Posted for Saturday Self-Challenge theme Black and White contrast. Walking on the beach at Seaham my husband stepped on this rock and it cracked under his foot...Rocks it seems are not as hard as you might think!

The Navajo name for Lower Antelope Canyon is Hasdeztwazi or "Spiral Rock Arches." Many years ago, herds of Pronghorn Antelope roamed freely in and around the canyon, which explains the English name. This incredible canyon has been created over many thousands of years by the relentless forces of water and wind, slowly carving and sculpting the sandstone into forms, textures, and shapes which we observe today. The views in Lower Antelope Canyon change constantly as the sun moves across the sky, filtering lights softly across the stone walls. These ever-moving sun angles bounce light back and forth across the narrow canyon's walls, creating a dazzling display of color, light, and shadow. Source: www.lowerantelope.com

Without a doubt, one of our favorite stops on our 11 day trek through the southwest...the only disappointing thing was the fact that it was overcast on this particular morning, so the light in the canyon was not as spectacular as it could have been. Even so, we were the first to arrive and had the canyon all to ourselves for the first hour or so...what a treat!!!!

Hope everyone is having a good week...back finally from my business trip so hopefully I can catch up with everyone soon....thanks for all your visits!!!!

Kakadu National Park is an enormous, biodiverse nature preserve in Australia’s Northern Territory. With terrain encompassing wetlands, rivers and sandstone escarpments, it’s home to some 2,000 plant species and wildlife from saltwater crocodiles and Flatback turtles to hundreds of bird species. Aboriginal rock-art paintings dating to prehistoric times can be viewed at sites such as Nourlangie, Nanguluwur and Ubirr.

Another example of my mother's green thumb! This beautiful flower is in the mallow family, I think, but has the wonderful name of rock rose. The vivid pink color of the blooms is stunning. The flower also has a nice texture.

The Tunnel Trekker is a small walker designed to work in tandem with a ground crew. It is armed with a mining laser to carve away slabs of rock for the crew to process, as well as an auto-cannon for fending off rock monsters.

The other night, I dug out a box of some of my darkroom prints from college. Many have deteriorated over time, so I thought it was time to try to preserve them digitally. My scanner won't scan these days, so these are photos of the prints captured as naturally as possible. I had to do some cropping, but they are basically as printed and mounted originally in the early 70's. Some don't have names so I'll just leave it as a file number.
