A short drive from Putaruru heading to Arapuni is this waterfall. A popular rest area for picnics.

Apparently extraterrestrials aren't allowed at this rest area.

This rest area is also a "Michigan Welcome Center". Ok... nothing strange there. Most states have them near their borders. The strange part is that this welcome center is practically in the middle of the state, which seems really odd to me.

Well, that and the fact that they don't allow ET's there.

I drove through past Butte the night before (hard core). It was downpour raining going over Homestake Pass, too. Nobody on the road except me and the trucks. Hard core, like I said.

Behind this door I could heard some sort of engine or machine or something. I walked up to the door to vote and lost my nerve. After I got up close I started thinking that if this voting mechanism really exists, then my understanding of the world around me was fundamentally flawed. Voting would be taunting some force that i don't understand. There is no way of knowing what might have been.

At restarea Trunkelsberg. Unfortunately when it is pretty like this, it means usually an awful weather the next day... / Auf dem Rastplatz Trunkelsberg. Leider wenn er gar so toll ist, bedeutet das meist Sauwetter am naechsten Tag.

There's a rest stop in Michigan that features benches buried in dense flower patches. What do you make of this? Landscaping lunacy? Bizarre art? People-eating plants?

Good thing those weren't loaded or I'd be toast. LOL

Curious little tree growing out of a rock...apparently been there since the 1800's.

We stopped here on our way to Burning Man in 2004, and decided to stop again this time.

I think this is a rest area in Montana... I'm not sure. Might be near George, WA... Should've kept a notebook on this trip!

We were so excited about this!! I saw the sign "Rest Area" and opened the door...and voila!!!....there's an actual bed and chair for those whose legs are tired from walking around the museum! it's genius! but sadly, this won't work in New York. (The National Museum/Reykjavik, IC)

At Mile Marker 48 lies the Will Rogers Turnpike's only service area. The 29,135 square foot building is built over the highway and houses two restaurants, a gift shop, and restrooms free of charge to all turnpike patrons. Here featured is the interior looking to the eastbound entrance. The facility was remodeled back in 2014, so everything looked brand new in 2015 when I took this photo.
