I would be one nervous wreck to have a Camaro this nice on a car hauler. They may have a great safety record but I am still entitled to worry.

For any kind of petrolhead, the service areas are without doubt the most amazing thing about taking the expressways in Japan. Whether it was bikes, classic Japanese sportscars, supercars, or even American lowriders, it seemed as if there was always one kind of enthusiast group or another spending part of their Saturday or Sunday taking a coffee break and congregating in a service area before returning to the highway and enjoying their passions together.

This Ferrari F430 owner was really smiling when I told my friend Shogo how cool the number plate was. Taken somewhere in Shizuoka-ken between Hamamatsu-shi and Fujisan on the Tomei Expressway. October 28, 2007.

My wife and I stopped at the Interstate 40 NC Welcome Center on our way home from Tennessee. It had been raining but stopped long enough for me to take a few pictures. The I-40 rest area/visitor's center is very scenic.

I stopped at a rest area just as the sun was going up and a trucking couple was there with this rig, hauling jet engines. Their company specializes it getting jet engines to airports quickly so that the planes can keep flying.

We stopped at a rest area on I-40 just a little ways east of Flagstaff, AZ which had formations like this scattered all around.

As opposed to impure Michigan? Tainted michigan? Michigan rendered ritually unclean by interaction with other states? Wasn't made clear.

Since money was an issue on my road trip, I'd decided to spend most of my nights sleeping in my car instead of hotels. I cleared out half of my trunk, folded down the seats, and laid down with my pillow. It was uncomfortable, but not as uncomfortable as I had expected it would be?

In the morning, I headed into Grand Rapids to visit their art museum and Goodwill Outlet (where I bought a fluffy thing to make the back of my car a bit less uncomfortable). I also tried to set up a photoshoot, which was unsuccessful in that super annoying way that it seemed like it might happen all day and prevented me from leaving Grand Rapids until like 9pm when otherwise I'd have been out of there around noon. Blah.

Also, it was super rainy for a lot of the day, so more blah.

Overall, least fun day of the trip. I did, however, score a crappy film camera and some crappy film and had some fun taking pictures with that during the bits where it wasn't raining.

I'm guessing this is a new bench at the North Carolina welcome center along I-85 north (towards Charlotte). I don't recall it being there the last time I was there. HBM!
