Free, public wifi will soon be installed at select rest areas across the province. With the addition of wifi in rest areas, travellers, tourist and the commercial truck industry will be able to take a rest, stretch their legs, and check DriveBC.ca - safely - before getting back on to the road.

"Recycled Roadrunner" is a piece of art created by Olin Calk. It is made of items salvaged from a landfill, and is located at a Rest Area along I-10 west of town.

On our way back home, my wife and I stopped at the North Carolina, Interstate 95 Visitor's Center in Pleasant Hill.

Eastbound rest area on US Route 30 near Upper Sandusky, Ohio. This one appears to have been built in the early 2000s.

This is US Route 30 between Bucyrus and Beaverdam, Ohio. This is a divided highway with both interchanges and ground-level intersections. I am sure there is a technical name for this type of road, but I just call them "Hybrid Highways" since they have many design features of Interstate highways (like wide shoulders, interchanges, no signals / stop signs, and higher 65 or 70 mph speed limits) while also having features of other rural roads (such as lower traffic roads intersecting and the road being open to slow moving traffic prohibited from interstates).

I personally like this type of road, but they seem to be the most common in the northwestern part of Ohio. US 30 is built as this type of road from the Indiana border to Canton. There were once plans to continue US 30 from Canton to East Liverpool in a similar fashion, but those plans never materialized.

On my way to the Felting Guild Meeting in Vermont, I stopped at the Sharon, Vermont rest stop. I'd never been to a rest area where there's colorful Adirondack Chairs set out for visitors to look at the lovely mountain view.

Something I haven't experienced for a decade, getting out in a snowstorm. Cold!

One of the more unusual highway rest stops I have encountered in my travels. This one is on Interstate 10 just west of Sierra Blanca, Texas.

The Custer rest area is located along the I-5 corridor (southbound milepost 269 and northbound milepost 267) and provides travelers to and from Canada a convenient rest stop along this busy route. Until further notice this rest area is temporarily closed.

Dead and dying trees were assessed by an arborist at the Custer Rest Area and maintenance crews got to work pruing back dead branches and removing hazardous trees. Until further notice, the northbound and southbound Custer Rest Area along I-5 will be closed to all travelers.

Maintenance crews removed several sections of hazardous sidewalks and will replace them to improve safety for travelers. This work is important to keep everyone safe when they stop at this rest area. We expect to have it back open around Memorial Day.

This questionable capture was produced in the men's room at the Tie Fork Rest Area on US 6 in Utah. That rest area replaces the former one at Tucker, which was buried under 30 feet (9 m) of dirt when US 6 was re-aligned at Tucker in 2009. Tie Fork Rest Area is about 8 miles (12 km) west-northwest of Soldier Summit.

This sink has motion-activated faucets, which I hate.
