Scent is processed through two parallel, independent pathways in many mammals. Ordinary odors are detected in the main olfactory epithelium in the nose, which sends signals to the main olfactory bulb in the brain, while pheremones are detected in the vomeronasal organ, which sends signals to the accessory olfactory bulb. To draw air into the vomeronasal organ, an animal may open its mouth and draw back its lips while sniffing deeply -- the flehmen response. You may have noticed your domestic kitty giving this sort of grimace when investigating a particularly interesting odor. Here it is seen here in a male leopard that had been investigating a scent marking in the grass below.

This is my response to the challenge given to me by the twirl-tastic Ruthlesscrab for Round 13 of the Get Pushed group.
Ruth's challenge to me was as follows:
So that's my challenge to you, if you choose to accept it. A fabulously scrumptious, beautifully lit food (solid food, not just a beverage) image that involves something with at least three ingredients, on a plate or in a serving dish or cooking vessel, WITH at least one piece of cutlery in the shot. Natural light if possible. It should look delicious enough that people will want to lick their monitors.
So, this is probably not what Ruth was expecting, but while I cook nice tasty food it is rarely visually appealing and I needed an option that I could play around with without having to cook loads. For pure simplicity beans on toast wins, fact.
You may also be saying to yourselves "Well, there is clearly only two ingredients there; "Beans" and "Toast". But you have missed the most important ingredient, the thing that must always be added, and which can be seen in the background - the wonder and joy that is Lee and Perins Worcester Sauce.
Thanks for the fun push Ruth, I hope you don't mind the small liberty I have taken with the shot. I'm assuming you can all read this after being overcome with the urge to lick your monitors obviously!
Also slipping delicately into ODC "money can't buy", because if there is one thing that money can never seem to buy enough of, it's food to feed the whole world.

One of 8 Volvo V60 rapid response vehicles used by Staffordshire doctors urgent care LTD, I have only seen this one myself and am pleased I have finaly managed to photograph it.
Vehicle seen in Tamworth, Staffordshire.
This Land Rover is used by West Midlands Fire Service to respond quickly to small fires. It's quicker and cheaper than sending a full-sized tender. Seen at the International Fire Fighters Day event in Walsall town centre. Note also the man with a cone on his head.

This memorial was built to commemorate the First and Second World War as well as the Korean War.
A tomb of an unknown soldier now rests within the site as a reminder of the symbolic sacrifices that every Canadian Soldier made as they gave up their lives to fight for their country.

Norwegian tanks take part in a live-fire capabilities demonstration during Cold Response 14, a multinational and multilateral training exercise above the Arctic Circle that brings together more than 14,000 servicemembers from 15 different countries, to include approximately 1,200 NATO personnel, March 11. The Norwegian-led exercise involves maritime, land and air operations being conducted this month to rehearse high-intensity operations in unique winter conditions, showcasing the diplomatic relationships, strategic friendships, and commitment to global security interests of all participating nations. This elk appears to be bugling, but is actually 'lip curling'. Biologists call this behavior the flehmen response. It facilitates the transfer of pheromones and other scents into the vomeronasal organ located above the roof of the mouth via a duct which exits just behind the front teeth. Bull elk use this technique to determine if a cow is in estrus. Deer and other ungulates also lip curl. Boxley Valley, AR.
