The Flehmen response (also called the Flehmen position, Flehmen reaction, flehming, or flehmening) is a behaviour whereby an animal curls back its upper lip exposing its front teeth, inhales with the nostrils usually closed and then often holds this position for several seconds.

It may be performed over a site or a substance of particular interest to the animal (e.g. urine or faeces) or may be performed with the neck stretched and the head held high in the air.

Flehmen is performed by a wide range of mammals including ungulates and felids.

The behaviour facilitates the transfer of pheromones and other scents into the vomeronasal organ located above the roof of the mouth via a duct which exits just behind the front teeth of the animal. ( Source: Wikipedia )

I used to believe in so many things. I don't so much any more. You cannot rely on people for the most part. Everyone wants to share their opinion with you now and tell you that you are wrong. I truly believe that social media has killed us. We say things to people online that we would not say to them in person.

No respect.

A male lion (panthera leo) exhibiting the Flehmen response. Whilst this may look like a threatening baring of teeth, the purpose of this action is to draw the scent of other lion's urine into the Jacobson's organ. This facilitates recognition of other pride members and/or a lioness in oestrous. Photographed in The Kalahari, in Botswana. A rogue wave surprises me at Tungeneset Beach in Senja, Norway. I keep my eye on them but they still manage to get my feet wet sometimes. Just three weeks ago, but it seems almost forever.

Just before capturing this shot, the ocean was violently pounding the rocky outcrop with wave after wave. And, a few birds were flying about looking for a place too perch. When the waves suddenly subsided and colors began to appear, one bird found an ideal place to roost. Its response to what had been otherwise violent was quite measured. Now peering out at the ocean and it's less harsh nature, the birds demeanour appeared more calm toward the nature of its surroundings.

"The flehmen response is an animal behavior in which the animal curls back the upper lip. This exposes the front teeth and gums of the animal. This is actually a means through which the pheromones and certain scents are transferred into the vomeronasal organ."

While moving through the countryside, I put my zoom out the window and shot the trees flying by me. (I will add at this point that I was NOT driving) I then added some colour in Lightroom by way of the gradient filter. I am not much of a Photoshop person.

A strange name for a terrace (town house) on Markyate's High Street. Behind the Georgian facade you would find walls going back to the mid-17th century. The gate does also tell you that small coaches or at least horses could be accommodated in the backyard. Before the railway arrived, almost all the houses in the village were in some way or another related to the support for travellers on their way between London and the Midlands.

During Swift Response 2023 exercise I was able to attend some practices at Bardenas Reales shooting range in Spain by USAF A10s. No real fire (not even BRRRRRRRT, because of the ammunition) but great flying demos, some of them for the media. A great day!

2Excel Aviation operates two Boeing 727s on behalf of Oil Spill Response, the largest international, industry-funded conglomerate, that will leap into action should an oil spill occur anywhere in the world.

For many, the presence of the OSR 727 in the flying display programme at the 2016 Farnborough International Airshow was an absolute highlight, and, with Dan Griffith at the controls in the left-hand seat, it was not hard to see why!

This shot shows a water drop utilising the aeroplane's spray system as the yoke is pulled back and the wingtips cut through the air.

This particular aeroplane was the last 727 built and was previously N217FE with Federal Express.

Dehors, du soleil.

Ce n'est qu'un soleil

mais les hommes le regardent

et ensuite ils chantent.

Je ne sais rien du soleil .

Je sais la mélodie de l'ange

et le sermon brûlant

du dernier vent.

Je sais crier jusqu'à l'aube

quand la mort se pose nue

sur mon ombre.

Je pleure sous mon nom.

J'agite des mouchoirs dans la nuit

et des bateaux assoiffés de réalité

dansent avec moi.

Je cache des clous

pour maltraiter mes rêves malades.

Dehors, du soleil.

Je m'habille de cendres.

In 1904, Blessed André Bessette, CSC, began the construction of a small chapel on the side of the mountain near Notre Dame College. Soon the growing number of visitors made it too small. Even though it was enlarged, a larger church was needed and in 1917 one was completed - it is called the Crypt, and has a seating capacity of 1,000. In 1924, the construction of the basilica was inaugurated; it was finally completed in 1967. The Oratory's dome is the third-largest of its kind in the world after the Basilica of Our Lady of Peace of Yamoussoukro in the Ivory Coast and Saint Peter's Basilica in Rome, and the church is the largest in Canada.

The basilica is dedicated to Saint Joseph, to whom Brother André credited all his reported miracles. These were mostly related to some kind of healing power, and many pilgrims (handicapped, blind, ill, etc.) poured into his Basilica, including numerous Protestants. On display in the basilica is a wall covered with thousands of crutches from those who came to the basilica and were healed. Pope John Paul II deemed the miracles to be authentic and beatified Brother André in 1982.

A reliquary in the church museum contains Brother André's heart, which he requested as a protection for the basilica. More than 2 million visitors and pilgrims visit the Oratory every year. It is located at 3800 Queen Mary Road, at Côte-des-Neiges (near to Côte-des-Neiges metro station).

[edit] Modern developments

On October 19, 2004, the Oratory held its centennial. All the bells of all the churches on the island of Montreal were supposed to ring at 9:00 a.m., though not all churches participated. At 9:05 a.m., the basilica rang its bell in response and celebration.

In 2005, the Oratory was added to the List of National Historic Sites of Canada on the occasion of its 100th anniversary.[1]

The delince of the small Montana village of Comertown, founded in 1913, began over 100 years ago, not that it was ever much beyond a few buildings and a post office.

The railroad coming through attracted homesteaders and farmers hoping to take advantage of the locality. But the land proved to be too dry for much more than ranching.

Residents began moving away almost immediately. The post office closed in 1957. Today, one or two of the houses are occupied.

The cemetery rests upon the hill beyond town.

G-OSRA Boeing B727-2S2F(A)(RE) 2Excel Aviation Oil Spill Response flypast with the blades RAF Fairford (Royal International Air Tattoo) 15th July 2022

I've been visiting Gabriola Island since March 2005 once or twice a year and wait in Nanaimo Harbour for the local ferry to Gabriola. In all that time, I have never seen this type of vessel in the Nanaimo Harbour. As we waited in the harbour for the ferry to depart, I noticed these ocean-going tugs were actually "Spill Response" vessels.

Had no idea why they were there until we sailed out of the harbour and into the Salish Sea on route to Gabriola Island. Have a look at the "Pacific Basin" image.

Not sure where the conversation was going here... but the expression was worth capturing.

I am a pro user. I pay the fee because I can and want to. Some cant. I understand you cant run a business without some funds..however this choice has long term ramifications for those who are part of a community that work and share together. If they go to another platform Then I will follow right along and I'm fairly sure others in my thinking and stance will too. I stand right along side the creators who use this as a form to show off skills work and imagination.
