Deacon Brodie's tavern occupies a prime location on the corner between Lawnmarket,part of the Royal Mile and Bank Street one of the main thoroughfare up from Price Street.It is named after Deacon William Brodie,the main who inspired Robert Louis Strvensons navel The Strange Case of Dr Jekell and Mr.Hyde.
Deacon William Brodie (1741-1788) was a respected cabinet-maker and a member of the Town Council,and Deacon (head) of the Incorporation of Wright and Masons.But Deacon William Brodie line a double life,developing an exensive lifestyle including mistresses and gambling that could only support through a secret life of crime.
As a respected craftsman,part of Deacon William Brodies' day job involed manufacturing and repairing locks.It became his practice to take copies of all keys involed so that he could return some time later with accomplics as part of his night job.
Deacon William Brodie's downfall followed an armed raid on His Majesty's Excise Office on Edinburgh's Canongate.One of the gang was caught red handed although Deacon William Brodie escaped to the Netherlans he was arrested in Amsterdam,Netherlands and returned to Scotland for trail.Deacon William Brodie was founded guilty after a seach of his home revealed his stock of duplicate keys and he was sentenced to hang at Edinburgh's Tolbooth Prison on October 1,1788.Deacom William Brodie Brodie brided the hangman to ignors a steel collar Deacon William Brodie was wearing,designed to keep him alive for long enqugh to be revived after the hanging.It failed,however,and both of Deacon William Brodie's double life were over.
Deacon Brodie's Tavern has two floors the bar downstairs and restaurant uptairs.A full menu is offered in the restaurant,with bar food available downstairs.There is a good selection of well kept real ales on offer,as well as a huge choice of single malt Scotch Whiskies.
The pub is welcoming and the interior attractive,with an especially striking ceiling majoring on thistles and red rose motifs.The locations ensures that this is a very popular pub with tourists passing along the Royal Mile,but it also attracts it fair share of local office workers and residents.

Mike Bollin and children Anne and John in field.
Court hearing for the eviction of Mike and Kathy Bollin, Keokuk, Iowa, June 2, 1986. The issue to be decided was whether Mike and Kathy Bollin and their children, Anne, Becky, Maxine and John, had the legal right to remain on their farm following foreclosure but prior to the end of the redemption year. The Federal Land Bank maintained they did not; the Bollins asked that they be allowed to stay. Because Kathy and Mike wanted others to know what was happening to farmers such as themselves they opened up their lives that day giving me the gift of their friendship. I hope these photographs respect that friendship by telling the truth of what was to be the start of a future. The Bollins lost the hearing, but have been able to stay on their farm at least for the time being.

Located adjacent the first Lobethal Institute Hall of 1898.
The Lobethal Centennial Hall foundation stone was laid on 8 August in 1936 on the centenary of the proclamation of the state of South Australia. About 600 people were present to witness the beginning of a new hall to replace the old Institute.
Mr C Meyer, one of the district's oldest and highly respected citizens laid the stone. Mr Meyer had been a member of the Institute Committee since 1894. He was one of the first trustees and a life member.
Local people bought seats for £1 each, to help furnish the hall built in the Art Deco style. Their names are still on the back of the seats.
The hall is also the site of film screenings.
The architect was Chris Smith of Adelaide.
Contractors: Messrs Newman & O'Malley of Lobethal.
Estimated cost of construction £3,165.
ORIGINAL LOBETHAL INSTITUTE
The foundation stone of the Lobethal Institute was laid on 19 March 1898 by Dr Esau, of Woodside, in the presence of about 400 people. Dr Esau was the recipient of a silver trowel, given by the committee. The stone was presented by Mr F W Habich, of Tanunda. [Ref: Adelaide Observer 26-3-1898]
The present contract was only for the hall, stage, and rear ante-rooms, but the contractors had given a price for the whole building, including the front, and it was certain they would never get it done cheaper.
Architect: A H Lowry of Woodside. Contractors: Kumnick, Kroger and Pingel of Lobethal.
The dimensions are 42 ft frontage by depth of 76 ft. The building will consist of a front block containing a reading-room and library, each 15 ft by 13 ft, and a lobby 7ft wide. The main hall leading of the lobby is to be 127 ft, and the stage 16 ft deep, having a platform 2 ft 2 in high.
The material is Lobethal bluestone with red brick dressings. Provision has been made at the back of the building for future extensions. [Ref: Advertiser 22-3-1898]
The Lobethal Institute building was formally opened 26 August 1898. At the conclusion of the ceremony a luncheon was held, followed by a tea at 3 o’clock.. In the evening an entertainment was held by the Woodside Minstrels, and a ball terminated the day.
Institute Rooms
The Lobethal Institute committee held a successful bazaar on Friday and Saturday in aid of the building fund. Mr R Homburg MP performed the opening ceremony of the new additions (two rooms) to the front of the building. [Ref: Advertiser 26-11-1903]
Lobethal Institute History and Advance
Lobethal is certainly beginning to rank amongst the go-ahead country townships, and the latest improvement is the starting of the building of a banqueting hall at the rear of the institute. If the pioneers of the movement were to return they would find the institute now beyond their original dreams. In 1885 a few of the local townsmen held a meeting, with a view to starting a library.
A small brick building was hired and a few books purchased. This was carried on for a number of years until it was thought advisable to have a hall for amusements.
In 1898 the foundation stone was laid by the late Dr Esau, and in the same year the institute was opened.
Movements have been working during the past three years to raise funds to build a banqueting hall, and a strong ladies' committee - Mrs. W. R. Redpath (president) – have worked well and by their efforts £170 has been raised towards the outlay.
Mrs Redpath laid the foundation stone of the banqueting hall. It is hoped it will open in February. [Ref: Mount Barker Courier and Onkaparinga and Gumeracha Advertiser 28-22-1913]
The township name of Lobethal was changed to Tweedvale during World War One as a consequence of anti-German prejudice. The town name later reverted to Lobethal.
A city that has a history over 750 years!
Lviv was founded in 1256 by Prince Daniel Romanovich of Galicia, who named it for his son Leo (Lev in Ukrainian). The Poles seized the town in 1349 and held it for hundreds of years. Twice it was captured and held for short periods—by Cossack rebels in 1648 and by Sweden in 1704. It was given to Austria on the first partition of Poland in 1772.
The Jesuits came to L'viv at the end of the 16th century and in 1608 they opened their secondary school (Collegium) here.
The Philosophy Department was mostly concerned with Aristotle's philosophy which combined Logic, Physics and Metaphysics. Physics covered some elements of Mathematics, Astronomy, Biology, Meteorology; Metaphysics included problems of Psychology and Ethics. History, Geography, Ancient Greek. At the Philosophy Department the teaching course lasted for up to three years. The graduates of the department proceeded with their education within the realm of Theology. At the Theology Department the course lasted four years. The students were taught Church History, Old and New Testaments, Dogmatics, Church Law, Casuistry, Hebrew.

This is a photograph from the finish of the Tullamore Harriers AC "Quinlan Cup" Half Marathon which was held on Saturday 26th August 2017 in Tullamore, Co. Offaly, Ireland at 11:00. This is the fifth year of the event. The race is organised and promoted by Tullamore Harriers AC. The race starts on the Charleville Road just outside the entrance to Tullamore Harriers. The race proceeds south along the R421 and onto the N52 before taking a route onto local back roads. The race then completes a large rural road route before it joins to the R421 again and the final 1.5 miles are the same as the first mile of the race. The runners enter Tullamore stadium and complete one lap of the tartan track before the finish line. The course is challenging in places with some undulations along the route. But overall it is fair course. 2013 seen the first year of the event as the club commemorated the 60th Anniversary of the formation of Tullamore Harriers AC which today is one of Ireland's best known athletics clubs.

The race was perfectly organised. The weather was good for racing but there was warm summer weather for the entire race which made for warmer than usual running conditions There were stewarts all along the route, 3 drink stations with bottled water, superb facilities, and great after-race refreshments. The stewards along the route provided great encouragement to all of the runners. Tullamore Harriers and the local community really worked together to make this is a wonderful event. There was also a relay option where teams of two can run approximately 10.5km each.
As mentioned above this race half marathon started in 2013 and celebrated the 60th Anniversary (a Diamond Anniversary) of the foundation of Tullamore Harriers AC. The club was formed in the town in November 1953. However, it was almost 1979 before facilities close to what we see today open in the present day site. Over 50 provincial and national athletics meetings are held at Tullamore Harriers every year. The facilities available combined with it's central geographical location joining routes from North, South, East, and West make it a very attractive venue. The half marathon today firmly brings competitive national road racing back to "The Harriers". The Quinlan Cup which will be awarded to the winning club team. For more than 40 years the Harriers Quinlan Cup was the most prestigious event on the road racing calendar. Having started as a cross-country race back in 1957, it became a road race in 1967 and remained so until 2000 when the race was last held. During its reign as a blue-ribband event the Quinlan Cup was won by the likes of John Treacy and Eamonn Coughlan.
Today, the facilities at Tullamore Harriers are the envy of many athletics clubs in Ireland. The facilities provided by Tullamore make it one of the premier venues for local and national level athletics in Ireland. There is an Olympic standard tartan track, a fully equipped gym, changing facilities, press and media facilities, meeting room spaces, etc. The club also provides a social center and niteclub which makes "The Harriers" a very well known on the local social scene. Esssentially, the town of Tullamore would be a different place if it weren't for the presence of Tullamore Harriers AC.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. Dennis is my boss. And he fits the description - the students and staff respect him. He is the kind of guy you like working for. He is understanding but can put the hammer down when he needs to! He is a big guy, dresses well and doesn't mess around! But, he is also understanding. He was a teacher and understands how things work. He lets the staff do their thing and handle our business in the classroom. And he feels that is where we as a staff can be successful. And to me, that is paramount.
I first contacted Dennis back in the Spring of 2007. I was teaching at Holicong Middle School for Central Bucks School District. I got that job right out of college and life was good. But I just wasn't feeling the middle school vibe even though I enjoyed the staff at Holicong. So I found out that Hatboro-Horsham (HH) was hiring a Technology Education teacher at the High School. I really knew nothing about HH but figured I should inquire. So I called the contact person, who was Mr. Williams. Little did I know, he was the Principal! So I called him and we spoke for a few minutes and he sounded like a great guy and seemed very interested that I was interested in the job. He then gave me Lori Gallagher's name (you will see her soon!) Lori was the department head of the Family Consumer Science, Art and Technology Education department. So I gave her a call and she was great in describing the school, department, etc. Long story short, after a great interview, I got the job.
Leaving Holicong was not easy and honestly was one of the hardest career decisions I have ever made. But I have not regretted that decision and have loved every second of being here at HH. And Dennis is one of those reasons why.
Every school has it issues, hurdles and trying times. In today's education field, times have never been harder. Terrible decisions from the State and National level force schools into a corner in nearly every scenario. We have become a society solely dependent upon test scores. How did your school/student score in this test, in that test, etc. It's been somehow used to determine how good a school is these days. Which is a shame because testing has no real world value in society. Can you imagine coming out of college, going in for an interview and the interviewer going "so, back in the 11th grade, how did you test on your Keystone Science test?" Get out. It's meaningless. The employer will be asking you what type of real world experience you have in your field, what can you contribute to your staff/colleagues , how involved are you in extra-curricular activities, do you belong to any professional organizations, etc. We are forced to teach to the test. Not to the student. And that is a sad part of today's education. The decisions being passed down are short sighted. Tax payers want teachers and schools held accountable. And honestly, there is nothing wrong with that. But when you have to find a way to analyze a teacher/administrator and do it by test scores alone, there is a major flaw there.
Dennis is a great leader and someone who understands the hurdles we face going forward. He is the perfect guy to delegate when he needs to and be hands off when he needs to. You can't ask for much more than that!

React, Respect, Intersect was created by two professional artists and a team of youth artists as part of the Groundswell Community Mural Project’s flagship Summer Leadership Institute (SLI). SLI teams spend seven weeks during working with artists and community-based organizations, learning job skills and creating public art throughout New York City. This mural depicts a utopian environment where vehicular traffic, pedestrians of all ages and abilities, bicyclists, skateboarders, and animals respectfully share the street. It focuses not only on traffic and pedestrian safety education, but also site-specific themes and cultural diversity.
The safety education focus of this mural was informed by workshops lead by NYCDOT Safety Education. The artists and youth artists researched safety issues near the mural site which influenced their final design. Speed of vehicular traffic, high levels of carbon dioxide in the air, and the need for all modes of transportation to respectfully share the streets are just a few of the themes beautifully integrated in to this mural.

Meeting and hearing David Hobby was an incredible experience. He's taught me everything I know about light, really, and that's a huge part of photography to me. It's opened new doors to me. I truly admire and respect him.
I was gonna take a picture of the bus for the DVD contest that day, but my batteries were dead! D; How unprepared can I get!

You can download the photographic image here direct to your computer or device. This version is the low resolution web-quality image. How to download will vary slight from device to device and from browser to browser. However - look for a symbol with three dots 'ooo' or the link to 'View/Download' all sizes. When you click on either of these you will be presented with the option to download the image. Remember just doing a right-click and "save target as" will not work on Flickr.
I want get full resolution, print-quality, copies of these photographs?
If you just need these photographs for online usage then they can be used directly once you respect their Creative Commons license and provide a link back to our Flickr set if you use them. For offline usage and printing all of the photographs posted here on this Flickr set are available free, at no cost, at full image resolution.
Please email petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com with the links to the photographs you would like to obtain a full resolution copy of. We also ask race organisers, media, etc to ask for permission before use of our images for flyers, posters, etc. We reserve the right to refuse a request.
In summary please remember when requesting photographs from us - If you are using the photographs online all we ask is for you to provide a link back to our Flickr set or Flickr pages. You will find the link above clearly outlined in the description text which accompanies this photograph. Taking these photographs and preparing them for online posting does take a significant effort and time. We are not posting photographs to Flickr for commercial reasons. If you really like what we do please spread the link around your social media, send us an email, leave a comment beside the photographs, send us a Flickr email, etc. If you are using the photographs in newspapers or magazines we ask that you mention where the original photograph came from.
I would like to contribute something for your photograph(s)?
Many people offer payment for our photographs. As stated above we do not charge for these photographs. We take these photographs as our contribution to the running community in Ireland. If you feel that the photograph(s) you request are good enough that you would consider paying for their purchase from other photographic providers or in other circumstances we would suggest that you can provide a donation to any of the great charities in Ireland who do work for Cancer Care or Cancer Research in Ireland.

The explaination is very simple.
Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.
ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.
