I respect Margit deeply. An enduring optimist, she embodies the philosophies of “if you go with the flow all you need comes to you” and “don’t sweat the small stuff”. Her life and struggle with mental illness has been complex. A life which may have hardened others, refined Margit into the brave and loving woman she is.
She was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in her 30’s. Medication quickly stabilized her and kept episodes away for decades. Then in a profound twist of fate her husband was also diagnosed with bipolar disorder. He was highly symptomatic and impossible to reason with. In an effort to protect her daughter from a home of strife & arguing, Margit made the “world ending” decision to divorce her husband. Over time she began to drink to deal with her stress. Lead by her mental illness she also quit her job, not being able to give anyone an explanation for her decision. She began having severe hallucinations in her late 50’s and couldn’t recognize the loving family members’ she’d lived with since quitting her job. This led to a specialty mental health team, called the CAT Team, assessing her. She was hospitalized for a week and a half and put on new medications. She was successfully stabilized for a second time in her life after going through the trauma of hallucinations.
But at this point, the stress was too profound for her to return home. Margit’s mother cared full-time for her husband ailing from Alzheimer’s. This led to Margit’s homelessness and her journey from the CAT team assessment, to the hospital, to an organization called Tree House. Margit was then referred by a case worker to a residential women’s shelter in Orange County. She’s been waiting two years for a housing voucher (likely to a care-home) with her classic patience. Currently, she struggles with becoming disoriented in public and at home. And yet, Margit is one of the funniest & kindest people. She makes my life better with every interaction we have. She’s a true original and one of the slickest dry humorists I know. Her spirit lights up the shelter.
She has an enduring resilience and inner-stillness taught to her by the challenges of her life. She’s a Survivor and Joy-Giver.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Five metres at 10:57am on Tuesday 13th April 2021 off the Mall and Horse Guards Road within the grounds of St James's Park in Central London, one of the Royal parks of London situated in South West London.
Here we see a group of feral Pigeons (Columba Livia domestica), resting on a branch in a prime location close to the lake within the park grounds. It is a relative of a relative of Stock doves and Rock Doves which are the purest of the species.

Hayv Kahraman (1981- ) was born in Iraq. After the Persian Gulf War (1990-1991) her family became refugees in Sweden where she grew up. She pursued graphic design in Florence, Italy and currently lives California

Living on open fields we see a lot of wildlife but watching the hares is my favourite.

from our delicious dinner from Saturday evening. one of the things I try to think about the food we eat is to respect the source, the process and the end product that we get to sustain life and enjoy a great deal.
this picture is my tribute to the amazing food this little guy ended up being for my wife and myself.
If you don't live in Alabama, chances are you won't get this shot. But we may have severe (which means tornados to us) weather tonight and early tomorrow morning - and this is one of our local meteorologists. He is extremely proactive when it comes to severe weather. Some say over the top. Thanks to him, all our local TV stations will go to live weather broadcasting if a tornado warning is issued. Now, James Spann will start out with his suit coat on, but the longer and more severe the event, the jacket comes off (and he always wears suspenders). And, if he rolls up his sleeves, better take cover! May be dramatic but when we are looking at scary weather, he's the one I tune in to.

This was my first time shooting with the lovely Jessica. She is a photographer's dream; very photogenic, great to shoot with, creative, and she takes direction well. Jessica is also one of the most sought after and respected models in the Boise area. The only problem with shooting with Jessica is you end up with so many images and it's hard to narrow it down to the top 20 favorites (so I cheated and settled on 60).
We based the theme on the work of Robert Alvarado - one of my photography role models - he is the master of modern pin-up.
I took these photos at our studio in Star, Idaho in November 2015.
Found by chance, still on a branch.
It was sleeping, completely exposed, without defenses.
I stopped and took the shot in silence.
There was nothing to build, only to respect.

These survivors and their owner had covered 12,000 kilometres in about 4 years The road train covers this distance in about 10 days. Circa 1980 / Western Australia.

Human remains have been found which have been dated to about 50,000 BC although this is an estimate. These ancient inhabitants probably migrated from Southeast Asia, from people whose ancestors had originated in Africa 50,000 to 70,000 years ago. New Guinea was one of the first landmasses after Africa and Eurasia to be populated by modern humans, with the first migration at approximately the same time as that of Australia.
Agriculture was independently developed in the New Guinea highlands around 7000 BC, making it one of the few areas in the world where people independently domesticated plants. A major migration of Austronesian speaking peoples came to coastal regions roughly 500 BC. This has been correlated with the introduction of pottery, pigs, and certain fishing techniques. More recently, in the 18th century, the sweet potato was taken to New Guinea, having been introduced to the Moluccas from South America by Portuguese traders, representing the locally dominant colonial power.[12] The far higher crop yields from sweet potato gardens radically transformed traditional agriculture; sweet potato largely supplanted the previous staple, taro, and gave rise to a significant increase in population in the highlands.
Although headhunting and cannibalism have been practically eradicated, in the past they occurred in many parts of the country as part of ritual practices. For example, in 1901, on Goaribari Island in the Gulf of Papua, a missionary, Harry Dauncey, found 10,000 skulls in the island’s Long Houses. According to the writer Marianna Torgovnick, "The most fully documented instances of cannibalism as a social institution come from New Guinea, where head-hunting and ritual cannibalism survived, in certain isolated areas, into the fifties, sixties, and seventies, and still leave traces within certain social groups."
Little was known in the West about the island until the nineteenth century, although Portuguese and Spanish explorers, such as Dom Jorge de Meneses and Yñigo Ortiz de Retez, respectively, had encountered it as early as the sixteenth century. Traders from Southeast Asia had visited New Guinea as long as 5,000 years ago collecting bird of paradise plumes.The country's dual name results from its complex administrative history before independence. The word papua is derived from pepuah, a Malay word describing the curly, coiled, Melanesian hair, and "New Guinea" (Nueva Guinea) was the name coined by the Spanish explorer Yñigo Ortiz de Retez. In 1545 he noted the resemblance of the people to those he had earlier seen along the Guinea coast of Africa. The northern half of the country was ruled as a colony for some decades by Germany, beginning in 1884, as German New Guinea.
During World War I, the territory was occupied by Australia, which had begun administering British New Guinea, the southern part, renamed Papua in 1904. After World War I, Australia was given a mandate to administer the former German New Guinea by the League of Nations. Papua, by contrast, was deemed to be an External Territory of the Australian Commonwealth, though as a matter of law it remained a British possession. This was significant for the country's post-independence legal system. The difference in legal status meant that Papua and New Guinea had entirely separate administrations, both controlled by Australia.
The New Guinea campaign (1942–1945) was one of the major military campaigns of World War II. Approximately 216,000 Japanese, Australian and U.S. soldiers, sailors and airmen died during the New Guinea Campaign.[18] The two territories were combined into the Territory of Papua and New Guinea after World War II, which later was simply referred to as "Papua New Guinea".
However, certain statutes continued to have application only in one of the two territories. This territorial difference of law was complicated further by the adjustment of the former boundary among contiguous provinces with respect to road access and language groups. Some of such statutes apply on one side only of a boundary which no longer exists
The administration of Papua became open to United Nations oversight; a peaceful independence from Australia occurred on September 16, 1975, and close ties remain (Australia continues as the largest bilateral aid donor to Papua New Guinea). Papua New Guinea was admitted to membership in the United Nations on 10 October 1975.
A secessionist revolt in 1975–76 on Bougainville Island resulted in an eleventh-hour modification of the draft Constitution of Papua New Guinea to allow for Bougainville and the other eighteen districts to have quasi-federal status as provinces. A renewed uprising started in 1988 and claimed 20,000 lives until it was resolved in 1997. Following the revolt, the autonomous Bougainville elected Joseph Kabui as president. He was succeeded by his deputy John Tabinaman, who continued to be re-elected as leader until the election of December 2008, which James Tanis won.
Anti-Chinese rioting, involving tens of thousands of people, broke out in May 2009. The initial spark was a fight between Chinese and Papua New Guinean workers at a nickel factory under construction by a Chinese company. Native resentment against the numerous small businesses being run by Chinese led to the rioting

St. Andrew's Russian Orthodox Church, located in Episkopeio, Republic of Cyprus, has a rich and fascinating history that spans several decades. The foundation of St. Andrew's Russian Orthodox Church can be traced back to the early 1990s when an influx of Russian immigrants began arriving in Cyprus. Many of these immigrants were Orthodox Christians who sought to establish a place of worship that would cater to their spiritual needs and cultural traditions. Recognizing the importance of providing a religious sanctuary for this growing community, plans were set in motion to establish a Russian Orthodox Church in Episkopeio.
In 1995, with the support of the local Russian Orthodox community, construction of St. Andrew's Russian Orthodox Church commenced. The church was designed in the traditional Russian Orthodox architectural style, featuring ornate domes and intricate interior decorations. It quickly became a focal point for the Russian community in Cyprus, providing a space for worship, community gatherings, and cultural events.
On October 10, 1999, St. Andrew's Russian Orthodox Church was officially consecrated and opened to the public. The consecration ceremony was presided over by His Eminence Archbishop Chrysostomos II, the Primate of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Cyprus, and His Eminence Archbishop Mark of Yegoryevsk, the head of the Moscow Patriarchate's Administration for Institutions Abroad.
With its doors open, St. Andrew's Russian Orthodox Church began serving the spiritual needs of the Russian Orthodox community in Episkopeio and the surrounding areas. Regular divine services were conducted, including the celebration of the Divine Liturgy and various sacraments. The church also established a Sunday school, offering religious education for children and young adults.
Over the years, St. Andrew's Russian Orthodox Church expanded its activities beyond the realm of worship. Recognizing the importance of fostering a sense of community and providing assistance to those in need, the church initiated various social and charitable programs. In 2013, St. Andrew's Russian Orthodox Church celebrated its 15th anniversary. The occasion was marked with a series of events, including religious services, cultural performances, and a gala dinner. The celebration not only commemorated the church's achievements but also highlighted its ongoing commitment to serving the spiritual and cultural needs of the Russian Orthodox community in Cyprus.
Today, St. Andrew's Russian Orthodox Church continues to thrive as a vibrant spiritual and cultural center. It remains an important institution for the Russian Orthodox community in Episkopeio and serves as a bridge between Cyprus and Russia, fostering cultural exchange and understanding. The church's dedication to religious worship, community outreach, and interfaith dialogue ensures that it will continue to play a vital role in the spiritual and social fabric of the Republic of Cyprus for years to come.
