The great thing about the epic landscape is that it presents an entirely different universe from season to season, from day to day, from hour to hour, from second to second, with the ever changing wind, tides, clouds, and sun. A split second with tumbling surf and a sinking sun can make a vast different, resulting in entirely different photographs.

Edward Penfield (1866-1925) was an influential American poster artist, considered as the father of the American poster movement. He was employed as an art editor for Harper’s Weekly, Monthly, and Harper’s Bazaar, where he made posters advertising each issue of the magazine for over seven years. His art was avant-garde with less concern for the dramatic curving lines of Art Nouveau, inspired by Japanese ukiyo-e block prints, figure drawings by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, color lithographies by Jules Chéret, and other contemporary artists. He created simplified scenes of daily life in saturated colors, including horses, cats, sports, and women’s fashion. We have digitally enhanced some of his artworks. They are free to download under the CC0 license.

with the time change making sunset an hour later, and the weather getting too hot, and just plain ugly summer weather, the coming months are just not good for beach photography.

Today the Hereios of the We’re Here! Group are focusing on New Year Resolutions. Here are clues to mine. I'm intent on becoming much better at Italian and on revisiting the country (Sicily this time). Other travel plans include a trip to Canada (though it'll be Toronto rather than Montreal or Quebec), and another visit to New York City. And I will work on my golf with the aim of getting my handicap index down from 27.7 to 20. And, almost needless to say, take at least one photo every day.

It's a bit too late for my 2023 plans, but I just heard about a couple who have chosen 23 things to do 23 times during the year (they began with 18 things in 2018); these include journeys on buses numbered 1 to 23. Could be fun.

If you've read all the way to this point, Happy New Year!

"I've become impossible

holding on to when everything seemed to matter more

the two of us.

All used and beaten up

watching fate as it flows down the path we have chosen.

You and me.

We're in this together now.

None of them can stop us now.

We will make it through somehow -

you and me.

If the world should break in two.

Until the very end of me -

until the very end of you"

Eva would always look out for him and hopefully keep him from getting so tied up in trouble that he wouldn't manage to get out again.

He probably never quite understood that it was him, Neo, who had managed to introduce her to those who got her out of her trouble, who managed to show her what freedom actually was all about. Freedom had never been a word that lingered in her mind, her heart and her understanding. Now she understood what it tasted like. Blood Magic had nothing to do with freedom. "I will find other ways. I will value freedom.", she heard herself whisper to those men in her life who really did make a difference.

Born in London, Paul Nash (1889–1946) grew up in Buckinghamshire before enrolling at the Slade School of Fine Art. During his studies, he honed his skills in landscape painting drawing inspiration from ancient and historic landscapes. He was appointed England's official war artist during both World Wars. After the wars, Nash continued to paint landscapes but had shifted from a formalized style to a more abstract and surreal style. He often incorporated everyday objects into his landscape artworks to give them a new identity and symbolic meaning. Nash was also a contributing member of Unit One, a group of British artists who wanted to promote avant-garde art in England. We've curated some of his finest public domain artworks in this collection for you to enjoy and download under the CC0 license.
