Pay me what exactly? If Fiat paper currency did not exist you would have to invent it. So the Chief Cashier, on behalf of the Governor and the Company of the Bank of England promises to pay me on demand the sum of £20... well that's nice.
I recently made some predictions for 2017 but neglected to make any resolutions. Well, here goes. If 2016 was the year of the underdog and surprises I can do something to make 2017 the year of the 'little guy'.
- I can limit the money that goes to credit card providers.
- I can favour family businesses wherever possible.
- I can eschew corporate foodservice providers.
- I can choose to patronize smaller retailers.
- I can steer clear of online retailers.
- I can buy on the high street.
- I can choose to pay cash.
If we don't shop on the high street, then we can't be surprised if it closes down or mutates to survive. I can and will choose to do these things in 2017.

My new years resolution is to broaden my photographic repetoire, so I'm taking on weekly 'assignments'. This week it's night shots so here is my first attempt :-)
Rangiatea Church in Otaki was originally built in 1851 under the leadership of Chief Te Rauparaha and the Anglican missionary Octavius Hadfield. Destroyed by fire in 1995, at that time the oldest Maori Church in New Zealand, Rangiatea has indeed "risen from the ashes to stand once again in all its glory, a symbol of faith and cooperation".

Winds shriek down the narrow lane,
mist covers many a window pane,
holding smears and dust at bay,

This is the final photo of the triptych, but I am sharing it with you first so you can see the series as it is intended. I shot it with the help of my partner, in a cotton field growing on top of a hill. I decided to use stick on pearls as a way of attempting to camouflage into my surroundings, this is very similar to the way people with autism may camouflage in social situations- this is called Masking.

I hope that this mini series can introduce a new idea into your mental dictionary, starting a discussion on something that affects me and I'm sure many others, without it getting much mainstream attention.

This photo acts as the resolution in this three part narrative, where the character (being me in the frame) has found peace with their masking. When you come through the beginning and the conflict stages (which will be shared in photo form soon) and you can feel contentment in yourself. Even though I'm not perfectly blended into the surroundings, it's ok! Because my uniqueness is what makes me shine! It's ok to not fit in, it's ok to try to fit in as well, as certain situations are best handled through masking.

The hubby decided he wanted musicians in the house. He surprised me by buying a new guitar he has been talking about for a few months. I know he is excited to learn and play but even more so to have our boys get involved in music, starting now. Lessons for Dad start soon...
This bike has been sitting behind the shop of where I work for probably two years. Before that it roamed around the nursery unclaimed. Now left to rot away and all but forgotten, it lays here. No one claims it and no one knows who it belongs to. At one time, I'm sure, there were good intentions for using it. Like every new year, we make resolutions to better ourselves. We buy into the next fad, the next craze or even into our own delusions. That is, what I imagine happened here and now that those intentions are gone, the bike has now been discarded like some Christmas puppy.

A cloud is a visible mass of liquid droplets or frozen crystals made of water or various chemicals suspended in the atmosphere above the surface of a planetary body. These suspended particles are also known as aerosols. Clouds in Earth's atmosphere are studied in the cloud physics branch of meteorology. Two processes, possibly acting together, can lead to air becoming saturated; cooling the air or adding water vapor to the air. In general, precipitation will fall to the surface; an exception is virga, which evaporates before reaching the surface.
The international cloud classification system is based on the fact clouds can show free-convective upward growth like cumulus, appear in non-convective layered sheets such as stratus, or take the form of thin fibrous wisps, as in the case of cirrus. Prefixes are used in connection with clouds: strato- for low clouds with limited convection that form mostly in layers, nimbo- for thick layered clouds that can produce moderate to heavy precipitation, alto- for middle clouds, and cirro- for high clouds.
While a majority of clouds form in Earth's troposphere, there are occasions when clouds in the stratosphere and mesosphere can be observed. These three main layers of the atmosphere where clouds may be seen are collectively known as the homosphere. Above this lies the thermosphere and exosphere, which together make up the heterosphere that marks the transition to outer space. Clouds have been observed on other planets and moons within the Solar System, but, due to their different temperature characteristics, they are composed of other substances such as methane, ammonia, and sulfuric acid.

realistically, i know i probably will not follow through with my resolutions. so, i will just make one: to better myself. correct me if i'm wrong, but aren't most new years resolutions pertaining to this very goal?

Flattery appreciates a good time, all the time, and I think her resolutions reflect that. Of all the dogs we've lived with, hands down, she is the most mischievous and keeps us on our toes even when we sleep. If I'm honest, though, I secretly love this about her, even though sometimes she drives me crazy. Along with her penchant for mischief, she has a huge heart and she is also one of the most affectionate Greyhounds I've ever known.

There was not much by way of science rationale for acquiring this footprint (outside of wanting to have coverage at HiRISE resolution of this massive, 150 km × 125 km (93 mi × 78 mi) diameter crater), but possible clays may have been detected on the southeast rim. And the view is spectacular!

My favourite railway photographic location in France, and one of the luckiest photos I've ever taken
The Viaduc de Rouzat is on the line from Gannat (north of Clermont Ferrand) to Commentary (near Montlucon) where it crosses the River Sioule. Built in 1869 the viaduct is 162m long and 58.9m high
The line to the left of this position curves round the hillside on a ledge before disappearing into a tunnel. I was scouting out the area ready for an early morning visit and had only been here less than 5 minutes when this freight appeared out of the tunnel. I had the wrong lens on the camera and was still changing to the wide angle as the train rumbled onto the viaduct. I had just enough time to check the exposure, focus and press the shutter release as the BB-67400 with a CC-72000 being towed on the rear got to the right point
As I can't load the video of this dress in motion due to file size I will have to demonstrate it this way.
Just a simple left right motion makes this dress move so wonderfully. Ive got 2inch heels on under here and the hem only just skims the ground. its so nice to get a proper long dress.

Shot with a Sigma Art 18-35mm F 1.8 zoom lens, F 5.6 @27mm, on a Nikon F4 film SLR.
This zoom lens was developed for digital APS-C sensors but in the 28-35mm covers full frame as well.
At 35mm it has a bit too much of distortion but it's still usable.
At 28mm it's optimal.
Sharpness is extremely high, in the same league of the best full frame primes.
Lack of digital sensor glass is not a problem even wide open, probably thanks to a very large nodal point to sensor distance.
Fuji Velvia 100 slide film can really deliver, if exposed properly.
This particular film was developed 2 years after exposure but still retained very good qualities.
Scanned with a macro setup:
- Rodenstock APO Rodagon 75mm F 4 repro lens @F6.7;
- 1.5:1 magnification ratio;
Equivalent 6000dpi optical resolution.
Resized to 24Mpxls.
Colors and contrast as shot, no PP.
