resolution: climbing up more mountains instead of going by cablecars

I've decided to make it a resolution this year to do more w/Photography. Granted, I'm not as talented as so many of you flickrites, but you do give me inspiration - and whether it be just learning as much as I can (which you all help me with) or making books for others or getting a website started (working on!).... I do love all that is Photography.

The great thing about the beach is that it presents an entirely different universe from season to season, from day to day, from hour to hour, from second to second, with the ever changing wind, tides, clouds, and sun. A split second with tumbling surf and a sinking sun can make a vast different, resulting in entirely different photographs.

In 2012 life will throw a million things at me. I will follow my heart because it is my light and may it stay grounded and tied by the 4 Ropes - My Husband Matt, My Son Aiden, my son Madden, and my morals that my parents have taught me.

Training wildlife rangers to use UAV's as an extra tool to help herd problem crop raiding elephants out of and away from farms and settled areas.

So in 2011, I tried to complete a 365 photo a day challenge. At around day 150, I just gave up as I was tiring and wasn't enjoying it anymore! So in 2012, I am going to complete a 52 photo challenge! Yes 1 photo for each week. So much simplier.. especially if there is a theme for me to become inspired!

So for week 1, I did make it simple. My resolution for 2012, is to stick to my goals. I WILL complete this 52 photos challenge! Therefore.. I took a photo of my camera. Boring.. but to the point!

Oh and please ignore just how dirty my equipment is! I need to dust those darn lenses soon!

This maximum resolution composite satellite image of parts of Studio Village and surrounding area, was created using 63 screen-shots of Google Satellite Maps. This image was created to highlight the extreme fire hazard that exists in this area, because there is NO fire-break between the bushland and the adjacent houses. The worst of this is "Terraces on the Park" (the 3 rows of terracotta, brown and gray roofs in the other two images) and the adjacent houses in Crestridge Cres., where the bush meanders though the complex and the trees are in direct contact with the buildings and the timbers of the buildings. This is further exacerbated by a single narrow entry/exit point in Crestridge Cres., that only permits one car to exit or enter at a time. This turns this complex of 90 three bedroom units with over 400 residents into a death-trap with no means of escape or of fighting the fire, in the event of a fire-storm.

This is a disaster -- just waiting to happen. A fire-storm raging through this area, has the potential of producing a greater death-toll here, than all the combined fires in Victoria, last summer. We have had a wet autumn and early winter, that has spawned lots of new growth and a large amount of fuel and we appear to be entering into possibly the driest and hottest spring and summer. All this adds up to a spring and summer of extreme fire danger.

If we wish to avert this disaster... we urgently need to have something done that will substantially lessen the danger. We urgently need to have a 20 to 30 meter fire-break cleared between the houses and the bush and the total removal of trees and bushes in and around Terraces on the Park, in order to give fire-fighters access to fight any fires.

I have written to the government, the council and the fire department and i am waiting for a response. I have also taken about 150 photos that show more detail of the problem... these photos are all found in the "Terraces on the Park Community set" and are available in large format. Please feel free to download and comment on any images. Please also alert your friends and neighbours in the area and send copies of photos and images to your friends, neighbours, relevant authorities and the media.
