Here I go to meet a dear friend who is an artist and lives in this superb city!
And that I also find myself, in another company, by the greatest of bazaars, wandering in the banks and narrow deductions, of the foothills of the untraceable citadel capturing this supreme snapshot of an authentic painter-gallerist, with his hair blowing in the wind like Beethoven, my avatar, pointing a magic wand with the tip of his solfeggio, which I hastened to capture, for the sumptuous posterity of the moment, of the enclosed place, of the effigy, also, of course, of the artist! ! Captured in the instantaneousness: ultimate redundancy!

For those of us residing in the USA, today we celebrate our country's independence. Take some time to study the history, what our forefathers said, did, and wrote, on this day, one that is foundational to our country.
Independence Day (aka, the 4th of July) is often celebrated with friends, family, grilled food, and fireworks. The effect seen in this fireworks image is from manually adjusting focus during a long exposure. Check out the following tips articles and the gear list below them:

Throughout their entire range, the Southern Hognose resides within the range of the congeneric Eastern Hognose (H. platirhinos). They both can be found within same microhabitat. Eastern Hognose, though, have a much more widespread range and are able to inhabit a broader range of habitats.
These two species are frog and toad specialists and contain several adaptations to aid in feeding on this prey item. An upturned and spade shaped rostral (nose) scale is used for digging in the loose sand and soil for burrowing toads and their enlarged rear fangs can be used to deflate these toads, which inflate themselves with air in an effort to make themselves more difficult to eat. Also, they seem to be immune to the bufotoxin which is secreted by certain toads they feed upon. All this said, both species have been known to eat rodents, salamanders and even eggs on occasion.

Whilst reviewing some of my older images that reside in my back catalogue Hard Drive I came across this image from a few years ago, taken on a foggy morning in Autumn at a local wood called Boughton Brake in north Nottinghamshire, my original edit was pretty poor if I'm honest, over the last few years though my post processing knowledge base has massively improved, with that in mind I decided to give the RAW file another edit.
The Brown Wood Owl is a resident breeder in south Asia from India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka east to western Indonesia and south China. This owl is medium large (45-57 cm), with upperparts uniformly dark brown, with faint white spotting on the shoulders.
The Brown Wood Owl is a shy, nocturnal bird. During the daytime it roosts in a dark, densely foliaged tree. If disturbed, it will compress itself into a shape resembling a stub of wood, while watching through half-closed eyes. If this fails, it will fly off silently.
This owl feeds on small mammals such as rats, mice and shrews. It will also take small birds, frogs and reptiles.
This example is 18-month-old Wicket who resides at the Secret Owl Garden in Pembrokeshire.

Upper Zhi-chu Valley Following the Zhi-chu River upstream to its source in the Drida Zellmogang range. This is the name given to the highland region forming a watershed between the upper Dri chu འབྲི་ཆུ་ (Yangtze) and the upper Nyag chu ཉག་ཆུ་ (Yalong). En route it passes through Khorlomdo and Rida, where there are small Sakyapa monasteries, and the Kasado gorge. Khorlomdo, 28 km from Derge Gonchen, has an old copper image of Jowo Shakyamuni in its assembly hall, which is now maintained by some 50 monks. Two 3-4 day trekking routes lead from Khorlomdo to Dzogchen Monastery, crossing the Trola Range (Chola Range) via Henak La pass (4950 m) and via Le La pass (4390 m). The former passes in close proximity to Mount Dorje Ziltrom (5816 m), which is one of the highest peaks of the Trola Range (Chola Range). The latter, which is the old trade route to Dzachuka, passes through Galen Gonpa (3700 m), the seat of Namkhai Norbu, who resides in Italy and has established an international network of centres, know collectively as the Dzogchen Community. www.footprinttravelguides.com/c/2848/tibet/&Action=pr...

In the symphony of life, raindrops fall,
A liquid ballet, a dance with the surreal.
Tap-dancing on rooftops, a rhythmic trance,
In the theater of existence, a cosmic chance.
No umbrellas for the mind's downpour,
Thoughts cascade like rain, a mental uproar.
Droplets of introspection, a cerebral storm,
In the labyrinth of consciousness, a novel form.
Each raindrop carries a tale untold,
Whispers of stories, secrets unfold.
A liquid narrative, soaking the soul,
In the manuscript of time, each chapter unrolls.
Sometimes it's a drizzle, a gentle caress,
Soft kisses on cheeks, a divine finesse.
Other times a tempest, a wild cascade,
A deluge of emotions, a masquerade.
Rain in our lives, a transient guest,
Cleansing the canvas, leaving the rest.
Puddles of memories, reflections in splatter,
In the mosaic of existence, what does it matter?
Eccentric droplets, quirky and free,
They mimic our essence, the human decree.
A shower of chaos, a downpour of grace,
In the fluidity of life, we find our place.
So let the rain fall, both wild and mild,
A liquid paradox, a whimsical child.
In the tapestry of time, where droplets reside,
Life's peculiar rain, forever our guide. - Cate Infinity

The Oman homestead resides on the banks of Oman's Creek as it empties into Lake Superior at Little Girl's Point in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Excerpt from the plaque:
In 1873 King Gojong built Geoncheonggung in between the garden hill of Noksan and Hyangwonjeong Pavilion and resided here together with his queen, Empress Myeongseong. Unlike other palace bedchambers, Geoncheonggung was built in yangbank household style with the main quarters (Jangandang), inner quarters (Gonnyeonghap) and an annex (Boksudang). The building is 2.5 times larger than the uppermost limit of a yangban household. When a fire broke out in Gyeongbokgung Palace in 1876, King Gojong moved to Changdeokgung Palace and came back to live in Geoncheonggung in 1885 and resided here for 10 years until 1896. Geoncheonggung was the first place in Korea to have electric lights fitted up in 1887 by the Edison Electric Light Company, and was also the scene where Empress Myeongseong was murdered by Japanese assassins in 1895. Geoncheonggung was demolished in 1909, when the Japanese colonial rule tore down many parts of Gyeongbokgung Palace and the Japanese Governmen-General Art Gallery was built in its place. The gallery was later used as the National Museum of Contemporary Arts and was demolished in 1998. Geoncheonggung was restored to its former state by the Cultural Heritage administration and open to the public in October 2007.

Boy coming back home at sunset hour
A rather low-income village, where despite the demoralizing effect of life lived in the poverty line, with few prospects and marred by economic conflicts, people are kind and generous, with that kind simplicity of being strangers to the stress and pressure of those residing in the big cities seeking ways to improve their living conditions and opportunities, pursuing a "better quality of life".
As in any small community, everybody knows each other. And by know I mean individual backgrounds, histories, and family situations. Even if you are a stranger to them or spent enough time away to become one, they´ll bow down to you whenever you walk past them (and it´s considered rude to not greet back). That creates an environment in which kids can wander around on their own, absolutely free and all safe from harm to play, explore and discover their "world".
Its modest infrastructure turnes into something like a large amusement park where the theme is nature, devoid of the trappings and accessories imbuing our daily life in the city. Children benefit from the opportunity to create their own fun using whatever it is the surrounding environment provides them with. I think this entertainment experience tends to promote the potential talents and resources of each child.
Yet, whether they are fully aware of it or not, they have their own concerns: isolation, lack of development and economic possibilities, almost forgotten and not representing priority concern for people who make decisions that will affect their present and future.
After spending great moments of my childhood in this quiet place, I think of myself as a small town spirit but undeniably hooked on the benefits of urban life.
This kid is my grandmother´s neighbor. He´s coming back home, I assumed after a long day playing in those dirt quiet streets.
As soon as I saw him walking towards me this question came to my mind, the dichotomy that exists in me between my preference for the calmness and peace of mind such places can provide on the one hand, and the city offer of easier access to the comforts money can buy on the other.
So what "better quality of life" really is?

These scans come from my rather large magazine collection. Instead of filling my house with old moldy magazines, I scanned them (in most cases, photographed them) and filled a storage area with moldy magazines. Now they reside on an external harddrive. I thought others might appreciate these tidbits of forgotten history.
Please feel free to leave any comments or thoughts or impressions... They are happily appreciated!
Enjoy!
HISTORIC SIGNIFICANCE
On July 7, 1880, Estisa and Patten Bartlett sold lot 10 of the E. M. Bartlett addition in Elgin to Francis Preston for $500. At that time, Francis resided at 271 (now numbered 421) Division, adjacent to this lot. He quickly improved the lot by building the home that is known as 429 Division Street.
Francis apparently used the new house at 429 Division Street as a rental property, never living there himself. The 1884 City directory lists tenant Charles Young at that address. Francis retained ownership of 429 Division until selling it in 1889 to Conrad and Lydia Buel for $3,500.
Francis was born in New Hampshire in November of 1832 to Paschal and Ruth Preston. Frank enlisted at the beginning of the civil war in his home state of New Hampshire and served as a commander throughout the war.
After he settled in Elgin in 1868, he was very active in the GAR, The Grand Army of the Republic. Francis was employed at Elgin National Watch Factory and was known to be a fine musician. For many years he was the leader of the Bluff City Band and a prominent member of the Elgin Watch Factory Band. Near the end of his life, he was elected town collector, but was unable to attend to his duties because of his health. The 1878-79 Elgin city directory lists Frank Preston as the assistant foreman of the screw and steel department of the Watch Factory and also the business manager of the Bluff City Band. His address was listed as “Division 2 east of Gifford” as there was no house numbering system in use at that time.
ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE
429 Division Street was built as a substantial Free-Classic Queen Anne style home. The recent historic resources survey lists the home as a contributing structure to the historic significance of the area and in excellent condition.
The development of balloon framing, a construction methodology using smaller dimensions of lumber than previously, permitted the evolution of the exuberant Victorian architecture with its asymmetrical facades and irregularly shaped roofs. Previously, post-and-girt and braced-frame construction both used hewn and/or pegged joints and massive timbers. Since corners were thus hard to stabilize, architects and builders avoided unnecessary corners. Balloon framing construction, developed in Chicago in the 1830s, used two-inch framing boards that extended through two full stories. The joints were nailed, making construction faster and less costly. To the delight of Victorian architects, the small lumber dimensions allowed easy construction of irregular plans with many bays, extensions, turrets and towers. Queen Anne Style was developed in England by architect Richard Norman Shaw and associates. The style, popularized in plan books and magazines, became the predominant architecture in the United States, accounting for 50% of all homes constructed from 1880-1910.
Typical of Queen Anne Style, this house is a cross-gable configuration with a prominent front-facing gable. Like 50% of these homes, it has a steep hipped roof with lower cross-gables placed asymmetrically on the facades. The main roof has a flat deck crowning the hip, where the chimney is located. The Free Classic sub-type accounts for 35% of Queen Anne homes. The name derives from the use of round classical columns rather than turned posts as porch supports. Here, the columns extend the full height of the porch. The polygonal dining room bay features inset rectangular panels under the windows, and decorative brackets supporting the roof of the bay. Decorative woodwork graces the gable over the entry. A triangular window hood is present over the double window on the front-facing gable.
Many Taiwanese people are crazy about U.S.-residing Yankee pitcher Chien-Ming Wang. Wang's sinker is fast and powerful, and even the U.S. media has much praise for him. The Taiwanese in particular regard Wang as a superstar, and any product connected to him will be a bestseller. But even though he is already the best Asian pitcher, Wang is still very humble. We hope Chien-Ming Wang can continue to work hard, bringing glory to Taiwan in the Major League.

The remains of the Norwegian barque Helvetia are probably the most photographed location on Gower Peninsula, South Wales. They reside in Rhossili Bay and it doesn't take a genius to work out why this location is so special for dramatic photography, with the enigmatic figure of Worm's Head also featuring so prominently on the horizon.
We had a shocking December in 2013, in terms of the weather, and this continued into early January 2014. A sequence of storm fronts had battered Wales for a number of weeks. On January 11th 2014, I woke on a Saturday Morning, and to my surprise there were blue skys and glorious sunshine in abundance. The weather forecast also suggested that it was going to be 'set-fair' for the entire day. I could not resist and grabbed the camera and travelled to Rhossii to capture a sunset over Worm's Head, to take advantage of the unseasonable weather and the early dusks at this time of year.
What a special afternoon I had. I had been cooped up in the house for so long that it felt wonderful to be out in the elements. The juxtaposition between the biting wind and the gentle warmth of the dying sunlight on my face filled me with a sense of wonderment. I was also very pleased with the sequence of shots I was able to capture in during this glorious sunset.

NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope captured two festive-looking nebulas, situated so as to appear as one. They reside in the Small Magellanic Cloud, a dwarf galaxy that is a satellite of our Milky Way galaxy. Intense radiation from the brilliant central stars is heating hydrogen in each of the nebulas, causing them to glow red.
The nebulas, together, are called NGC 248. They were discovered in 1834 by the astronomer Sir John Herschel. NGC 248 is about 60 light-years long and 20 light-years wide. It is among a number of glowing hydrogen nebulas in the dwarf satellite galaxy, which is located approximately 200,000 light-years away in the southern constellation Tucana.
The image is part of a study called Small Magellanic Cloud Investigation of Dust and Gas Evolution (SMIDGE). Astronomers are using Hubble to probe the Milky Way satellite to understand how dust is different in galaxies that have a far lower supply of heavy elements needed to create dust. The Small Magellanic Cloud has between a fifth and a tenth of the amount of heavy elements that the Milky Way does. Because it is so close, astronomers can study its dust in great detail, and learn about what dust was like earlier in the history of the universe. “It is important for understanding the history of our own galaxy, too,” explained the study’s principal investigator, Dr. Karin Sandstrom of the University of California, San Diego. Most of the star formation happened earlier in the universe, at a time where there was a much lower percentage of heavy elements than there is now. “Dust is a really critical part of how a galaxy works, how it forms stars,” said Sandstrom.

With over 10 million mallards (Anas platyrhynchos) residing in North America alone, the Mallards are one of the best-known and most recognizable ducks. the mallard is a dabbling duck found throughout temperate and sub-tropical areas around the world. The most abundant and wide-ranging duck on earth. The mallard usually inhabits the freshwaters of North America, Europe, Asia, New Zealand, and Australia. Mallards usually feed on plants, such as grass seeds, leaves, stems, and aquatic plants, and vegetation like grains, rice, oats, and corn. However, they are also seen feeding on insects, mollusks, small fish, tadpoles, freshwater snails, fish eggs, frogs, and crustaceans. This Mallard drake was photographed at White Rock Lake in Dallas, Texas.

"The creative force and the expressiveness of painting reside materially in the color and texture of pigment, in the possibilities of form invention and organization, and in the flat plane on which these elements are brought to play. The artist is concerned solely with linking these absolute qualities directly to his wit, imagination and experience, without the go-betweens of a 'subject.' Working on a single plane as the instantaneous visualizing factor, he realizes his mind motives and physical sensations in a permanent and universal language of color, texture, and form organization. He uncovers the pure plane of expression that has so long been hidden by the glazings of nature imitation, anecdote and other popular subjects. Accordingly the artist's work is to be measured by the vitality, the invention, and the definiteness and conviction of purpose within his own medium."

The Raja Mahal (King's Palace), where the kings and the queens had resided till it was abandoned in 1783, was built in the early part of 16th century. Its exterior is simple and unembellished, but the interior chambers of the palace are elaborately royal in their architectural design, decorated with murals of social and religious themes of gods, mythical animals, and people. In the upper floor of the palace, there are traces of mirrors in the ceilings and walls. Its windows, arcaded passages, and layout plan are designed in such a way that the "sunlight and shadow create areas of different moods and temperatures throughout the day". The interior walls of the Mahal have murals of Lord Vishnu. The Mahal has several secret passages.
The Orchha Fort complex, which houses a large number of ancient monuments consisting of the fort, palaces, temple, and other edifices, is located in Orchha town in Madhya Pradesh. The fort and other structures within it were built by the Bundela Rajputs starting from the early 16th century by King Rudra Pratap Singh of the Orchha State and others who followed him.
The fort complex, which is accessed from an arched causeway, leads to a large gateway. This is followed by a large quadrangular open yard surrounded by palaces. These are Raja Mahal or Raja Mandir, Sheesh Mahal, Jahangir Mahal, a temple, gardens and pavilions. The battlements of the fort have ornamentation.

The Kyoto Imperial Palace (京都御所 Kyoto-gosho) is the former ruling palace of the Emperor of Japan. The Emperors have since resided at the Tokyo Imperial Palace after the Meiji Restoration in 1869, and the preservation of the Kyoto Imperial Palace was ordered in 1877. Today, the grounds are open to the public, and the Imperial Household Agency hosts public tours of the buildings several times a day.
The Kyoto Imperial Palace is the latest of the imperial palaces built at or near its site in the north-eastern part of the old capital of Heian-kyō after the abandonment of the larger original Heian Palace (大内裏 Dai-dairi) that was located to the west of the current palace during the Heian Period. The Palace lost much of its function at the time of the Meiji Restoration, when the capital functions were moved to Tokyo in 1869. However, the Taishō and Shōwa Emperors still had their enthronement ceremonies at the palace.- wikipedia

NS train D70 is en route from NS's Voltz Yard to BNSF's Argentine Yard as it approaches 25th St. at Santa Fe JCT on the KCT North-South Corridor. On this day, the train was led by an Ex-ATSF B40-8 now wearing the Heritage I paint scheme and an Ex-BN SD60M still in Cascade Green. Over to the left, a southbound BNSF manifest can be seen approaching North Chicago JCT.
The searchlight signal in the picture still stands today along with several others and all are safe at least for now.
What you likely won't ever see here again is a former Santa Fe 4-axle Dash 8 leading a transfer or anything else for that matter. The BNSF B40-8 No. 580 was a part of the Kansas City Transfer Pool for several years and was seen frequently roaming around town. In the summer of 2017, it was bad ordered and sent to Topeka where it was then stored. Currently, this engine is still residing at Topeka, but it is now LUFS (Laid Up For Sale).
NS train D70 also no longer delievers automotive traffic across town from NS's Voltz Yard near Birmingham, MO to BNSF's Argentine Yard in Kansas City, KS. After NS began implementing Precision Scheduled Railroading, this operating ceased and anything at Voltz bound for the BNSF is picked up by NS train 112. When this job did run, it almost always ran with BNSF power, whether it be from transfers to NS's Avondale Yard or just any road power that needed to be returned. 2/8/15.
This particular bird resides at the Alberta Bird of Prey Centre in Coaldale, southern Alberta, a wonderful place that rehabilitates and releases (whenever possible) various birds of prey - hawks, owls, Bald Eagles, Turkey Vultures, and Golden Eagles. Some of these birds act as Wildlife Ambassadors, too, educating the public.
It had been a few years since my last visit to the Alberta Bird of Prey Centre - I've only been maybe three or four times - and I had been longing to go back. Much too far and all new driving territory for me to even think about driving there myself. However, six days ago, on 9 September 2016, that is exactly what I did. A friend had said she would come along, too, but she emailed me at 1:00 am that morning to say that she assumed our trip had been cancelled, as she hadn't heard back about the time to meet. In fact, I had sent two emails giving the time, so I don't know what happened there. Very unfortunate, as it would have been great to have had company on such a long drive, and I know she would have had great fun with her camera.
I knew it would be a long day and further than I would normally drive - and in a brand new car that I have yet to learn to drive! It doesn't look or feel quite as new now, after travelling 481 km, plus a long trip the next day! Only got lost twice, one minor and the other major. Must have taken a wrong turn somewhere way down south and I ended up in the city of Lethbridge, that I had very carefully planned to avoid. After driving for three and three-quarter hours, I finally arrived, to my huge relief.
Despite getting there later than I had hoped, I still had more than enough time to wander round the grounds and photograph the various raptors. Some were tethered out in a grassy area and others were in outdoor cages. Wonderful to get such a close look at the various majestic birds.
I took a slightly different way home via #845 (?), making absolutely sure that I didn't accidentally find myself in Lethbridge again and it wasn't too long before I found myself in the area that I had driven a few weeks ago, when I went SW of Vulcan to look for Common Nighthawks (without any luck).
Just so happy that I finally made myself do this drive. When I Googled the Centre's website, I had discovered that they were closing two days later for the winter. So, it was either a case of going the next day or not at all till next May onwards.
The day after this adventure, 10 September 2016, I took my daughter on a long drive in Kananaskis. This was yet another place that I had longed to be able to drive for many years - and finally I did it! I had been lots of times with various friends, but this was the very first time I had ever driven myself. We had planned to do this a few weeks earlier, but then my car had major repairs that needed to be done. Instead, I knew I just couldn't put any more money into my 17-year-old car, and I ended up replacing it. So glad we went to the mountains on this particular day, as it snowed the following day.

I finally made it to Lower Lewis River Falls in the Fall of 2024. It took so long because it resides in the backwaters of Skamania County, Washington, just beyond the middle of nowhere. Autumn was just getting under way, and some of the leaves were turning gold. Sunlight slanted in from the southwest, and filtered through the forest. It was a nice day for a first time.

Makoshika State Park, on the outskirts of Glendive, Montana, is part of the natural playground I feel I reside within ever since moving to the region last year. When one mentions "Montana", the badlands and rugged terrain that dots the southeastern part of the state is not what usually first comes to mind but is no less beautiful than the Rockies to the west or the Great Plains that surround these treasures. The deep erosion into sedimentary layers at Makoshika State Park has allowed the discovery of a wealth of dinosaur fossils, some of which may be seen at the visitor center at the park's entrance.
