Alexander's reputation for well built but often utilitarian bodies came in part for the predominantly Scottish markets they sold to up until the 1980's when their products became more popular across the UK.
This 1987 Leyland Tiger with Alexander TC body was new to Strathtay and is now in preservation. It is seen here parked up at Newport Quay during the Isle of Wight Beer and Buses event in October 2018.
This is a beautiful old cemetery, with a reputation for excellent bird watching opportunities.
The first cemetery in Fort Collins was created to serve the cavalry military post. During the military occupation of Fort Collins through 1867, less than a dozen soldiers appear to have ended their days. As the town developed a different site was chosen, and the soldiers' remains were moved to the new "Mountain Home". Those remains were gradually transferred to Grandview beginning in late 1887 or early 1888 and by the 1920s the site of the former cemetery at Mountain Home had been converted to a playground.
April was doing its very best to live up to its reputation" This shower came on while I was in Holland Park; I like the rain drops falling from the unguttered roof of the former Ice House (now used for exhibitions), also the drops on the roses growing around the building. I used as slow a shutter as I could get away with in order to produce the 'stair rod' effect. Something to notice is that the length of the drops increases the further away they are from the roof, they are of course gathering speed!

This is a photograph from the pre-start of the annual Na Fianna AC "Bob Heffernan and Mary Hanley" 5KM Road Race and Fun Run which was held in Johnstownbridge, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Tuesday 17th May 2022 at 20:00. This race needs no introductions as it is now firmly established on the Leinster road racing calendar with athletes travelling from all over the region to take part. The race has gained a glowing reputation as being one of the fastest 5KM road races in Ireland. It is one of the rare occasions around road racing circles these days where a very small club can organise a very successful large participation race. The attendance at this year's race exceeded all expectations. Today's race had a record attendance with over 700 participants finishing the race following on from around 600 finishers in 2019. This is the first staging of the race since May 2019 after two postponements due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This enforced hiatus has done nothing to reduce the allure of the race with runners coming from far and wide to participate. Popup Races were the official timing and event management partners of the race.
Our full set of photographs from today's race is at www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/albums/72177720299045746. Please acknowledge us if you use these photographs for any purpose
This race has great historical and emotional significance for the hosting club Na Fianna. Since the race's inception over 25 years ago it has commemorated the years of work and volunteering that local man Bob Heffernan gave to Meath, Leinster, and Irish athletics from grass roots upwards and his work with the host club Na Fianna AC. This year the dearly departed Mary Hanley joins Bob in receiving the honour of race dedication. Mary was a stalwart athlete, coach and volunteer for Na Fianna AC for her entire life right up to her untimely passing in summer 2021. Na Fianna AC are typical of many rural sporting clubs who have a large catchment area which combines rural North Kildare and South Meath taking in Enfield, Rathmoylan, Johnstownbridge and Baconstown. The race, known affectionately by club-members as simply "Bob's race" (and now Mary's) is a fitting tribute to commemorate his contribution to this sport. Indeed, not many road races are held in the same affection by runners as Bob's Race with runners returning back every year to sample the course and the wonderful atmosphere again. More rarely heard is runners reminiscing of running this race 15 or 20 years ago! What a fantastic endorsement of the race. Indeed, we remember the days 18 years ago when this race was held in the village of Rathmoylan about 10 miles from the current venue. In those days the race was deemed a success if 75 to 100 runners made the start line. What a testimony to the hard work of Na Fianna AC today's race is! The weather was perfect for road racing - hardly any wind and warm temperatures - with bright hazy sunshine.
The race is part of the Popup Races KIA Race Series. The race is a fixture on the Meath AAI Road Race calendar despite the fact that the race is run completely in County Kildare. The current route for the race has stayed the same over the past few years. However previous to that the race was held in Enfield and also Rathmoylan in County Meath. The race starts on the busy Enfield to Edenderry road and this requires a big effort from stewards and marshalls. However, as always, the event was a resounding success with personal bests and great runs from many of the participants. The course is very fast and flat - it is a one loop course which is left-handed in terms of turns.
Our photographer on the night was Martin Murphy from North Westmeath Athletic Club - thanks Martin!

Murano’s reputation as a center for glassmaking was born when the Venetian Republic, fearing fire and the destruction of the city’s mostly wooden buildings, ordered glassmakers to move their foundries to Murano in 1291. Murano glass is still associated with Venetian glass. Murano's glassmakers were soon numbered among the island’s most prominent citizens. By the 14th century, glassmakers were allowed to wear swords, enjoyed immunity from prosecution by the Venetian state, and found their daughters married into Venice’s most affluent families. While benefiting from certain statutory privileges, glassmakers were forbidden to leave the Republic. However, many of them took the risks associated with migration and established glass furnaces in surrounding cities and farther afield - sometimes in England and the Netherlands. Murano’s glassmakers held a monopoly on high-quality glassmaking for centuries, developing or refining many technologies including crystalline glass, enameled glass (smalto), glass with threads of gold (aventurine), multicolored glass (millefiori), milk glass (lattimo), and imitation gemstones made of glass. Today, the artisans of Murano still employ these centuries-old techniques, crafting everything from contemporary art glass and glass jewelry to Murano glass chandeliers and wine stoppers.
Today, Murano is home to the Museo del Vetro or Murano Glass Museum in the Palazzo Giustinian, which holds displays on the history of glassmaking as well as glass samples ranging from Egyptian times through the present day.
Some of the companies that own historical glass factories in Murano are among the most important brands of glass in the world. These companies include Venini, Ferro Murano, Barovier & Toso, Simone Cenedese and Seguso. Today, to protect the original Murano Glass art from foreign markets, the most famous Glass Factories of this island have a Trade mark that certifies products in glass made in the island of Murano. The oldest Murano glass factory that is still active today is that of Pauly & C. – Compagnia Venezia Murano, founded in 1866.

The World Museum of Mining was founded in 1963 when the close of Butte's mining heyday was less than two decades away. In the end Butte Montana experienced a century of hardrock mining and earned the reputation of being home to one of the world's most productive copper mines of all time. The Museum exists to preserve the enduring history of Butte and the legacy of its rich mining and cultural heritage.
The World Museum of Mining is one of the few museums in the world located on as actual mine yard- the Orphan Girl Mine. With fifty exhibit buildings, countless artifacts, and sixty-six primary exhibits in the mine yard.
By the late 1920s, Italy's Isotta Fraschini had earned a reputation for both performance and luxury among well-heeled American buyers.
The Isotta Fraschini 7.3-liter Tipo 8A, launched in 1924, was built to three different specifications - the standard Tipo 8A on a 145-inch wheelbase and two powerful 150 horsepower models, the Spinto S and Super Spinto SS, each on a 134-inch chassis.
Isotta Fraschini marketed their elegant automobiles to the new American aristocracy, the stars of stage and screen - and they flocked to Isotta's showrooms on Fifth Avenue in New York City, often paying a lot more for an Isotta than they would have paid for a Model J Duesenberg. Clara Bow and Rudolph Valentino both owned Isottas.
The chassis of this Isotta Fraschini was built in Italy and then delivered to the LeBaron Company in the United States to have the boattail body with single rumble seat put on it. Its 160 horsepower straight eight engine made this a powerful and fast car.
Built in Italy and with Custom Coachwork by LeBaron, this Isotta-Fraschini was introduced at the 1928 New York Auto Show. Two such custom boattail bodies were produced. Isotta-Fraschini's were favorites among those such as silent movie star Rudolph Valentino and this particular car was owned by 'America's Darling of Broadway and The Silent Screen,' Marguerite Clark (born in Cincinnati, Ohio) and her husband the aviator Harry Williams. Ms. Clark was the inspiration for the Walt Disney character of 'Snow White.'

Oñate gained a reputation as a stern ruler of both the Spanish colonists and the indigenous people. In October of 1598, a skirmish erupted when Oñate's occupying Spanish military demanded supplies from the Acoma tribe - demanding things essential to the Acoma surviving the Winter. The Acoma resisted and thirteen Spaniards were killed, amongst them Don Juan Oñate’s nephew.
In 1599, Oñate retaliated; his soldiers killed 800 villagers. They enslaved the remaining 500 women and children, and by Don Juan’s decree, the left foot of every Acoma man over the age of twenty-five was amputated. Eighty men had their left foot amputated.
In 1606, Oñate was recalled to Mexico City for a hearing into his conduct. After finishing plans for the founding of the town of Santa Fé, he resigned his post and was tried and convicted of cruelty to both Indians and colonists. He was banished from the "kingdom" of New Mexico but on appeal was cleared of all charges. Eventually Oñate went to Spain, where the king appointed him head of mining inspectors for all of Spain. He died in Spain in 1626. He is sometimes referred to as "the Last Conquistador."
Oñate is honored by some Anglo-Americans, Spanish Americans and Mexican Americans for his exploratory ventures, but is vilified by others for his cruelty to the Indians of Acoma Pueblo.
At the Oñate Monument Visitors Center northeast of Española on New Mexico highway 68 is the 1991 bronze statute dedicated to the man. In 1998 New Mexico celebrated the four hundredth anniversary of his arrival, but that same year individuals opposed to the statue cut off the statue's right foot and left a note saying, "Fair is fair." The sculptor, Reynaldo Rivera, recast the foot but the seam is still visible. Some commentators suggested leaving the statue maimed as a symbolic reminder of the foot-mutilating incident. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juan_de_O%c3%b1ate
Acoma Pueblo was nearly destroyed when Oñate and 70 of his men retaliated for the killing of 13 Spanish soldiers who were hurled off the side of the cliff by warriors when they tried to take grain from the pueblo storehouses in 1598, according the New Mexico Department of Tourism’s Web site. www.nmtourism.org/place/loc/travel/page/DB-place/category...

Negril, Jamaica has a hedonistic reputation, but among the mega-resorts, my son and I found an oasis of calm at the Negril Yoga Center, perfect for families, with a friendly staff and organic kitchen. We enjoyed cliff diving at the West End and visited the rootsy Jerk Fest at the rowdy Three Dives bar, where we sampled curried goat stew and more. On a day trip, we hiked along, and swam in the crystal-clear Mayfield River. Read more: wp.me/pJ91e-2lp
Really cold miserable day
Looe remains a fishing town, and several fish dealers operate from the docks of East Looe. With its fleet of small fishing boats returning their catches to port daily, Looe has a reputation for producing excellent fresh fish. The town is also a centre for shark fishing, and is the home of the Shark Angling Club of Great Britain.
Looe's main business today is, however, tourism, with much of the town given over to hotels, guest houses and holiday homes, along with a large number of pubs, restaurants, and shops selling beach equipment, ice cream and Cornish pasties. Inland from Looe lie many camping and caravan sites, as well as a famous Woolly monkey sanctuary. Other local attractions include the beaches, sailing, fishing and diving, and spectacular coastal walks (especially that via Talland to Polperro. Several stately homes, including Antony House, Cotehele, Mount Edgcumbe, and Lanhydrock House, as well as the Eden Project near St Austell may be visited by tourists who can travel by car.
East Looe centres on its broad sandy beach, with the distinctive Banjo Pier, creation of Joseph Thomas, a new lifeboat station and St Mary's Church. Stretching back from here is a grid of narrow streets forming the main business area of the town, packed with many small shops, restaurants and pubs, and the Old Guildhall, now a museum. Along the estuary lies the quay, with several fish dealers. Towards the bridge lies the Victorian Guildhall, and just north of the bridge the railway station. This is the terminus of the Looe Valley branch line to Liskeard (at Liskeard, the line connects with the main Plymouth to Penzance Great Western Main Line).
On the hilltop above East Looe lies Shutta, and beyond that the Sunrising housing estate and Looe Community School. Along the cliffs to the east is Plaidy Beach, and further on the bay and village of Millendreath with another beach.

This is a photograph from the 4.5KM mark of the annual Na Fianna AC "Bob Heffernan and Mary Hanley" 5KM Road Race and Fun Run which was held in Johnstownbridge, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Tuesday 16th May 2023 at 20:00.
Today's race again recorded an attendance of over 700 participants following on from approximately the same numbers in 2022.
The full set of photographs are available at our Flickr photoset here :

This race has great historical and emotional significance for the hosting club Na Fianna. Since the race's inception over 26 years ago it has commemorated the years of work and volunteering that local man Bob Heffernan gave to Meath, Leinster, and Irish athletics from grass roots upwards and his work with the host club Na Fianna AC. Last year the dearly departed Mary Hanley joined Bob Heffernan in receiving the honour of race co-dedication. Mary Hanley was a stalwart athlete, coach and volunteer for Na Fianna AC for her entire life right up to her untimely passing during the summer 2021. Mary and Bob gave a lifetime of dedication to the promotion of their club. Na Fianna AC are typical of many rural sporting clubs who have a large catchment area which combines rural North Kildare and South Meath taking in Enfield, Rathmoylan, Johnstownbridge and Baconstown. The race, known affectionately by club-members as simply "Bob's race" (and now Mary's) is a fitting tribute to commemorate their contributions to this sport. Indeed, not many road races are held in the same affection as this race with runners returning back every year to sample the course and the wonderful atmosphere again.
In addition to the fast course and competitive field, the weather was perfect for road racing. There was warm evening sunshine with hardly any wind.

Social Reputation Management Conference organized by www.bdionline.com (cc) Shashi Bellamkonda www.shashi.name Social Media Swami Network Solutions Please feel free
Part I: General Information
Name: Killian Vanden, son of King Kain Vanden of the West. Killian means ‘fierceness’ or ‘courage in war or strife’.
Date of Birth or Age: Killian was born on a stormy winter’s night during a war between the country of the West and the country of the East waged because of the disagreements having to do with slave trade. The event inspired Killian’s name. Today, he is 26 years old.
Primary Motivation: Killian lives to see the prosperity of his people and the reputation of Valdeste restored. Valdeste is notorious for their wars. His father, Kain, while occupying the throne, was infamous for his ruthlessness, hunger for power, and intolerance to races other than humans. Killian would rather see peace come to Valdeste and its allies and diversity come to the Western country.
Part II: Character Traits
Outlook: Wishful yet cautious. While Killian does his best to keep an open mind, he was brought up being taught that people are deceitful and jealous. Killian would like to believe that he can trust in others. Upon finding those he can trust, they become dear and protected allies.
Integrity: Killian prides himself in being a man of his word. If he feels he cannot keep a promise he will not make it. Killian’s morals have been shaped over time by things he wishes to uphold or things he disagrees with and he holds strong to his ethics as taught by his mother.
Affinity: Killian believes in benefit of the doubt and is sympathetic toward others who are deserving of such; however, his emotional connection diminishes significantly after treachery is apparent. While Killian doesn’t necessarily hold grudges, and does his best to be forgiving, it takes effort to win back his respect once it had been lost.
Demeanor: Killian displays sincerity when interacting with others; however, initial meetings find Killian quiet and calculative as he wants to understand how the people he is interacting with work, what their morals are, and if they seem trustworthy. He has an air of confidence about him and while he is every bit the royal he seems, Killian manages to be modest. He does not feel himself above anyone else because of his ties to the throne.
Habits and Hobbies: Killian tends to be somewhat superstitious as his mother was well versed in things such as palm reading and divination. The Queen also taught Killian how to spot omens, good or bad. Killian has three major hobbies. The first is riding. Killian loves all sorts of animals, but he always kept horses in high regard as his mother taught him they were majestic and intelligent. Killian considers his horse, Zhi, a friend of his. The second is hunting. He respects animals, and respects the act of killing them for food. Killian is always sure to use the animal in full from meat to pelt to minimize waste and death in vain. The last is Astronomy. Killian was taught to read the skies for poor weather coming as the climate in the West is unpredictable. Killian has made it a habit to check the morning sky and night sky for weather and omens.
Topics of Conversation: History of the West and divination or omen reading. Killian is proud of the history of his people and will talk very openly about it. He believes in the good of his people and wishes to pass the information to anyone willing to listen. He enjoys explaining means of divination or omen reading because of the connection he had with his mother over it.
Group Affiliations: Other than his affiliation with the people of the West, Killian has roots within with Druidic and Shamanistic groups. His grandfather (the Queen’s father) was a well known Druid in Whitoren.
Mental and Emotional Disorders: A trauma that he has been left with because of his father’s paranoia is his trusting of people comes slowly. While not debilitating, Killina does have anxieties about those he can trust even within his Kingdom.
Part III: Background
Birthplace: Killian was born in Castle Vanden within the borders of Valdeste. Valdeste is a modest city built within the western hills. To either side of the city there are vast forests. The city is protected from the harshest and unpredictability of the western weather because of the treelines. Valdeste’s government is influenced by the royal family but each city within the western country has someone elected who is a head of the city-state.
Family: Killian’s father’s side of the family has a long history of ruling Valdeste. The Vanden bloodline has been on the throne for hundreds of years and the family has always had a son to receive the crown. Kain Vanden was a well-known warrior before he was king and was in the frontlines of many battles. Kain was always wary of who his friends were and it wasn’t often that he trusted anyone. He was a secretive man and expected that others were just as secretive toward him. Killian’s mother, Gwyn Rhys, came from a family fluent in the magical arts. Her father (Owain Rhys) was a Druid and respected figure head within Whitoren. Gwyn became the Queen of Valdeste after Kain asked for her hand shortly after meeting her. Kain had been travelling the west personally enlisting young men for his army. Gwyn’s brother (Killian’s Uncle), Davyd Rhys, was one of the few men Kain trusts with his life. When Killian was nine years old, Gwyn became pregnant; however, during the pregnancy there were complications and Gwyn passed away along with her unborn child. After Gwyn’s death, Kain became much bitterer believing that the healers in the kingdom should have done more to help Killian’s mother. Davyd taught Killian many things after Gwyn passed away including archery, riding, and hunting. Killian’s uncle remains a constant pillar of strength in the young king’s life. The reputation of the Vanden family was that of strength and even ruthlessness because of Kain and his combative fathers before him.
Professions: Killian become proficient in riding and hunting beneath his uncle, Davyd, though he did not apprentice officially for those professions. He apprenticed formally under a master swordsman and the kingdom’s Captain of the Guard for hand to hand combat as well as swordsmanship which Killian has almost fully mastered; however, he believes there is of course room for improvement. Besides those professions, Killian now holds the title of King of the Western Country as his father has fallen in and passed the crown to his only son.
Part IV: Past Events
Family Related Events: A breach in the kingdom was a particularly troublesome time as a former city-state head planned to kill the king when Killian was a young boy. Once the king was killed, the queen was to be murdered next and after her, Killian was to be killed. The head of Tannal, Greir Wahrrin, was found guilty of hiring a number of assassins from the eastern lands while the king was distracted with planning a war against the same land. The plans were found by Davyd and the head of Tannal was put to death for treason.
Personal Events: The most notable personal event Killian has been through is becoming the crowned king of the west. He has been ruling over the land for less than a year and hardly thinks himself a king, but still more of a prince.
Notable Individuals: Killian’s mother is the most notable individual in his life. Her lessons are what still keep him open minded man and Davyd is the remarkable individual he credits his skill to.
Mysteries: Killian’s father has recently fallen ill with a sickness that no healer can diagnose. Kain seems to be suffering a sort of dementia as his sickness ravages him and talks more and more of treachery within the walls of the castle. While Killian knows his father has always had problems trusting those around him, he feels there might be an air of truth to what his father says. Killian is becoming suspicious as to why the king has fallen ill without treatment being at all effective. His mother’s death also seemed sudden and Killian is beginning to wonder if there isn’t a traitor amongst them who wishes to see the Vanden family fall and leave the throne unoccupied. In the event the throne should become abandoned or left emptied, law states that the people of the west will vote amongst the city-state heads to see who will take up the throne. Recently,Kain has been asking Killian to “keep it safe” and Killian isn’t sure what his father means by “it” Davyd insists that “it” is the throne, but Killian isn’t so sure.
Existing Conflicts: Conflict has arisen with the suspicion of his father’s illness and heads of city-states believing that Killian is not fit to rule the kingdom despite his knowledge. Killian has been attempting to find full histories of the Vanden bloodline to see what might have people wanting the family out of the way, but so far has been unsuccessful.
Possessions: Killian always carries his sword with him. It was forged for him and given as a gift from his father when he turned 18. Also, Killian always wears a necklace with an ivory carving of a bird’s feather as the pendant, it was his mother’s.
Duties: Killian upholds his duties as king of the west, handling politics for his country and diplomacy involving other countries. He will do what he can to keep the west free of war unlike his father and grandfathers before him who would readily go to war at the very mention of it.

This is a photograph from the 15th annual Daingean Festival 5KM Road Race and Fun Run held in Daingean, Co. Offaly, on Friday 1st August 2014 at 19:30. The race is held annually on the Friday before the August bank holiday weekend and over the years has built a solid reputation as a challenging but fair 5KM. Several former olympians have set course record times on the course as well as personal bests for many other runners over the years. This is the second year the course changed from it's traditional 4 laps of Daingean village.
The race also benefits from the fantastic support of athletes from the running clubs of Offaly, Laois, Westmeath, and beyond.
All of this year's photographs are available on our Flickr photostream at www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157646095125104/
Congratulations to all of the organising committee, those from Tullamore Harriers and Naomh Mhuire AC who assisted with race organisation, and the local community who come out in strength to offer support and encouragement to the runners. The race marks one of the first events in the annual Daingean Music and Holiday Festival. The Daingean 5KM road race is an example of a small local race which year-in year-out attracts a quality field for all categories whilst also providing a great opportunity for those new to running to sample a race experience. There was a very impressive selection of refreshments provided for participants in the village hall afterwards. There was over 170 participants in the race tonight.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.
Don't like your photograph here?
That's OK! We understand!
If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.
I want to tell people about these great photographs!
Great! Thank you! The best link to spread the word around is probably http://www.flickr.com/peterm7/sets
This is a photograph from the start of the 2nd Annual Kilcock Athletic Club 10 Mile Road Race which was held in the town of Kilcock, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Sunday 18th August 2019 at 10:10. The race is promoted by the St. Coca's AC club and this is a very successful second installment of the race. With over 600 participants there is a great deal of work and organisation required to stage a long distance race in the area between the Kilcock, Maynooth and Clane catchment areas. St. Coca's AC have established a fine reputation from their annual 5KM road race held every June. They are also well known for the lavish and plentiful after-race refreshment spreads they provide!
The race has grown and expanded on its first installment where there were 500 finishers. This year seen just over 600 finishers of the race.
The weather was a mixed affair. Temperatures were warm and pleasant but there was a very strong westerly breeze. This has both a headwind and tailwind effect in the race, most notably making the Canal section at the end a little more difficult. There was a light shower of rain during the race.
The race starts near Scoil Ui Riada on the Kilcock to Clane road. The route heads south-easterly along the first 1.5 miles of the Kilcock AC 5KM road race route. The route turns right here at Laragh and heads towards the townlands of Clonfirth, Baltracey and Balraheen. The half way point is at the well known Ladychapel Church crossroads between the L1010 and the Maynooth-Rathcoffey R408 road. Proceeding northwards toward Maynooth the race takes a left at the Crinstown Cross Roads to mark the turn back westerly towards Kilcock. Just after mile 7 the race crosses the M4/M6 Kilcock/Maynooth motorway bypass. This crossing and the next canal bridge are the only real 'hills' on the course. The last two miles turn westward toward Kilcock along the Royal Canal Greenway. The race enters the Greenway at Jackson's Bridge and proceeds along the bank of the Canal under Bailey's Bridge, across Chamber's Bridge and finishing at The Harbour in Kilcock opposite Lidl and the former Dermot Kelly's Garage. Water stations are provided at mile 3 and mile 6. Overall, the route is fast, fair and very suitable to fast road racing and competitive times.
Our full set of photographs from today's race are available here on Flickr at the following album: www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/albums/72157710376217787
Electronic Chip Timing and Event Management was provided by Irish Company MyRunResults - their website will have more details and results of the race www.myrunresults.com/events/kilcock_10_from_10/2926/details
One of the interesting features of the race is the start time of 10:10 in the morning. The significance of the 10s are as follows: it is a 10 mile race, it is 10 weeks exactly from the Dublin City Marathon in October 2019, and the course is a great opportunity for runners of all abilities to gain that illusive PB or season best.
Here's a little something on the rarer side, thanks to a transaction with a fellow board member.
Ghost in the Shell has taken somewhat of a beating lately. Like Dragon Ball, Ghost in the Shell is one of those series that even the most casual anime fan would have at least heard of... and much like Dragon Ball, its reputation got knocked down a peg or two due to a botched live action movie though, to be fair, was way, way better than Evolutions ever was.
I don't remember the specifics, but I do remember enough to know that the main character is Motoko Kusanagi, a human consciousness, or Ghost, that has been transferred to a humanoid body, or Shell. She's part of a special Police task force that, of course, handles all the fun missions. Through time, her look is updated somewhat but you're pretty much always guaranteed some sort of leather, and some sort of skin tight suit. Stand Alone Complex (or SAC) I believe was the first TV series, and as such I believe originated this classic look of hers.
Now, lets talk about what THIS figure is specifically. The answer is.. I really don't know. Kusanagi here is from the Yamato VMF line which appears to have died off after 4 releases or so. Roughly scaled to be 1/7, the figure retailed for 7,800 yen back in 2008. According to eBay, the aftermarket on this (and all the other VMF lines) are a wee bit higher than 7,800 yen.. like triple the amount.
Normally, this would be the end of the story, but as luck would have it, I was able to negotiate the release of this particular sample for effectively MSRP.
So here we go...
The figure set is in a giant box which is kind of sparse in terms of its contents, especially given the MSRP. Other than the main figure, the set comes with a set of bare shoulders (more on that later), a pistol, a machine gun, and a stand.. that's it. Compare that to the smaller but better geared out Figma, you can see why the larger action figure market kind of died out there for a while until PAK somehow managed to get it up and running again.
As I'm dealing with 2008 tech here, take everything I'm going to say with a grain of salt, but know that the age doesn't excuse everything.
Mentioned above, this figure is roughly in 1/7 in scale, and is the same size as the Yamato Neuromancer Yoko Littner that I picked up a month or so ago from that pawn store (spoiler alert). The 4 year gap between the two definitely shows as the overall sculpting of the Neuromancer is light years better than the VMF. Articulation gains between the two I believe are a functional waist, better upper torso movement range, and chest compress function. Overall, you're not going to get super deep range of motion like you'd expect from the skin tight suited Figma offerings.
The Neuromancer has ridiculously floppy joints, but the VMF wins the award for "figure most likely to fall apart if you look at it funny". Connected using a series of ball joints, I've had every singly possible limb come off the figure, though fortunately reassembly is relatively straight forward and the parts are quite solid. The VMF actually can stand up without its stand, which is something I can't really say for the Neuromancer.
While more mannequin in appearance in comparison to the Neuromancer, the VMF body itself does a decent job of portraying Kunsanagi, aided by a very good head sculpt, albeit with some dead eye stare issues. The gap between her thighs is very, very odd to look at, to say the least.
By default, Kusanagi is wearing her "leather" jacket, which effectively is a solid plastic shell. As a static piece it looks pretty good, but Lord forbid if you decide to actually pose her upper body in the jacket. Arm articulation is extremely limited while donning the jacket, and it's only after you "strip" her of her garment does her articulation truly shine, as it were. As much as I live to see the curves of my Waifus, it would be nice if she had the option of actually posing effectively with her garb on.
Paint work and detailing on the figure, surprisingly, hold up pretty well despite the 11 year gap between its release and now Not that there's much actual paint on the figure, but what is there is solid and honestly is no worse than what I'd expect to see on a good prize figure these days, meaning some flaws are pretty much gonna be there. As mentioned ,it really is the head sculpt and decal work there that sells this figure as being Motoko Kusanagi.
Because her hands cannot be swapped out, Kunsanagi is only capable of holding her weapon in her right hand, which is good and bad.. I suppose I'd do the right anyway, but an option to differentiate would have been nice. What IS annoying, however, is the fact that it appears you have to squeeze the weapon between her middle and ring fingers in order to actually have her hold the piece.
And there you have it.
I don't actually know why the aftermarket price for this figure is at levels to infinity and beyond.. of course, asking price is no indication of actual sold price, but I imagine it's only a matter of time of they're all at those prices.
For now, I can safely say that this figure is clearly a product of it's time and of Yamato quality, with some good aspects that made it into the products of today.
Anyone have a Figma they want to sell me?
