I am reposting this image because of a serendipitous event that occurred today. I had photographed this gazebo over a month ago during my wanderings on the sideroads of Halton Hills. Today while doing much of the same I noticed an elderly man with long white hair lying in the road on busy Hwy 7 near Acton. I stopped the car and helped him to his feet. He explained that he was waiting for the bus to take him to Rockwood, 15 minutes away and had to sit down because his back gave out, and he then could not get up. I offered a chair I had stored in the trunk but my husband suggested we drive him to Rockwood. This 96 year-old man delighted us with his sharp wit and gentle nature. As we neared his home the scenery began to look familiar- I was sure I had been on his road before. It then occurred to me that this is where I had photographed the gazebo. I mentioned this to the man and he excitedly let me know that said gazebo was his and he had built it himself. We shared a few stories, including his love of perennial gardening, before letting him out at his house on 60 acres. I told him that I would drop off a copy of my photograph and he invited me to come with my camera when the flowers are blooming- and yes I did ask him to pose for me- "Another time", he said, "I'm a little tired..." What are the chances?
