Mingle Media TV and the Red Carpet Report team were invited to come out to Marc Friedland Couture Communications offices to see how this iconic envelope is made in Marc’s studio. Red Carpet Report host, Tamara Krinsky also spoke with Marc at the Governors Ball preview earlier this week and have included our coverage with this post. At the “Making Of” the envelope at Marc’s studio we were treated to delicious bites and bubbly including wine from Sterling Vineyards and cocktails from Diageo.
At the “Making of” Event we learned that the custom-designed envelope is handcrafted from a high gloss, iridescent metallic
paper, which is then treated in “Oscar” gold and complemented by a red-lacquered lining featuring the Oscar
statuette hand-stamped in satin gold leaf. The exterior of “The Envelope” features an Art Deco-inspired satin gold foil-treated frame with an ecru inset panel bearing the name of the award category which is written in a rich charcoal ink.
Precautions are taken for security so they can’t be duplicated by adding a faint statuette watermarked pattern on the
exterior envelope which also gives “The Envelope” its distinctive look.

Inside “The Envelope” is a heavyweight ecru card with iridescent gold accents and a gold leaf-embossed Oscar statuette with the infamous phrase imprinted "And the Oscar goes to…"
Friedland doesn’t miss any detail as the names of the winners are printed using the same charcoal ink which are then mounted onto a matching, red-lacquered hand-wrapped frame. On the back of the card? You guessed it, it will have the award category imprinted as well.
Hey - wait a minute, doesn’t that mean that Marc and his team know who the winners are?
Good question, no, Friedman’s team create an announcement card with every nominee, in every category for that year’s Oscars. After the voting is closed, PricewaterhouseCoopers(PwC) partners Brian Cullinan and
Rick Rosas personally insert the winner's announcement cards then fasten the envelope with a red double-faced satin ribbon and red-lacquered and gold-embossed seal featuring the PwC logo. Making the envelope official. Once that’s completed, the other cards with the nominees who were not selected as winners are destroyed.

At 8:03PM on October 30, 2020 the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 917 S San Julian Street in Downtown LA. The first arriving fire companies saw heavy smoke coming from the back of a commercial building. They located an outside fire and worked to quickly extinguish it. Despite their efforts, the fire had already extended into the adjacent one story commercial building.
Firefighters forced entry into the 10,832 square foot building (housing three businesses) and initiated an interior fire attack. They continued to work their way into the building while visibility dropped, yet the seat of the fire remained out of reach. Truck companies, on the roof of the building, conducted vertical ventilation, resulting in both fire and pressurized smoke emanating from the holes. It was determined the fire was above the interior crews, likely on a mezzanine which was inaccessible to them. The deteriorating conditions created an untenable position and the incident commander, Assistant Chief Dean Zipperman, made the decision to transition to a defensive operation.
With all firefighters out of the building and off the roof, company officers conducted an accountability report to ensure all were safe and present while preparing for master streams. Over the next 90 minutes, crews applied copious amounts of water from ladder pipes and large diameter hand lines to drown out the blaze. Pockets of fire remained out of reach due to the style of construction and once the conditions improved enough, firefighters returned to an offensive mode. An official ‘knockdown’ was declared two hours and nine minutes into the incident. Firefighters defended a second building, exposed to the fire, from any damage.
One firefighter was transported with a heat-related illness and returned to full duty a short while later. LAFD Arson and Counter-Terrorism Section (ACTS) responded and are actively investigating the cause of the fire, following protocol for an incident of this size.

Early in the morning of Tuesday the 19th of April 1898 a fire broke out in the main intake of the Old Main or Upper Seam of the Whitwick Colliery whereby thirty-five persons lost their lives, of these persons the bodies of only nine have been recovered. The bodies of the remaining victims are still in the mine.
A fall had occurred about half way between No. 94 and No. 95 road ends, and at both roads there had been gob-fires. It was also in a part where all the coal had been worked away, and the strata above was more or less broken. The fires at the bottom of old No. 94 road had been quiescent for a long time, but the fires at old No. 95 and the immediate vicinity had given considerable trouble, and were a few yards beyond the place where the heavy fall occurred.
It will thus be seen that the part where the fire took place is about half-way between the junction of the roads where gob-fires existed, and had been dammed off.
I am of opinion that the heat from these gob-fires would materially assist in developing a gob-fire in any strata favourably situated, or inclined to develop spontaneous combustion, and that the area of their thermal activity would be in proportion to the broken nature of the strata, or the conductivity of the rocks forming such strata.

About the 1:1 version; The Gloster Southern Railroad (reporting mark GLSR) is a United States shortline railroad that operates in Mississippi and Louisiana. The GLSR began operation in 1990 and provides freight service from Gloster, Mississippi, to the Illinois Central Railroad (now Canadian National Railway - CN) interchange at Slaughter, Louisiana.
The line was owned by Georgia-Pacific (GP) which had purchased and refurbished 35 miles (56 km) of an abandoned branch line to provide service to a GP oakwood mill in Gloster. The GLSR operated four or five freight trains per week until the plant closed in December 2002. One year later, Genesee and Wyoming Inc acquired three short-line railroads from GP. However, this sale did not include the GLSR.
In September 2004, GP announced that they would re-open the Gloster oakwood mill. However, they did not continue to operate the GLSR. On January 6, 2008, a local railfan observed a Kansas City Southern Railway (KCS) train heading north through Lobdell, Louisiana. Behind the three KCS locomotives was a former GLSR CF7 locomotive which had its number boards covered with grey duct tape. The McComb Enterprise Journal reported on April 2, 2008, that the Georgia-Pacific Corporation is closing its railroad and that the town of Gloster was interested in the rail bed.[1]
The Gloster Southern Railroad applied to discontinue service on its entire line in December 2009,[2] and crews began removing the railway and roadbed. By June 2013, it was reported that all of the track had been moved and sold for recycle.

CANADA: a happy place
My essay is about Canada. In my essay, I will tell you about the place called Canada. There are probably many facts to be known about Canada.
Canada's historian is not sure exactly where the name of Canada came from, but he thinks it is either an Iroquois word meaning "proud nation of gravy" or an olde english word meaning "that mark left on the ground by a dried-up worm after a rainstorm". Not much is known about Canada because we only learn about it from ancient legends and Molson commercials, but I will tell you some of the fascinating things I have learned about this mysterious place.
Canada is the 14th planet from the sun. It has one small, self-important moon named 'Quebec'. Because the Canadian seasons are very long and there are 44 months of winter a year, nothing much ever happens there. However, the planet is rich in beaver, some of them growing up to 12 feet tall and taking political office. Canadian beavers are mostly friendly unless you pass them on the right on the highway. They are also very amorous and have been known to hump Canadian humans to death in an effort to reproduce very quickly in the waning days of summer, which last 17 hours on average. You cannot really blame them for that, as they just want to get their freak on.
The Canadian economy is based on loons, and therefore most Canadians cannot afford luxuries like socks, novelty beer-can hats, and pontoon boats. Only the Duke of Canada and some of the wealthiest beaver barons can afford to order a Crave Case from White Castle, but on the high holy days they will often bring home fish nibblers and chicken rings for the entire planet, and there will be dancing in the streets. Unfortunately, celebration has been much more subdued since the Slider Massacre of aught-four, when a giant herd of horny beavers stampeded in the streets of Vancouver, killing thousands. Since then, Canada has never been the same, eh.
