Reports have begun to surface that John Brennan, President Obama’s choice as CIA Director, secretly converted to Islam when he was studying in Saudi Arabia. So far, the news is based only on the unconfirmed testimony of one man. Regardless of whether the accusation is true, there are other things about Brennan that should give us pause to ask the title question.
In a nutshell, Brennan has a very soft stance on Iran, Hezbollah, Jihad, and terrorism in general.
In a 2010 speech before a group organized by the Council for American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), he responded to the following question: “We (Muslims) came to this country to enjoy freedom. We feel that since September 11, we aren’t enjoying these values anymore. Also, we feel that there’s a big lack of trust between Muslims’ community and our government. My question: “Is there anything being done by our government to rebuild this trust?”
John Brennan’s response? “The post 9/11 response of the Bush administration was a reaction some people might say was over the top in some areas. In an overabundance of caution we implemented a number of security measures and activities that, upon reflection, now we look back after the heat of the battle has died down a bit, we say they were excessive.” He also apologized for “ignorant feelings” of Americans who were outraged over the attack on the World Trade Center.
Nearly everything that John Brennan has said about Islamic terrorists Iran, and Hezbollah clarifies that his position is that we need to be more understanding. He has said that Hezbollah should no longer be considered a terrorist threat because it has become a political party.
With all due respect, Mr. Brennan, so are the Muslim Brotherhood . . . and Hamas . . . and the Palestinian Authority, all of which are fundamentally terrorist organizations trying to legitimize themselves by creating a political arm.
If the US government, foreign policy and intelligence service is going to follow this misguided choice, we are in for big trouble. Almost certainly, if Israel finds itself in a crisis where it needs immediate help, it may find itself waiting for Mr. Brennan to stop hugging his Muslim brothers and assuring Americans that we have no need to react. That could be disastrous for Israel.
It is difficult to keep up with the dynamics of these last days. We need to pray for Israel and for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6), and we need to pray for America to stay strongly and inseparably allied with Israel. Nonetheless, our hope is in the Lord (Jeremiah 17:7), because He is a friend who sticks closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24) and He will be there for Israel even though every nation forsakes her.

I have discovered that 1) I am good at bringing projects to 97.8% completion and then they marinate. Sometimes for months. 2) I knit a lot with green yarn.

On Monday Feb 7, 2011, Marie Stewart, Dale Swanberg and I went to Half Moon Bay to chase Alvaro Jaramillo's reported Iceland Gull. We saw Thayer's, and Glaucous-winged among the Westerns. There were a couple of immatures that were lighter birds but they were too big for Iceland Gull-- probable Glaucous. After finding the Palm Warbler across the street we headed down the highway towards Santa Cruz. At the highpoint of Hwy 1 a few miles North of Pescadero Marsh we pulled over and scanned the gulls flying by. There was a single very pale larg-ish gull that was standing on the beach 100 feet directly below us. The size was not discernible except by comparing it to the Western Gulls flying at eye level, 100+ feet above the lighter bird. Marie took many photos and will be happy to provide them to persons willing to gprovide ID help. Dale, Marie, and I are not familiar enough with the fine points of pale immature gulls to be sure of this ID. If you have time, maybe you can provide some input or feedback on what you think it may be, if it is not an Iceland Gull
Field marks observed by me, John Fulton, included size of bird approximately that of Western Gull, +/- 3inches.
Duration of observation was 15 minutes. Bird did not fly. It was resting, preening, stretching its wings, standing on the beach a couple of yards up from the wave reach. It did not leave or move from its spot directly below the cliff upon which we stood. Our view was of the dorsal features.
Wings were very light. Outer primaries had a thin line of minimal shading of slightly (barely) darker cream color along edges of inner webs, but there were absolutely no mirrors.
I observed that the white inner primaries showed a contrast with the outer secondaries (especially secondaries 1-5). I could not determin whether this was from a molting pattern or was an diagnostic specific character such as the actual true color pattern as found in the wings of raptors.
Bill was black on the top. I could not see the bill from the side to see if there was any color on the sides. By viewing the shadow of the bill upon the beach sand I estimate the bill size to be about the length of a Mew gull bill but thicker, from top to bottom. Lookin down from our position 100 feet above, the width of the bill was slender, from side to side. The bill had no discernible taper or bulge from the nares to the gonys.
Our collective guess at the time was that this was not the same bird seen by Alvaro Jaramillo but was a possible 2nd cycle Iceland (Kumlien's) Gull whose bill had not begun the transition of the Half Moon Bay bird to show color at the base of the bill. If this pattern of bill coloration begins on the ventral part of the bill or the nares are the last part to show color, this may be the same bird.
This location would be about 10-15 miles South of Alvaro's sighting.

The Murphy Report is the brief name of the report of an investigation conducted by government of Ireland into the Sexual abuse scandal in the Catholic archdiocese of Dublin. It was released in 2009, a few months after the report of the Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse (Ryan Report) chaired by Seán Ryan, a similar inquiry which dealt with abuses in industrial schools controlled by Roman Catholic religious institutes.
In October 2002, the television programme Prime Time broadcast a special report entitled Cardinal Secrets containing accounts of children abused by Catholic priests serving in the Archdiocese of Dublin, where complaints had been made at higher levels and effectively ignored, both by the church and by the national police force, the Garda Síochána (colloquially referred to as the "Garda" or the "gardaí", the latter word meaning "policemen"). This publicity led to the passage of the "Commission of Investigation Act 2004" mandating the establishment of a "Commission of Investigation, Dublin Archdiocese" to examine the manner in which allegations of sexual abuse of children by priests over the period 1975 to 2004 were dealt with by Church and State authorities. This act was implemented in March 2006. The Commission of Investigation has been headed by Judge Yvonne Murphy, a Circuit Court judge. The original brief was to report in 18 months, but such was the volume of evidence and allegations concerning the abusive behaviour of a sample batch of just 46 priests that time extensions had to be allowed.
