"Celebrate" is a Catholic family conference - though ecumenical in spirit - at which we are refreshed by good Christian teaching and enjoy one another's company.

I think that we were repenting of our grumpiness and other wrong-doing at this point!

Redemption...... This wall, at a festival last summer, was used by the festival go'ers as a urinal on the way to another stage. The smell was pudrid. For some obscene reason I wanted to capure this area and at first wanted to show the boggy like area along the edge of the wall. On giving up saw this kid... England shirt, urinating and then the words Redemtion...

I'm glad it's not "Use the correct preposition or burn". That could have been messy! Korinna and I spotted this pronouncer of doom on our way to Cici's Pizza. Wackos don't usually inhabit the streets of Spring, or at least not when I lived here. Maybe things have changed for the better!

Tinha quase certeza. [Caio F.]

Sin cannot be removed by good deeds. (Gen 4-Mal 4)

This is to represent that sin cannot be removed by good deeds. You can sin and sin and sin, and they do good things as many times, but that won't remove your sin from you. You must ask God for forgiveness, and repentance. To repent is to ask for forgiveness, and change, not do it again. It's not just doing it again after you ask for that forgiveness.

This is supposed to represent repentance. But I don't think that I like it. I'm going to play around with it some more, and try to make it work.

(I ran outside in the rain to do this, hoping that the rain would make me all wet, and it would add to the picture. Too bad the rain wasn't coming down hard enough, and just came out as dots. Oh well, I guess. heh. My neighbor that used to cut my hair drove by, and I could see her laughing. It made me laugh. Yes, this was in fact fun to shoot. Too bad it didn't turn out all that well...)

The church of St Lawrence, Eyam is medieval with elements from the 13th and 15th centuries.

Eyam is a small village in Derbyshire.

Lying between Buxton and Chesterfield it is just north of Bakewell in the Peak District. Typically rural, most of its population were farmers. In the early 1660s it did not stand apart from any of the other numerous villages that lined the trade routes from London to the rest of England. And yet in 1665 Eyam became one of the most significant villages in England. The actions of its 800 inhabitants had far reaching and important consequences for the development of treatment of the plague.

1665-6 was the last major epidemic of the plague to occur in England. As was normal the plague concentrated in London. The movement of the rich alongside the normal trade patterns of England meant that the great plague spread quickly across the country. Rural areas that may previously have been safe from the diseases of urban areas were also exposed. The plague arrived in Eyam in late August 1665. It came in a parcel of cloth sent from London to the village tailor Alexander Hadfield. When Hadfield’s assistant George Viccars spread the cloth out by the fire to air, he found it was infested with rat fleas. He died a few days later with his burial being recorded in the parish registers on 7th September 1665.

Spread by infected fleas from small animals, the bacteria enters the skin through a flea bite and travels via the lymphatic system to a lymph node causing it to swell. This causes the characteristic buboes which typically appeared under the arm but could surface in the neck or groin area also. Combined with the black bruising under the surface of the skin, fever, vomiting and spasms, the plague was a truly terrifying disease that spread with a startling ferocity.

People of the 17th Century believed in numerous theories regarding the origins of the plague. Most believed that it was a punishment sent by God for the sins of the world. People sought forgiveness through prayer and by repenting for their sins. Eyam, a small village in the north, acted in a unique way. Their intention was to act decisively and prevent the spread of disease.

The Church’s dominance in the 17th Century was still supreme, even after the religious roller-coaster of the Tudor period. The local Reverends were pillars of the community, often the most educated people in the village. Eyam had two Reverends. Thomas Stanley had been dismissed from his official post for refusing to take the Oath of Conformity and use the Common Book of Prayer. His replacement, Reverend William Mompesson had worked in the village for a year. Aged 28, Mompesson lived in the rectory with his wife Catherine and their two small children. Both highly educated, it was the actions of Stanley and Mompesson that resulted in the outbreak of plague in Eyam being contained to the village and not spreading to the nearby city of Sheffield.

My Friend: I am asking you the most important question of life. Your joy or your sorrow for all eternity

depends upon your answer. The question is: Are you saved? It is not a question of how good you are, nor if

you are a church member, but are you saved? Are you sure you will go to Heaven when you die?

God says in order to go to Heaven, you must be born again. In John 3:7, Jesus said to Nicodemus, “Ye must be

born again.”

In the Bible God gives us the plan of how to be born again which means to be saved. His plan is simple! You

can be saved today. How?

First, my friend, you must realize you are a sinner. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”

(Romans 3:23).

Because you are a sinner, you are condemned to death. “For the wages [payment] of sin is death” (Romans

6:23). This includes eternal separation from God in Hell.

“ . . . it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27).

But God loved you so much He gave His only begotten Son, Jesus, to bear your sin and die in your place.

“ . . . He hath made Him [Jesus, Who knew no sin] to be sin for us . . . that we might be made the righteousness

of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:21).

Jesus had to shed His blood and die. “For the life of the flesh is in the blood” (Lev. 17:11). “ . . . without

shedding of blood is no remission [pardon]” (Hebrews 9:22).

“ . . . God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

(Romans 5:8).

Although we cannot understand how, God said my sins and your sins were laid upon Jesus and He died in our

place. He became our substitute. It is true. God cannot lie.

My friend, “God . . . commandeth all men everywhere to repent” (Acts 17:30). This repentance is a change of

mind that agrees with God that one is a sinner, and also agrees with what Jesus did for us on the Cross.

In Acts 16:30-31, the Philippian jailer asked Paul and Silas: “ . . . ‘Sirs, what must I do to be saved?’ And they

said, ‘Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved . . . .’ ”

Simply believe on Him as the one who bore your sin, died in your place, was buried, and whom God

resurrected. His resurrection powerfully assures that the believer can claim everlasting life when Jesus is

received as Savior.

“But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe

on His name” (John 1:12).

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13).

Whosoever includes you. Shall be saved means not maybe, nor can, but shall be saved.

Surely, you realize you are a sinner. Right now, wherever you are, repenting, lift your heart to God in prayer.

In Luke 18:13, the sinner prayed: “God be merciful to me a sinner.” Just pray: “Oh God, I know I am a sinner.

I believe Jesus was my substitute when He died on the Cross. I believe His shed blood, death, burial, and

resurrection were for me. I now receive Him as my Savior. I thank You for the forgiveness of my sins, the gift

of salvation and everlasting life, because of Your merciful grace. Amen.”

Just take God at His word and claim His salvation by faith. Believe, and you will be saved. No church, no

lodge, no good works can save you. Remember, God does the saving. All of it!

God’s simple plan of salvation is: You are a sinner. Therefore, unless you believe on Jesus Who died in your

place, you will spend eternity in Hell. If you believe on Him as your crucified, buried, and risen Savior, you

receive forgiveness for all of your sins and His gift of eternal salvation by faith.

You say, “Surely, it cannot be that simple.” Yes, that simple! It is scriptural. It is God’s plan. My friend, believe

on Jesus and receive Him as Savior today.

If His plan is not perfectly clear, read this tract over and over, without laying it down, until you understand

it. Your soul is worth more than all the world.

“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul?” (Mark 8:36).

Be sure you are saved. If you lose your soul, you miss Heaven and lose all. Please! Let God save you this very

moment.

God’s power will save you, keep you saved, and enable you to live a victorious Christian life. “There hath no

temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, Who will not suffer you to be tempted

above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it” (1

Corinthians 10:13).

Do not trust your feelings. They change. Stand on God’s promises. They never change. After you are saved,

there are three things to practice daily for spiritual growth:

Pray -- you talk to God.

Read your Bible -- God talks to you.

Witness -- you talk for God.

You should be baptized in obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ as a public testimony of your salvation, and

then unite with a Bible-believing church without delay. “Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of

our Lord . . . .” (2 Timothy 1:8)

“Whosoever therefore shall confess [testify of] Me before men, him will I confess also before My Father which

is in heaven” (Matthew 10:32).

De repente,

cuando despierto en la mañana

me acuerdo de mí,

con sigilo abro los ojos

y procedo a vestirme.

Lo primero es colocarme mi gesto

de persona decente.

En seguida me pongo las buenas

Costumbres, el amor

filial, el decoro, la moral,

la fidelidad conyugal:

para el final dejo los recuerdos.

Lavo con primor

mi cara de buena ciudadana

visto mi tan deteriorada esperanza,

me meto entre la boca las palabras,

cepillo la bondad

y me la pongo de sombrero

y en los ojos

esta mirada tan amable.

Entre el armario selecciono las ideas

que hoy quiero lucir

y sin perder más tiempo

me las meto en la cabeza.

Finalmente

me calzo los zapatos

y echo a andar.

I don't think this image needs much of an explanation. As a photographer, I was drawn to the ironic juxtaposition of the banner and the parade participants. So far as I could tell, everyone was ignoring this guy completely.

Free Presbyterian Minister The Rev Ian Brown reads from his bible as the Foyle Pride festival makes its way past him on Duke Street - Derry/Londonderry on Saturday Afternoon. It was the City's first Gay Pride Festival. Rev Brown was joined by local Newbuildings Minister Rev. Jonathan Campbell who has in the past declared The Banks Of The Foyle Hallowe'en Festival an act of Devil Worship, Claimed that "the Devil Did It" and that it was a punishment, when talking about the Haiti Disaster and congratulated Derry City Council on its fabulous Christmas Lighting, even though most other people would agree that the ancient lights are sparce and amongst the worst in the Western World.

Maybe we'll get new ones as UK City Of Culture. I hear that you put your name on a list and Blackpool gives you their old illuminations when your turn comes - Has to be worth a punt !!
