mating tiger bee flies on a deck chair
This was taken with my first digital camera, and it was the wrong one for insects, or at least the wrong one for macro shots. But I liked the patterns on this chair, and I liked the pattern the mating insects made, and I saw a good chance to combine both patterns in one shot. I'd love to get another go at mating bee flies, but I don't see them where I live now.

I have often used hidden elements but haven't done one in a while- today this story freaked me out and I just had to scrap it right away...weird, huh?

When I met up with Gilly last Friday for my photography tutorial, one of the (many) ideas she gave me to keep up the momentum of my project was to give myself themes.
After 9 months of trying to find different things to snap, I must admit some days I really struggle to think of something new and resort to my usual 'go to' of a flower macro.
So this week I have the self appointed theme of 'repeating patterns'. I may take them this week, I may find them archived from another time. I might not do it all week. Who knows. It's safely established that I'm not a fan of hard and fast rules. We'll just see how it goes.

This is the roof of an old shack that I have photographed before. I love its textures. I couldn't decide how to crop this but ended up leaving some sky in to give context.

The repeating diamond motif in this stole is like the simple leaded glass windows popular in Tudor England. The trend away from intricate stained glass was a turn toward simplicity common to the Protestant Reformation.
Repeating flash exposure. SB-800 on camera. I tried many different shutter lengths and repeating sequences. Please comment on which one you like best, one will be entered into a bikes with lights contest.
Flash settings best I can remember(at work) 1/8 power at 2hz at 9 count.
I noticed that the original image formed a repeating pattern (or close enough) so I made a montage as a test. Color variant.
The Madrona gardens contain some of the raw material used in the restaurant. This is an image created from one of the succulent plants in their garden.
A good example of how the plantings almost look thrown; as if you thrust your arm in buckets of different colored paints, and whirled them over the garden. All still young here, just settling in over the first several months.
