I've decided to make a collection of my favorite recipes: the kind of things that are definite hits worth repeating, not just one-time so-so dinners.

Whenever I make something, Lester always says it's good. I know it's really a hit, though, when he doesn't just say it's good, he says "You've definitely got to make this again."

This is one of the first things I ever made for him. He was flipping through my low-carb cookbook, saw these chicken fingers, and couldn't believe they could be healthy because "that's something I'd actually like!" Not only are they low carb, but low fat and low cal (other than the dressing) because the chicken is baked and seasoned only with hot sauce and spices. I like them because they dress up real nice with the peppers, and it's relatively simple. Plus, since the chicken fingers have to marinate, you can do the dirty work in advance and get things cleaned up well before dinner time.

Here's the recipe, from The Low-Carb Bible.

Buffalo chicken tenders

3 tablespoons Louisiana-style hot sauce

1/2 teaspoon paprika

1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper

1 pound chicken cut up or pre-cut chicken tenders

1/2 cup blue cheese dressing

1/4 cup sour cream

2 tablespoons crumbled blue cheese

1 medium red bell pepper, cut into slices

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine hot sauce, paprika and ground red pepper in a bowl; brush on all surfaces of checken. Place chicken in a greased 11x7-inch baking dish. Cover; marinate in refrigerator for 30 minutes.

2. Bake, uncovered, about 15 minutes or until chicken is no longer pink in center.

3. Combine blue cheese dressing, sour cream and blue cheese in a small serving bowl. Garnish as desired. Serve with chicken and bell pepper for dipping.

Shortcut: Save time and money by using chunky blue cheese dressing or premade blue cheese dip.

Repeating patterns are always of interest, but add in some bright colors and this setup really caught my eye. In the Bluff View Arts District in Chattanooga, TN.

They were standing, sitting, pacing and repeating the same actions in such an unusual and mysterious way, that they caught my eye and probably you would have noticed also.

There were posters hung on the back of a bench.

Were they campaign volunteers for a candidate in some upcoming local or national election?

But, they looked unhappy, solemn, and distraught. They were parents, looking for anyone to hear their story.

For Assignment 52-112012 - Repeating pattern Abstracts

I saw this at a local tea garden, the concrete table had a surface of mosaic patterns, covered over with glass which created reflections. I thought it made a super abstract anomaly!

The Milwaukee Art Museum has many interesting architectural details. Even the parking garage repeats the patterns found in other parts of the building. The pattern you see here is also visible in the first floor hallways.

My sister is a collector. She's arty, creative, visionary and quirky. Her house is decorated with all things retro and vintage. Everywhere you look there are interesting bits and bobs that she has picked up or created. This scene is from one of her living areas. I picked this because pattern is repeated so well here. Behind this are large windows that allow you to look out over her deck, tall poplar trees, back paddock, gardens and the river. It's a sun trap and one of my favorite places to sit and ponder.

Iteration or repetition of a subject makes for good composition. Look for a repeating pattern today and make a photo.

This shot fulfills requirement 4: repeating patterns. Shot upward from the bottom of this building, the repeating window patterns vanishes on the far end of horizon, creating a conceptual and minimalistic shot. I used a relatively high aperture and shutter speed at f/9, 1/160, and low ISO100 to decrease the brightness of both the sky and the reflective building. I also desaturated and increased whiteness in PS, for structural and contrast emphasis.

I recently attended a workshop at the Scranton Lace Factory with Matthew Christopher from www.abandonedamerica.us/ . Fascinating place.

The repeating elements of this scene really gives a cool sense of infinite-ness.
