Can you relate to this? As soon as mom comes home the kids mouths go wide open and say, “What’s for dinner?” No sooner does the mom get some food in them and they are screaming for more. So off she goes again.

I believe that is a moth that she is preparing to feed into those open chick mouths inside.

There is more of the wren story here.

Every year, Realtors® Care Day offers a helping hand to homeowners in need by providing exterior home repairs and adaptive safety modifications. Regional Habitat for Humanity chapters, the City of Charlotte, and other housing partners identify homeowners who qualify for the program.

Last month, realtors and City of Charlotte Code Enforcement volunteers joined forces to make a meaningful difference in Charlotte neighborhoods. They performed various tasks such as cleaning gutters, landscaping, repairing stairs, and enhancing exterior areas. We express our gratitude for their hard work and dedication.

@ Nick's Practice Room. Dec 30th. 2010

A few more furnitures and accessory for my Rolleiflex 3.5F (see below for details relate d to the camera) with a couple of old-fashioned carbon-zinc 22.5V batteries from China to test the Rolleiflash and a close-up accessory Rolleinar 1 (1 diopter) in the correct bayonet dimension (RII) suitable for the Rolleiflex 3.5F with Zeiss Planar lens or Schneider-Kreuznach Xenotar 1:3.5 f=75mm.

There are 3 different filter bayonet sizes on the Rolleiflex (RI, RII, and RIII) and one should check that both optical pieces are of the correct same dimension before buying. The Rolleinar 1 permit the focusing of the Rolleiflex between 1m and 0.47m instead of the normal minimum focusing distance of 0.9m. The parallax for Heidosmat viewing lens is corrected with an integrated prism that should correctly positioned with a red dot directed up. The Rolleinar came with its original Rollei Francke & Heidecke branded leather case.

The Rolleiflash type-2 is the original one that came with the camera. It mounts to the viewing lens bayonet and is also of the correct type RII. Rolleiflashes exist also in other bayonet dimension. At now, I just tested the circuity continuation with the battery in place and also with a flash bulb mounted. When pressing the test button a small light flashes on the control window. Next step will to fire a bulb...

About the camera :

I got this stunning Rolleiflex 3.5F from a French artist near Paris, France. The camera came in it original box and leather bag with accessories and a reference book year 1955. The whole kit is in an exceptional state of conservation.

The Rolleiflex 3.5F is the model-3, or "K4F",that Rollei-Werke Franke & Heidecke produced in 50.000 units in Germany from Nov.1960 to Dec. 1964. The Rolleiflex originates from 1928 for the very first model and was produced still in a limited number until the years 2000’s. The 3.5F model 3 was available etheir with a Schneider-Kreuznak Xenotar taking lens or the Call Zeiss Planar 1:3.5 f=75mm as this camera. The Rolleiflex, that was a quality reference for many professional photographers in the 50’s for the medium-format 6X6 camera’s. Many worked both with the Leica M3 (starting from 1954) as small-format 24x36mm camera and the Rolleiflex for other appliances. The Rolleiflex remained one of the most iconic and trusted camera of all the times.

This specific 3.5F is labelled on the right side with nice badge made of enameled brass « T » « Telos » that was the exclusive first French importer of Rollei to France until 1972.

The Rolleiflex 3,5 F model 3 is equipped with the Synchro-Compur central shutter MXV CR00 with cone-wheel differential. The distance scale is only in meters here with automatic DOF indication.

Serial number with ‘3,5F’ prefix on of top name shield.

I detailed the camera and accessories and studied carefully the user manual and the book to before familiar this beauty before waiting for a quiet moment to prepare for a test film. I will not trust the old leather original neck strap to carry this precious machine on the field to avoid the real risk to drop the camera. I ordered a new one from a manufacturer in China.

Taken from Route 48 just east of the tourist destination of Arachova.

Uh-oh. This guy is about to relate geology to the built environment again. All good professional geologists, the kind with higher reductionist degrees who want to keep their sacred subject pure and untainted by nonscientific aspects of human culture, should stop reading and exit this post now.

Here’s a softball question. What do the ancient site of Delphi, the modern town of Delphi, and Arachova all have in common?

Well, one answer, easily ascertained on Google Earth, is that they all lie along Greece’s National Road 48. And another is that they all sit on the southern flank of the Parnassus Massif. And yet another is that they’re all perched on the edge of the vertiginous Pleistos River Gorge.

Actually, the last two answers lead to still one more. The reason they’re on the boundary of massif and gorge is that they lie along what has been described as a “major active fault” (see the Piccardi et al. reference, below). That fault has been one of the mechanisms allowing the southern section of the crust to drop down relative to the northern.

In fact, the fault is one of many local manifestations of the extensional tectonics that have dominated the region since the Miocene epoch (23-5 Ma ago). While Parnassus itself is a nappe that was pushed over preexisting crust during the compressional phase that existed before the Miocene, the Pleistos Gorge and its bordering faults are part of the larger extensional rifting that includes the much larger Corinth Gulf nearby.

The Arachova-Delphi-Amphissa Fault, the one I’ve been talking about, is a normal fault that has already produced some notable earthquakes—which is one reason a lot of the Delphi archaeological complex looks like a collection of giant children’s building blocks spilled out on the ground

But then the Mediterranean Basin is undoubtedly one of the best places on Earth to perceive that Homo sapiens has never shied away from building towns and even supersized cities like Istanbul on or dangerously near very nasty fault zones. (Of course, another place to see this is San Francisco.)

Still, one has to realize that the settlement of these very populated places began long before geologists were on hand to map and understand the structural makeup of the rock beneath. And even highly visible geologic hazards like volcanoes weren’t really understood to be "fire mountains” until pyroclastic surges erupting from them turned the locals into Roman candles. (Here I’m thinking especially of AD 79 in the Gulf of Naples.)

As usual, our species, manifestly quite insapiens, just puts down its stakes wherever it damn well wants to, and then, decades or centuries later, it realizes how potentially disastrous Home Sweet Home really is. And then it rationalizes away the danger until the Dies Irae finally arrives.

Not that I’m predicting doom for Arachova, necessarily. It’s a very pretty town and I encourage you to visit it and sample its famous Formaella cheese and its black Mavroudi wine.

And, if you are geologically inclined, you can marvel at the striking, ocher-colored Parnassus Flysch visible in this photo at lower right. It dates to the Paleocene and Eocene epochs, whereas the Parnassus carbonate units higher up—look for the heavily jointed gray rock up above the town—dates to the Mesozoic.

So that means I am once again writing in a Greek context about older rock sitting on top of younger rock. This interesting inversion of the natural, layer-cake order is remindful of Athens’s Acropolis klippe. But in this case a whole nappe has flipped over on itself, rather than just pushing up over another, more ancient piece of real estate.
