Common Buzzard - Buteo Buteo
The common buzzard (Buteo buteo) is a medium-to-large bird of prey whose range covers most of Europe and extends into Asia. Over much of its range, it is resident year-round, but birds from the colder parts of the Northern Hemisphere typically migrate south (some well into the Southern Hemisphere) for the northern winter.
This broad-winged raptor has a wide variety of plumages, and in Europe can be confused with the similar rough-legged buzzard (Buteo lagopus) and the distantly related European honey buzzard (Pernis apivorus), which mimics the common buzzard's plumage for a degree of protection from northern goshawks. The plumage can vary in Britain from almost pure white to black, but is usually shades of brown, with a pale 'necklace' of feathers.
Of the two eastern subspecies, B. b. vulpinus breeds from east Europe eastward to the Far East (including Eastern China and South Asia), excluding Japan, while B. b. menetriesi breeds in the Southern Crimea and Caucasus to northern Iran. B. b. vulpinus is a long-distance migrant, excepting some north Himalayan birds, and winters in Africa, India and southeastern Asia. In the open country favoured on the wintering grounds, steppe buzzards are often seen perched on roadside telephone poles.
The common buzzard breeds in woodlands, usually on the fringes, but favours hunting over open land. It eats mainly small mammals, and will come to carrion. A great opportunist, it adapts well to a varied diet of pheasant, rabbit, other small mammals to medium mammals, snakes and lizards, and can often be seen walking over recently ploughed fields looking for worms and insects.[citation needed] When available, common buzzards feed on their preferred prey species, field voles Microtus agrestis, in relation to their abundance. When the abundance of field voles decline, common buzzards switch to foraging on a diversity of prey items typical of farmland habitats.

A glimpse into Chinese aesthetics and their relation with nature: a lot of geometric components in round and square motifs.
On the four edges of the square opening to the left and around the window panes on the right, the lines there as a whole denote clouds from the sky; and the curving ridge of the roof-- unlike those Gothic cathedrals pointing right into heaven-- reminds us instead of the curving fingers of Indian and court dancers.
They opened up and were very close to nature despite the fact that it rains and even snows there in winter. Other than planting trees and bamboos ( here just above the square opening on the left ) in their courtyards, they preferred bare stones from mother nature as art pieces ( in the case here, one on each side of the chamber on the right ) something that Japan has taken up to a certain extent...

But there used to be a time when this word was standing for use only for books. And this is how our tiny little helpers still use it in their little world. A nice Dragon brass bookmark is a great place for my tiny friend to sit down, relax and read for a little while. :)

Not far away, on a parapet with a privileged view, there was a curious black crow that seemed to observe all the movements that the Queen Elyandhyn made.
She had already seen him, but pretended that she hadn't noticed, since she was a child, she had no sympathy for those animals with piercing eyes and black feathers with metallic blue reflections. But what was strange is that lately it was not the first time that she had seen crows in the old palace although they were rare - I have new secret admirers, she thought as she smiled.

Started with an old photo of mine from June of 2017 and used normal oil painting effect at 50%. Then decorated using Adobe photoshop express Mandala stickers MA13. Wikipedia helped me understand that the Mandala in art is a cosmic diagram showing relation to the infinite and the world that extends beyond and within various minds and bodies. Finished with a fine scarlet border.

Im Mai und Juni dieses Jahres gab es größere Bauarbeiten zwischen Minden und Wunstorf. Dies hatte zur Folge, dass der Großteil des Güterverkehrs auf der Ost-West Route andere Wege nehmen musste, um die Baustelle zu umfahren. So bekam die landschaftlich reizvolle Natobahn von Minden nach Nienburg zeitweise mehr Güterverkehr zusehen. Die Züge in der Relation von Minden Richtung Hannover befuhren dafür die Natobahn bis Nienburg, wo dann ein Fahrtrichtungswechsel stattfand. Von dort aus ging es dann über Neustadt am Rübenberge nach Wunstorf, wo der eigentliche Regelweg wieder erreicht wurde. In der Relation von Ost nach West wurde es ebenso praktiziert.
Also entschieden David und ich, dass wir an Pfingstsonntag der Natobahn einen Besuch abstatten und unser Glück versuchen. Natürlich war uns klar, dass an Pfingsten nicht so viel los sein würde, aber zeitlich bekamen wir es halt anders nicht gebacken. Unter dem Strich war der Tag nicht wirklich ergiebig, denn bis auf einen Bauzug gegen Mittag, ließ sich kein Zug bis zum Abend passend auf der Natobahn blicken. Auch unser Wechsel an die Strecke Hannover - Bremen ergab nichts, weshalb wir gegen Abend wieder an die Natobahn zurückfuhren. Nachdem wir dort noch zwei Fotostellen inspiziert hatten, wollten wir uns auf den Heimweg machen. In Minden wollten wir noch einen Zwischenstopp einlegen und eine Kleinigkeit essen. Kurz vor Minden vernahmen wir dann akustisch, dass just in dem Moment ein Güterzug die Natobahn herunterkam. Der Frust war groß, aber aufgeben wollten wir dann doch noch nicht. Also wurde das Essen eingepackt und auf Maps ein Bahnübergang zwischen Minden und Päpinghausen gefunden und angesteuert. Die Stelle an dem unbeschrankten Bahnübergang sagte uns direkt zu und das Licht stand bereits herrlich tief für Nordfahrer Richtung Nienburg. Doch auch hier tat sich sehr lange gar nichts. Wir waren gerade im Begriff unsere Brocken einzupacken, da vernahm ich aus Richtung Minden ein akustisches Rauschen und kurz darauf tauchte in der Ferne ein Spitzenlicht auf. Es war Akiem/Captrain 187 013 mit Eaos und Falns am Hacken, die um 20:27 Uhr unseren Standpunkt in Richtung Nienburg passierte.

193 296 bespannte Anfang des Monats einen Eurocity von Berlin nach Tschechien. Im schönen Elbtal kam die Sonne rechtzeitig raus und der schöne Zug konnte abgepasst werden. Die EC sind einige der wenigen Relationen auf denen Siemens Vectrons im Schnellzugdienst zum Einsatz kommen.
...Vergangenen Sommer sollte es Mal ins Allgäu gehen. Eins der Ziele dabei war der IC2012 aus Oberstdorf nach Dortmund Hbf. Bei Martinszell konnte der Zug bespannt mit 218 476 und 218 456 kurz vor dem nächsten halt Kempten (Allgäu) Hbf abgelichtet werden. Kurz darauf folgte der EC191 mit 218 430. Diese Relation läuft jedoch anders als der IC nicht mehr über die Allgäubahn, sondern via Memmingen. Und auch die 218 hat vor den EC ausgedient, ersetzt wurde sie durch SBB ETR610

Finalement il a semblé prendre du mieux
et il a fini par prendre son envol.

I went out to see and saw the bird on the ground,
I took it in my hand, I stroked it
whistled him a happy melody and encouraged him

The red panda has no relation to the giant panda even though both are indigenous to China, often inhabit the same territory, and both have evolved to feed on bamboo.

The red panda (Ailurus fulgens), also known as the lesser panda, is a small mammal native to the eastern Himalayas and southwestern China. It has dense reddish-brown fur with a black belly and legs, white-lined ears, a mostly white muzzle and a ringed tail. Its head-to-body length is 51–63.5 cm (20.1–25.0 in) with a 28–48.5 cm (11.0–19.1 in) tail, and it weighs between 3.2 and 15 kg (7.1 and 33.1 lb). It is well adapted to climbing due to its flexible joints and curved semi-retractile claws. The red panda was formally described in 1825. The two recognised subspecies, the Himalayan and the Chinese red panda, genetically diverged about 250,000 years ago. The red panda's place on the evolutionary tree has been debated, but modern genetic evidence places it in close affinity with raccoons, weasels, and skunks. It is not closely related to the giant panda, which is a bear, though both possess elongated wrist bones or "false thumbs" used for grasping bamboo. The evolutionary lineage of the red panda (Ailuridae) stretches back around 25 to 18 million years ago, as indicated by extinct fossil relatives found in Eurasia and North America. The red panda inhabits coniferous forests as well as temperate broadleaf and mixed forests, favoring steep slopes with dense bamboo cover close to water sources. It is solitary and largely arboreal. Am sonnigen 20. Februar 2026 nutzte ich das schöne Wetter und konnte u.A. die Beacon Rail ER20-015 mit RE 74176 nach Chemnitz auf dem Göhrener Viadukt fotografieren.
Nu de nieuwe akku-treinstellen van de MRB hun intrede op de lijn Leipzig - Chemnitz hebben gedaan, verdwijnen de diesellocs uit de serie 223 met dubbeldeks binnenkort. Op 20 februari 2026 speelde het weer mee en kon ik o.a. de Beacon Rail ER20-015 met RE 74176 naar Chemnitz op de bekende brug te Göhren fotograferen.

On February 20th 2026 I was in Göhren and managed to get a shot of Beacon Rail engine ER20-015, crossing the famous bridge with regional train 74176 from Leipzig to Chemnitz.
On the morning of September 1, we cruised up Tracy Arm fjord in Alaska. The nearly full moon was at a perfect level in relation to the snowy peaks.
In with the new year. No resolutions, no expectations. Hopefully some photos. We shall see.

Bereits zur Zeit der Römer war die Relation durch das Rohrachtal zwischen Geislingen und Amstetten ein bedeutender Handelsweg, welcher über die Jahrhunderte weiter an Bedeutung gewann.
Mit der Eisenbahn aber, kam ein neuer Verkehrsträger zum Vorschein, welcher für die damalige Zeit bahnbrechend schnell und zuverlässig Personen und Güter von A nach B brachte.
So war es nur eine Frage der Zeit und der Planung, wie die Schwäbische Alb zwischen Stuttgart und Ulm, überwunden werden konnte.
1850 war es dann schließlich soweit, die Eisenbahn brachte nun Güter und Personen zuverlässig über die Alb.
Der steilste Abschnitt war dabei der ca. 5 Kilometer lange Teil zwischen Geislingen und Amstetten.
Bis in die Gegenwart hat sich dabei der Einsatz der Schiebelokomotiven gehalten, welcher früher primär dem Einsatz der Dampflokomotiven unterlag.
Seit der Elektrifizierung 1933 wurde der Einsatz der Schiebelokomotiven zwar weniger, aber hält bis in die Gegenwart an.
Anfangs zu Dampflokzeiten von Württembergischen T3, T4, K vertreten, änderte sich seit 1933 der Einsatz zu Elektrolokomotiven, wie die E93 und E94. Gefolgt von den Einheitslokomitoven, kamen/kommen bis in die 2020er Jahre 151er und in der Gegenwart die 185er zum Einsatz.
In der Gegenwart werden nur noch wenige Güter und Personenzüge nachgeschoben, aber bilden immernoch das täglich Brot für die TRAXX von DB Cargo in Geislingen.
Gerne kam zu Zeiten, als der IC118/119/2012/2013 nur mit einer 218 fuhr der Nachschiebeeinsatz auch an Fernzügen zum Einsatz. Wer mehr dazu wissen möchte: hier entlang: de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geislinger_Steige
Der hochwertige Fernverkehr war seit Tag 1 der Geislinger Steige zudem ein wichtiges Rückgrat.
So war die Baureihe 103, sowie die Vorserien E03 001 bestimmt nicht zum ersten Mal am 28.06.2025 auf der 22,5‰ steilen Strecke anzutreffen.
Zur Feier des 175 jährigen Jubiläums gab es neben Dampf-Pendelfahrten, auch die E03 001, welche mit einer Rheingold-Garnitur zwischen Stuttgart und Ulm pendelte.
Am 29.06.2025 zog die E03 001 den D339 vom Ulm nach Stuttgart gegen kurz nach 17 Uhr ihren authentischen Reisezug im Stil der 1970er Jahre die Steige hinab, zum nächsten halt am großen Bahnhofsfest in Geislingen. Dort konnte neben einer Taufe eines Flirt von Arverio auf "Geislingen an der Steige" neben Snacks, Lokomotiven und musikalischer Unterhaltung auch das Stellwerk, sowie vieles mehr besichtigt werden. An der Stelle vielen Dank an alle, die das Wochenende zu dem gemacht haben, was es war!
Einige Hobbykollegen wurden im rechten Bildrand entfernt.
Noch gibt es lokbespannte Fernzüge bei der Deutschen Bahn, deren Zeit läuft jedoch unweigerlich ab. Eines ihrer letzten Refugien ist die Relation aus Südwestdeutschland in Richtung Kärnten und Steiermark. Am 07. Mai 2023 konnte ich an der ehemaligen Blockstelle Hilperting die 101 024 mit dem EC 217 nach Graz fotografieren. Wenn man sich verdeutlicht, dass der jüngste Wagen im Zugverband auch schon 35 Jahre im Einsatz steht, wird klar, dass es Zeit für die Ablösung durch modernere Fahrzeuge ist.
Locomotive-hauled long-distance trains still exist on Deutsche Bahn, but their time is inevitably running out. One of their last refuges is the relation from southwest Germany towards Carinthia and Styria. On 07 May 2023, I was able to photograph 101 024 with EC 217 to Graz at the former Hilperting block station. When you realize that the youngest car in the train set has also been in service for 35 years, it becomes clear that it is time to replace it with more modern vehicles.
Seit dem Winterfahrplanwechsel 2023/2024 ist die Relation Hof - München wieder in der Hand von DB Regio. Zum Einsatz kommen dabei Doppelstockwagen, die auf dem Abschnitt Regensburg - Hof von der Baureihe 218 gezogen werden. Wer hätte das im Jahre 2024 gedacht. Das Teilstück Regensburg - München wird von meist von einer Baureihe 146 gefahren. Oft genug mischt hier jedoch die Baureihe 111 mit und fährt einige Umläufe. Durch den Fahrtrichtungswechsel in Regensburg wird regelmäßig Lok vor Steuerwagen gefahren, was dafür sorgt, das viele neue Perspektiven Lichttechnisch möglich sind. Am Abend des 24. September war 111 062, die noch ihre alten Scherenstromabnehmer besitzt auf dem RE2 unterwegs. Nachdem sie den RE4860 nach Regensburg brachte, übernahm sie von 218 423 den RE4865. Im klaren Abendlicht konnte sie von mir kurz hinter Pulling bei Freising aufgenommen werden.

Der München–Nürnberg-Express – eine Relation, die die beiden bayerischen Metropolen stündlich miteinander verbindet. Das Konzept wurde über viele Jahre mit ehemaligen Intercity-Wagen von DB Fernverkehr betrieben – oder besser gesagt: betrieben werden sollte.
Mit dem Fahrplanwechsel im Dezember 2016 schien das Schicksal dieser Garnituren besiegelt. Für diesen Zeitpunkt waren die neu bestellten Škoda-Wendezüge vorgesehen, gezogen von der Baureihe 102, die den altgedienten Wendezug endgültig ablösen sollten. Doch wie so oft kam es anders: Technische Probleme, Zulassungsverzögerungen und Kinderkrankheiten sorgten dafür, dass sich die Inbetriebnahme um mehrere Jahre verzögerte. Erst Ende 2020 bzw. im Laufe des Jahres 2021 nahmen die neuen Garnituren schrittweise den Betrieb auf. Für den alten „MÜNEX“ schien damit endgültig Schluss zu sein.
Doch auch hier bewahrheitete sich einmal mehr das Motto: „Legends never die.“
Die Škoda-Garnituren erwiesen sich als äußerst störanfällig und litten unter massiver Unzuverlässigkeit. Infolge dessen griff man 2024 erneut auf bewährtes Material zurück und reaktivierte eine klassische MÜNEX-Garnitur. Zwar waren die originalen MÜNEX-Wagen inzwischen größtenteils zum IRE 200 nach Ulm abgewandert, doch DB Regio ließ mehrere Wagen erneut im ursprünglichen MÜNEX-Design lackieren. So wurde der München–Nürnberg-Express mit zunächst einer Garnitur wiederbelebt – eine zweite soll in Zukunft perspektivisch folgen.
An einem kalten Dezembermorgen organisierten ein Kollege und ich schließlich eine Fahrradtour nach Vierkirchen, um genau diese außergewöhnliche Kombination festzuhalten: 101 013 im Intercity Design mit den deklassierten Intercitywagen. Ein echter Rollentausch des Rollmaterials – Wahnsinn!

From my 2023 visit: the shorebird with the longest legs (in relation to body size) patrols shallow water at the edge of the lake. I found a comfortable rock to sit on and just waited for the birds to come to me. Which they did.
This is a female. They are differentiated from males by the brownish plumage on their backs; in the male it is pure black.

Die Leistungen der Erzzüge in der Relation Hamburger Hafen - Salzgitter – Hamburger Hafen hatten und haben immer eine hohe Priorität auf dieser Strecke. Und wenn der Zug mal nicht im Plan war, dann wurde er beileibe nicht einfach an den Rand gestellt, sondern, wenn möglich, aufs „falsche Gleis“ geleitet, damit eine fliegende Überholung durch einen ICE ermöglicht wurde.
Radbruch an der Ladestraße, hört sich schon fast so wehmütig an wie Neustadt an der Knatter oder Pößneck o. Bahnhof?
Nun, so viel Poesie wohnte dieser Fotostelle am Rande Hamburgs dann doch nicht inne.
Geliebt oder gehaßt in der regionalen Szene, beschreibt diese Örtlichkeit dann vielleicht ein wenig besser?
Natürlich kann ich gar nicht unvoreingenommen sein, zu oft kam ich dort auf dem Heimwege wie zufällig vorbei und möglicherweise habe ich dort auch zu viele Stunden verbracht?
Aber wo gab es weit nach dem Jahrtausendwechsel noch Oberleitung mit Quertragwerken, alte Lichtsignaltechnik, die Bauform der Bahnsteiglampen und wie selbstverständlich funktionierende Bahnsteiguhren, niedrige Bahnsteige und von Wind & Wetter gegerbte Bahnsteighäuschen aus Waschbeton? Quasi ein letztes Refugium der alten Bundesbahn der 1970er und 1980er Jahre?
Dazu eng getakteter Verkehr mit allerlei abwechslungsreichen Leistungen.
Nun, der Fortschritt hat auch hier in voller Gänze Einzug gehalten und das ganze Ensemble ist vorbildlich mit allen Zipp & Zapp auf Neuzeit getrimmt worden.
Für 155 148 und ihren Zug drückte ich ein Jahr später letztmalig in Radbruch an der Ladestraße auf den Auslöser.
Seit dem war ich nicht mehr dort, und mein Heimweg führt jetzt oft über andere Wege, besser ist das wohl…
