Like any naive and hopeful indie rocker, I mailed copies of our CD--in this case Percy Shelley's Heart--to various record labels. Many didn't write back, but a few were kind enough to send us rejection form letters which I've saved for posterity.

My flight from Berlin to Salzburg is delayed, and I had to gate-check my bag, and I have a middle seat. But as I make my way back to row 11, I see there’s a silver lining – the guy in the window seat is cute. Really cute. He has dark brown hair and thick forearms and a crisp, angled...

On August 31, the governments of the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Turkey, under the auspices of Switzerland, agreed to submit for internal political consultations a “protocol on the establishment of diplomatic relations” and a “protocol on the development of bilateral relations,” followed by their signature and ratification.
These protocols affect the future of the Armenian people as a whole, including that of the Diaspora. This Diaspora not being represented as such, neither by the representatives of the Republic of Armenia nor by those of the States of which its members are citizens, our duty commands us imperatively to react by means of this petition, which is open to the signatures of all who uphold human dignity.
We take exception in advance to any initiative that would attempt to interpret this reaction as one directed against the Republic of Armenia, specifying that, quite to the contrary, it seeks to defend the vital interests and fundamental rights of the Armenian people.
Under these conditions, the signers of this petition,
* Recalling that the conception they have of Armenia exceeds that which is limited to the Republic of Armenia and its territory,
* Subsequently recalling that the authorities of the Republic of Armenia are not authorized to decide all questions that concern the entire Armenian people, notably that of the Genocide of 1915, of which heritage the Diaspora remains a depository,
* Recalling that to submit such a unique experience as genocide to negotiations and a judgment by governmental commissions or sub-commissions would subordinate the truth to political maneuvers and power relations,
* Reaffirming the universal consensus that has arisen from the experience of the Genocide of the Jews, a consensus that condemns denialist undertakings and stipulates that a genocide cannot be legitimately studied except by those who have already recognized it,
* Considering therefore that, by the signing of these protocols, Armenia marginalizes the Diaspora, and enters into the strategy of the Turkish State to divide the Armenian people and to stigmatize and delegitimize the Diaspora for advocating the consciousness of the Genocide,
* Considering that this signing was imposed by those who would like to see the Armenian State build itself up by disowning a part of the Armenian people,
1. Consequently reject these protocols as an effort of the Turkish State to impose on the economically vulnerable Republic of Armenia its distorted vision of history from which the Republic of Turkey was formed and which is consubstantial with it,
1. Call upon the Diaspora to reaffirm and strengthen its identity as holder of the memory of the Genocide of the Armenians by means of a project developed independently in critical dialogue with the authorities of the Republic of Armenia,
1. Call upon all those who uphold human dignity to express their rejection of these agreements which endanger the integrity of the Armenian people.

I know how you're feeling, pal. It's like the whole world wouldn't cast a single glance at you and even if they do, it's filled with so much contempt that it's better to just avoid eye contact. Delusion is so much better than reality sometimes. When you just wanna run away from the truth of it all. Taken with iPhone 4 and edited using crossprocess and filterstorm.

Protest at the administrative offices of Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Burlington, MA to demand a moratorium on deportations and ICE’s rejection of the applications for 287(g) agreements from the Sheriff Departments of Essex and Plymouth counties. If signed, organizers believe the agreement would increase the number of immigrant families being destroyed by deportation.
According to organizers between 2005 and 2010, 87% of cases involving undocumented immigrants with U.S. citizen children ended in deportation. Of all children in U.S. public schools, 6.9% are children of undocumented parents and 82% of those children are U.S. citizens. The Congressional mandate that sets a bed quota requiring Immigration and Customs Enforcement to detain 34,000 undocumented immigrants on any given night fuels the destruction of immigrant families. ICE is the only law enforcement agency that is subject to a national quota system for incarceration.

A sad tale of love and rejection : (
Saw this en route to the zoo and had to pull over for a few shots. You may well see this from another angle soon, sorry : ).

I bought a OneStep Polaroid Land Camera that still had four frames of SX-70 left in it. For $1.99, I couldn't pass it up. Sadly, the battery in the film was dead, so I transplanted the film into an empty Impossible Project cartridge that still had some juice left in the battery.
Alas, either the film was too old, or I damaged it in the transplanting process and this is the only frame that had any kind of an image on it. Oh well, it was worth a shot.
Mean green liberal thinking is characterized by the rejection of complexity and a "snap shot" view of the world. By "snap shot" I mean they take a static view of systems instead of seeing one part of a system effects another and actually changes the behavior of the system over time.
Additionally, the mean green view external forces acting on people as the keys to everything and see often see peoples' internal motivations as unaffected by external forces. Given all this, let's think about the mean green view of tax rate hikes:
It's pretty simple (starting at the top):
Rising deficits lead to increased pressure to raise tax rates
Tax rates rise increasing the amount of tax collected
The increased tax collections reduce the deficit
Note that the economy is treated as exogenous, i.e. the size of the tax-able economy is not affected in any way by tax rates.
This diagram, and how it relates to the Laffer Curve is further explained in the NeoLibertarian At Large blog posting The Systems Thinking View of The Laffer Curve. There is also more information about the Laffer Curve itself, including a quick video explaining the Laffer Curve, in The Laffer Curve: Tax Cuts Pay for Themselves . . . Sometimes.

Friends, In a release brought out recently to prove that the Left is anti-national, the M3VP has come up with a nlllM of inaginative lies-fran "they opposed the.celebratio~ of 151" August and 26"' January" to "they supported Osana bin laden". But the most telling is the clam that the Left does not accept the ~olour. ThiS is telfing because ~ is not the left but the Sangh Giroh itself that does not accept the tricoiO\I'-claiming that the bhagwa dhw;.¥ is the true national flag. This rejection of the tricolour is only symbolic of the rejection of the secular and anti-imperialist spirit of otr freedom struggle-in which . the RSS had no part to play. The vision of a secular, democratic and progessive India is not srmething that the RSS betieves in. On the contrary, as the VICe Ptesidenta~ candidate from the MVP last year-who is now their Presidential candidattr-declared in that year's election UGBM: the Sangh Parivar believes that India is a hindu rashtra Exactly what Bal Thackrey has been saying recently. The contow-s of this hindu rashtra of the Sangh Giroh's creams has become increasingly clear in the past few years of BJP rule. Golwalkar had v.Kitten approvingly of Hitler's 'final solution' for the Jews, and today his disciples in power are putting that teachin~ into_Practice in ~ujarat where huncieds of innocent members of the minority canmunity have lost their lives and many tines more have become refugees In their own land In the course of what can only be described as a state-sponsored genocide. And it is not only the religious minorities who will be at the receiving end. Given the Brahminical and patriarchal codes that form the basis of the Sangh's social vision, women, Dalits, adivasis too will be second class citizens at besl In the hindu rashtra that the likes of Giriraj Kishore want to build. it will not be a crme to lynch frve Dalit youth based on the mere rumour that they were slaughtering a cow. The Sangh's reactionary social agenda dovetails perfectly with mperialism's designs-it being the intention of both to take away the democratic rights of the people and to disrupt their unity. So abject is the surrender of the RSS-BJP to US-led mperialism that~ has come out in eager support of US policies like the NMD or the doctrine of unilateral strikes on which even the staunchest allies of the US have dithered. In the campus, the M3VP echoes George Bush by claiming that the Left supports Osama in Laden since it does not support the US's 'war on terror'. However. while taking a consistent stand against terrorism, the Left had not hesitated in exposing the 'war on terror' for what it really was-an attempt to strengthen imperialist hegemony over oil-rich Central Asia and to deflect attention from the economic crisis at home. The facts have borne us out-the US war in Afghanistan, which devastated the lives of the innocent civilian population of Afghanistan is now at an end after the installation of a puppet regime, even though Osama bin Laden and Mullah Omar remain untraced. The next target is Iraq, and the Pentagon already has the composition of the next puppet regime ready on its ~les. Under the BP-Ied regime. the attack on the common people's livelihood and the loot of public assets through the pursuit of neo-liberal policies , has intensified. Corruption under this regime has reached new heights with the BJP and the NOA partners continuing shamelessly in offiCe even as scam after scam gets exposed. We were witness, on national television. to the president of the self-proclained 'nationalist' BJP accepting bribes from a supposed defence contractor. We found the nationalist BJP leaders making money out of the procurement of coffins for soldiers who laid down their lives in Kargil. UTI. petrol pump. land.... , the list of scams is endless. And alarge number of benefiCiaries have been RSS activists: with an MVP leader from JNU, who is now the Delhi State secretary of his organisation too getting apiece of land for himself in Delhi. .
As is to be expected from a fascistic organisation, faced with growing discontent against its anti-people policies. the RSS has been speaking in different tongues. On one hand is the aajivan swayamsevak Prime Minister who declares thatreforms are irreversible and on the other is the Swadeshi Jagaram Manch which makes noises againstliberalisation. Following the same pattern, the N3VP on our campus brings out pamphets a~air1st the NDA .
government's policies of liberalisation and privatisation of education while at the same time staying away from struggles agai~st privatisation and inviting ministers from the NOA government to address its election meetings. HowevP.r, people across the country can see through thiS ruse and t.he people have given a clear verdict against the RSS-BJP in all recent assembly elections and by-elections-even in states like Uttar Pradesh and JaJ'Tlmu and Kashmir where the BJP had tried its best to fan up communal passions. The N3VP too has faced a rout in students'.union election in unive~ities. like _Himachal Pradesh University. Hyderabad Central University and Punjab University and we appeal to the student commumty to make JNU the next hl thiS sene;;. .
In our own university we have faced the impact of the policies of privatisation and saffronisation and the RSS's communal attack. The last JNUSU, led by the SFi-AISF, mobilised the student community in struggles against these multiple attacks, defending the democratic campus ethos and resisting the attempts to privatise and saffronise our university through theAdministration's X Plan and the attempt to appoint a RSS Vice-Chancellor. At the same time significant achievements were achieved on issues of immediate student concern like the library, computer and internet facilities. hostel faciities etc. It IS very unfortunate that in an election being held after such major shifts in the national political situation and struggles in our o'M'l university, organistions like the NSUI and AI SA have not engaged in a serious poHtical deb_at!l. confining themselves to se~sat!onal!sm and raising non-issues. This shows not only their complete ideological bankruptcy but is also a re·nectton of the1r rnactivlty over the year and their ahenat1on from students struggles. .
While reaffirming its commitment to continuing the struggles against privatisation, saffronisation and communalism, the SFI-AISF would like to put forward an alternative agenda for JNU as an university where students from different sections of society have the fullest possible opportunity to engage in critical academic enquiry. A university where there are institutional mechanisms for financial and academic assistance to students from deprived sections, where students have access to adequate library and laboratory facilities, where students participate in academic decision making and where obcurantist courses like 'Human Consciousness' have no place. We would like to seek amandate from the student community to struggle for this vision and to send a message that the ABVP's politics of communal barbarism has no place in JNU. .

Final Series for my Adv Traditional Film Class. I love working with 35mm film more than digital. Working in the darkroom and making print after print really is my favorite hobby.
This series was titled Enigma Between Acceptance and Rejection. It's all about questioning the world and being accepting it as it is or being shunned from it. Yadda yadda yadda.
