A bunch of regular punters thouroughly enjoying their drink atthe bar of the famous brown pub "Den Engel" in the city of Antwerp, situated around the "Grote Markt" (the name "Grote Markt" means "Great Market" in Flemish/Dutch.The name of the brown pub "Den Engel" means "The Angel" in Flemish/Dutch).This must be one of the most photographed brown pubs in the city of Antwerp !
The people behind the bar and the punters are very friendly and symphatetic towards photographers.One of the punters sitting at the bar wanted me to buy him a drink...But that's just fishing...;-)
Estava de férias em Lagos.
A família regularmente alugava a mesma casinha nos limites rurais da cidade e íamo-nos espraiar de manhã e à tarde para a meia praia.
Uma ocasião vi um glorioso carro dos anos 50 estacionado na avenida marginal. Impecável, parecia acabadinho de sair da fábrica. A seu lado, uma pequena palmeira no passeio. Mais ao fundo, a muralha de pedra do porto e o céu azul.
Este conjunto sugeriu-me uma imagem a fazer, desde que com a luz no ângulo certo. Feitas as contas e olhada a bússola, seria pelo meio-dia.
Uns dias depois, tendo o céu a limpidez adequada, parti descendo a colina, carregado com a câmara, as ópticas, os filtros, o tripé… toda a parafernália. Havia que chegar ao local a tempo de apanhar o sol na posição certa.
A meio caminho sou interpelado por um casal de velhotes que caminhava em sentido inverso:
“- Olá, como está?
- Desculpem mas… conheço-vos?
- Não se lembra de nós?
- Confesso que não. Querem ajudar-me?
- Em Coimbra, junto à Sé velha, há uns anos… Aquela fotografia que nos tirou…”
Recordei-me então e ficámos um niquinho à conversa.
Reformados que estavam, aproveitavam quando estava bom tempo para passear e conhecer o país como não tinham podido quando jovens.
E, à medida que iam viajando, iam fotografando o que viam, enquadrando-se ora um ora outro na imagem. Tinham uma única fotografia de ambos desses passeios: Aquela em que eu me tinha oferecido para fazer com a câmara deles, em Coimbra, aquando de uma das minhas peregrinações ao Encontros de Fotografia.
Apenas uma, de milhares que tinham. Apenas uma que os mostrava aos dois. Partilhando os Outonos amenos da vida e de Coimbra.
A minha oferta, tão natural quanto um copo de água, marcou-os indelevelmente. Aquela fotografia não é uma fotografia para eles:
É A fotografia.
Confesso que na altura já nem me recordava do facto. E, não fora eles, nem nunca mais o recordaria, de entre muitas situações semelhantes vividas.
E esta fotografia, que nunca vi, é uma daquelas que consta do meu álbum de recordações. Não como um ponto de viragem, mas mais como um parágrafo no livro que vamos escrevendo e a que chamamos vida.
Quanto à foto do carro? Bem, a hora de verão está atrasada em relação à solar, pelo que cheguei demasiadamente tarde nesse dia. Voltei lá mais tarde, mas não consegui dar-lhe aquele ar retro-californiano que queria.
Não adianta imitar. Há que ser espontâneo e generoso na fotografia, tal como na vida.

After a single night in the upper capsule sweating the whole night, I couldn't take it anymore. By moving upstairs I got an ensuite shower/toilet, more space and privacy, and - most importantly - my own A/C unit.
Their days are numbered: A string of regular ore cars rolls into the yard at Proctor with Minorca limestone on Nov. 2, 2008. This fleet of these 60 year old cars must be oldest in active revenue service on CN. About half still have their old friction bearing trucks while some have been retrofitted with roller bearings. One has to think these oldest of the ore cars will be retired when CN's new 232 ore cars delivery starts in 2009.
Adapted to fit a child. Cast on 72 stitches, knit for 5 inches then began decreases. Gift for my 7 year old nephew who requested a brown hat. :)

El Tajín is a pre-Columbian archeological site in southern Mexico and is one of the largest and most important cities of the Classic era of Mesoamerica. El Tajín was named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1992, due to its cultural importance and its architecture.
This is quite a piece of work considering how long ago this was created. The mining, measuring, cutting, positioning of the stone would all have been completed by hand.
