The regulars in our local park have been waiting impatiently to see the lone swan couple's five cygnets. And here they are ! Like royalty, she paraded them around the pond, while her mate, the Prince, bullied every other water bird in sight to keep his family safe. This is the best picture I could get of them close up, they were so close to me and all close together. She would have been alarmed had I gone down closer. I hope you like it.
I hope you like the music I've chosen to go with them too - clearly they're both so proud of their new family !

The Painted Lady is a regular, true trans-continental migrant covering many miles in several generations. Adults feed on a wide variety of flowers including Knapweed.

The long-billed curlew is the largest sandpiper of regular occurrence in North America. It is 50–65 cm (20–26 in) long, 62–90 cm (24–35 in) across the wing and weighs 490–950 g (1.08–2.09 lb).
Its disproportionally long bill curves downward and measures 11.3–21.9 cm (4.4–8.6 in), and rivals the bill of the larger-bodied Far Eastern curlew as the longest bill of any shorebird.[4] Individuals have a long neck and a small head. The neck and underparts are a light cinnamon in color, while the crown is streaked with brown. This species exhibits reversed sexual dimorphism, as in many sandpipers, the female being larger and having a much longer bill than the male's.

Wiener Melange at the Café Leopold Hawelka in the old town in Vienna, Austria.
Café Hawelka is a famous café in Vienna, Austria. It was opened by Leopold and josefine Hawelka in 1939.
The café was closed after the beginning of World War II, but was reopened in 1945 in the largely intact building.
After the end of Allied occupation in 1955, the café quickly became a meeting point for writers and critics including Heimito von Doderer, Albert Paris Gütersloh, Hilde Spiel, Friedrich Torberg and Hans Weigel. In 1961 it became more popular among artists and became a center of the art scene. Regular guests included Friedrich Achleitner, H. C. Artmann, Konrad Bayer, Ernst Fuchs, Friedensreich Hundertwasser, Rudolf Hausner, Wolfgang Hutter, Helmut Qualtinger, Gerhard Rühm, and Oskar Werner.
Josefine Hawelka died in 2005 after having managed the café for 66 years with her husband. She had baked the café's specialty, its Buchteln desserts (which are still made by Günther Hawelka, Josefine and Leopold's son).
Leopold Hawelka would sit at the entrance to his now famous café and greet his customers until he died in 2011.

Reflecting back to last year and the end of 2016 when I was treated to regular sightings of these occasional winter migrants.
Looks like we will have to wait now until the end of the year to have a chance of seeing these beautiful birds.

En été, la zône de l'Alto Lago est balayée au cours de la journée par des vents thermiques réguliers et puissantsqui se succèdent en une mécanique bien réglée : L'Orà et le Peler. Ce régime des vents très particulier a fait de la bourgade de Torbole un haut lieu de la pratique de la voile et de la planche à voile. le lac a cinq îles, toutes plutôt petites.

Questo regime di vento molto particolare ha reso la città di Torbole una mecca della vela e del windsurf. Il lago ha cinque isole, tutte piuttosto piccole.

In summer, the area of the Alto Lago is swept during the day by regular and powerful thermal winds that follow one another in a well-regulated mechanism: the Orà and the Peler. This particular wind regime has made the town of Torbole a Mecca for sailing and windsurfing. The lake has five islands, all of them rather small.
Because of the safety measures implemented during Covid-19, there is a reduced collection of downtown Springfield, Mo regulars. Some, such as these couple of skate boarders, utilize the ghost town as a surrogate for their otherwise closed usual hang-outs.
I appreciate Dominic and his friend for inviting me to shoot them during their trick boarding session.
At last. I finally caught Dusty off guard. Here he is going through his regular Yoga routine before retiring for the evening. The flexibility and athleticism of cats is quite amazing.

1779 shunts at the west end of the BNSF yard in Tacoma. This SD40-2 has a long history having first entered service with BN back in 02/78. 44 years later this hugely successful class of locomotives can still be found in regular use throughout the US network. 3,982 were built between 1972 and 1989.
I've been a regular visitor to the gardens at Borde Hill for a number of years now, but I don't think I will ever tire of going there. It's late Summer now and many of the flowers are over, but there's still so much to enjoy. This selection of images is just a small sample.

Back when Delaware-Lackawanna ran three times a week to interchange with Norfolk Southern at Slateford Junction or Portland, a trio of ALCO/MLWs pass underneath the Lackawanna Cut-Off bridge over the Delaware River near Slateford Jct. At the time, C636 3642 sported a freshly-applied nose herald, which was sorely needed! You won't find regular freight activity down here these days unfortunately, but at least the Delaware-Lackawanna is still going strong.
These regularly spaced posts are all that remains of earlier coastal defences at Happisburgh, Norfolk uk.

3437 'No 2 DHEF' Fried Krupp 0-6-0T
Having arrived at Dunsen, where the train paused to meet a local gathering of classic cars, ex-industrial shunter 3437 waits to take her train onto Harpstedt. The Delmenhorst-Harpstedter Eisenbahnfreunde operates passenger services on a route which was still in regular use by local freight trains in August 2019.
This series of 13 photos is a record of Otis (on the right) meeting Gracie Jo* (and vice versa) for the first time. As usual, Camille showed up to accompany Otis for his walk on the leash.
*Gracie Jo was our neighbor's mostly-outside cat; when our neighbor died recently, we adopted her (per his wishes). We had 9 cats before Gracie Jo, but Camille is the only one who goes outside by herself. Those two have known each other for 6 years. Otis takes semi-regular walks on the leash, but hadn't met GJ other than seeing her from the window or cat enclosure.
All of the photos are in the order they were taken (although I didn't include every frame).
Fieldfares and Redwings have been regular visitors to my garden during this cold snap. This is a first for me... a female blackcap. Usually a summer visitor, about 3000 do overwinter. Seems comfortable with sparrows, but less so when starlings arrive.
