I was outside down in Port Rowan talking pictures on one of the windiest days I have seen down there in a long time. I didn't know if anything would have turned out trying to hold the camera even on a tripod. There were hundreds of these Merganser hanging out trying to feed.
For regular Lake District hikers a familiar sight greets those who depart north. The undulating ridge winds its way towards a distant Swirl How. It is however the eastern facing crags over Low Water and Levers Water that catch the eye.
Excerpt from historicplaces.ca:
Description of Historic Place
The Navy Hall stands alone in a carefully manicured park setting just below Fort George National Historic Site. Designed with clear, clean lines, it is a low, rectangular, stone-clad structure with a hipped-roof clad in copper, and with a symmetrical organization of its windows and entry points. The designation is confined to the footprint of the building.
Heritage Value
The Navy Hall is a Recognized Federal Heritage Building because of its historical associations, and its architectural and environmental values.
Historical Value:
The Navy Hall is a very good example of a building associated with the beginnings of the heritage movement in the first half of the 20th century. It illustrates changing approaches to the management of important historic buildings over time. In particular, it illustrates the role of aesthetics in conservation in the 1930s. Originally a commissariat storehouse, regular troops, the militia and also the Boy Scouts used the building, built in 1815. In the 1930s, the building was taken over by the Niagara Parks Commission.
Architectural Value:
The Navy Hall is valued for its good aesthetic design. The exterior fabric of the structure, the stone cladding, the copper clad roof, and the enhanced symmetry of the fenestration are features of the 1930s intervention. These features, clearly of a later era and philosophy, reflect the classical revival tastes of the period and the design idiom of the Niagara Parks Commission. Good functional design is evidenced in the placement of doors and windows, and in the spatial arrangement and planning of the interior.
Environmental Value:
The Navy Hall reinforces the landscaped parkway that runs along the Niagara lakefront and is a familiar landmark to residents and to visitors.
Character-Defining Elements
The character-defining elements of the Navy Hall should be respected.
Its good aesthetic, good functional design and good quality materials and craftsmanship, for example:
-the simple, rectangular massing.
-the low-pitched hipped roof, the copper roof cladding, and the symmetrically placed chimneys.
-the stone cladding of the exterior walls, the small multi-paned windows and large entrances.
-the interior spatial arrangement of the principal rooms.
The manner in which the Navy Hall reinforces the landscaped setting and is a familiar landmark, as evidenced by:
-its simple design and materials that harmonize with the landscaped parkway consisting of well-maintained lawns and walks, all introduced as part of the Niagara Park Commission’s parkway landscaping in the 1930s.
-its visibility and recognition by those frequenting the parkway and the National Historic Site.
Apologize for not being regular due to some personal commitment and busy in travelling.....hopefully things would be regularized soon.

ONE ROSETTE OUTSIDE & ONE REGULAR INSIDE
When I saw the sun rose on a rosette (rosace) of church and the gates of the church building were open to a jazz show at noon, my curiosity led me to enter and climb top of the gallery to take some shots.
The effect of the superimposition of the two sets separated by a few feet of windows is surely passing a feature in itself.
. . . said the hummingbird to the woodpecker . . .
I kid you not . . . this little guy is a regular on our hummingbird feeders! He's really into the sweet stuff!
"Knedlík" 182.065 (prod. 1964) is making its way through the devastated stretch of track between the stations Puszcza Mariańska and Mszczonów with a set of UPG.ua tankers.
The company CTL has taken up the task of hauling such trains between the Ukrainian border in Hrubieszów and various locations on the Polish borders - mostly Szczecin. This way, the colorful tanker trains became a regular sight on the railway line no. 12 Skierniewice - Łuków.
The transports to/from Ukraine with various different goods have partially replaced the mostly collapsed intense container traffic between Małaszewicze and Rzepin on the line 12. I would even risk saying that the traffic is even denser than before the war with a daily number of trains gusting 35-45 and provides a much larger variety of carriers. The usual operators on the East-West container services were PKPC, DB and Ecco Rail. Now they are also broken up by various other companies, like the CTL shown above or Ost-West Logistics.
More about this particular part of the railway line here.

for many years my garden was a shrubbery flic.kr/p/Lhv9ag which i loved. a picket fence covered in an ivy hedge coming down in a storm flic.kr/p/2gnCyih meant that over time changes had to happen flic.kr/p/2mn2x8a i'll be glad when the trellis is covered in honeysuckle and jasmine. that's the plan ...

Most random is the pattern of fallen leaves, but the brick colors look also somewhat random. iPhone 8+ photo.

Red-winged blackbird, Rondeau Provincial Park, Ontario, Canada, January 7, 2022.
We don't get many red-wings during the winter but we do have one visiting on a regular basis this year.
Agelaius phoeniceus
The oldest recorded Red-winged Blackbird was 15 years, 9 months old. It was banded in New Jersey in 1967, and found alive, but injured in Michigan in 1983. It was able to be released after recovering from its injuries.

Comes with 3 separate rezzers 1.) Memorial Garden, 2.) Just a regular garden and 3.) A rezzer with a cut lawn rather than a meadow. after 20 years of many and regular travels to Britain this year will be without any journey there. we have cancelled two journeys to Kent and Northumberland although planned and booked for a long time, and we are very sad about this necessary decision.
"This precious stone set in silver sea" has become the arena for a new drama of Shakespeares themes and
dimensions. "Though this be madness, yet there is method in ’t." (Hamlet)
We have no desire to get in all this crazy Brexit madness and we hope to return to Britain when the relationship between the Uk and the EU will become and planable again....

Regular visitor to this delightful location at this time of the year and often wonder how many of the students actually take time to notice this amazing setting. The security guard that Bruce and I spoke to didnt have a clue suggesting it was a wattle tree....duh.

‘Scruffy robin’ , as we like to call him. A regular visitor to our garden for a number of years. As each year passes we wonder if he will reappear.
A scene taken on Gloucester Horton Road shed (85B) in November 1965 shows the old and the new order with Castle Class No.7029 "Clun Castle" alongside a Brush Type 4 No.D1721. I would not have imagined that nearly 57 years later that this combination of locomotives would still be working on the mainline. 7029 now owned by Vintage Trains of Tyseley regularly hauls charter trains (topping and tailing) with Brush Type 4 D1755. D1721 was not so lucky being scrapped in October 1990.
