It's nearly August, and here on the Costa del Sol that means sweaty hot weather. No air conditioning means I have to resort to simpler measures to keep cool. I think this should do the trick.

Two parts Absolute Grapefruit Vodka (straight from the freezer)

Four parts tonic

One honkin piece of ice

Rodaja de lima to garnish

Sip and enjoy.

One Viv 285 through Westcott umbrella either side of the glass in really close, like 15" away. Not sure of power settings, triggered by Cactus V2s.

Subject was on a glass table with a dark piece of fabric hung in the background. I used a 180th sync setting to keep any stray light from getting in and crushed the blacks in Aperture to send the background all the way black. PS'd out any unwanted reflections, like scratches on the table and whatnot.

Ce week end avait lieu les 20 et 10 kilomètres de Lausanne, course très populaire où se mèlent professionnels et amateurs. Le ravitaillement situé après une montée et à 5 km du départ a été grandement apprécié par les participants souhaitant se rafraichir...

This week the popular race of the 20 and 10 kilometers of Lausanne, mixing both professionals and non-professionals, took place in the city. Located after a slope and 5 km form departure line, the watering point had a great success.

Active Assignment Weekly: December 31 - January 6 / Refreshing

New beginnings are refreshing to me. Happy New Year to the AAW family. In photography, I find waking up to the crisp morning air for a sunrise photo to be very refreshing.

WIT: Woke up bright and early to photograph the LA skyline from the Griffith Observatory at sunrise. This wasn't my planned spot, but that's what I find fun about photography...take it as you see it. I also decided to take up the "Dare" and put myself in it (also unplanned).

Set up tripod and triggered release with wireless remote. My head initially covered the sun, I then made an adjustment in my position so that the sun was just so before it got too bright very quickly. The sun flare on my hat was an unplanned effect which I really like.

Took 3 exposures and fused in PS so that I can see myself and the sunrise details.

Captured on a recent hike through the Dolly Sods Wilderness area in West Virginia. I hadn't even anticipated seeing any waterfalls so I had no tripod or filters with me. nevertheless, I was compelled to walk out to the middle of the river and see what I could get. After getting myself appropriately contorted for maximum stability I fired a few shots. This ended up being a single file conversion to HDR from the middle shot as there was slightly too much movement in between the brackets to get a good result. The last bracket was actually way too slow to be useful(blurring amongst several elements) All in all though, this one worked out pretty well considering the lack of equipment and less than optimum sun position. Hey, when you're on a 12 mile hike, waiting around for better light isn't always an option.

The Himalayan resort of Gulmarg is situated in the Pirpanjal range in the western Himalayas, in the Baramula district of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. The town is accessible from Srinagar by road via Tangmarg. The road climbs uphill in the last 12 km to Gulmarg passing through forests of pine and fir. This hill station was first ‘discovered’ as a resort town by the 16th-century Kashmiri ruler who was so impressed with the flower-carpeted meadow that he named it Gulmarg, or ‘meadow of flowers’.

While Gulmarg is an all-weather resort with refreshing summer meadows and pastoral scenes, the main reason to come here, in winter, is the long-run skiing and snowboarding. According to CNN, Gulmarg is the 'heartland of winter sports in India' and was rated as Asia's seventh best ski destination.

At sunrise everything is luminous but not clear. It is those we live with and love and should know who elude us. You can love completely without complete understanding.

So today I went and visited my uncle and aunt, they gave me this drink and so I decided to go on a free-lensing frenzy. This is what came out of it. Used my 50mm F/1.8

As refreshing as it looks. One of the few items now available for sale in a supermarket without a plastic wrapper!
