Reflection
The reflection of a man and a woman on the window of a tram, symbolising the depth of reflection. Their silhouettes, half-blurred, seem to be immersed in a distant, almost pensive thought. Their faces, marked by an expression of silent concern, reveal an inner state, as if the movement of the tram were witnessing a moment of shared solitude, a moment suspended in time.

"Reflections of Roseates" by Patti Deters. A group of six Roseate Spoonbill (Platalea ajaja) waterbirds forage in the shallow waters in a Florida marsh. These are large waterfowl that get their pink coloring from the foods they eat, digging into the muddy bottoms of swamps. Reflections at Grand Canal Dock, Dublin, Ireland at night. Weather conditions were near ideal for reflections. It was a calm night and a clear moonlit sky. Long exposure taken with my Camera mounted on my Manfrotto 190 tripod.

Reflections of light in the clouds after the sunset in Elafonisos island. Last summer nights in a beautiful place. Next year..
So I made my first ever trip to the world renowned Lake District last weekend with my Dad and this is probably my favourite shot from the trip, although don't be fooled that the conditions in the Lakes were like this for all the 4 days!
On the first day we experienced some nice sunny conditions with patchy cloud and a mostly very nice sunset (pic to come later) but then the wind and rain really kicked in for the next two days. We experienced regularly average wind speeds of 25mph+ with gusts easily up to 60mph. However when I got home my Mum told me the weather forecast had talked about gusts up to 100mph!!! All I know for sure was that a tree did blow over where we were staying... The rain also of course played its part, many torrential downpours and even hail one night! Anyway this certainly didn't prevent us shooting and we made the most of it as we visited some waterfalls and hopefully captured some stormy looking pics. Even with the weather like this the Lake District is an amazing place to be, the terrain is like nothing I have seen before, stunning!
Anyway on to this shot. Overnight the rain went, the wind vanished and stunning reflections appeared! Once I got outside the conditions were so calm that I decided we should try Buttermere and sure enough once we got there the conditions were fantastic! I have never seen a lake so calm and the reflections just before this photo were taken were literally mirror perfect! Anyway for this I like the fact that you can see very slight blurred reflections and I loved half the mountain being obscured by some low level clouds, with it being placed on the left hand side it felt a bit like an anchor for the composition to but I'm not sure if others see that or not.
Anyway, enough blabble. Hope you like this shot and a big thanks to my Dad for help in getting this shot as I wouldn't have it without his help :)
I keep asking myself why I take pictures. Why am I photographer? The truth is....I'm not sure. I've always liked creating things and being an introvert, photography was something I could do on my own.
I enjoy documenting the world around me and a lot of my photos are around my house because I just don't get out that often or I don't bring my camera with me enough when I do get out.
One of the best things about being a generalist in photography, I can shoot whatever I want which is great but it also means I'll never be really good one particular genre. I've never really been good at anything in life, photography has really been the only thing that people actually seem to like from me. That makes me happy and brings joy to my life when people enjoy my work.
As you may have noticed, I'm not as active on Flickr as I once was. Flickr has become a big time suck for me, I was spending hours and hours a day looking at other peoples photos and usually commenting on them but that was taking time away from me and It may sound selfish but I need time to work on me to become a better person and a better photographer. I also want to get back into making YouTube videos as well.
I don't know. I was Lightroom and I saw this photo of me being reflected in this hubcap and kind of had one of those self reflection moments about why I take pictures. I've been too hard on myself lately when it comes to photography. It's suppose to be a fun thing, I shouldn't stress out over it.
I realized that I focused so much on the numbers and that's not what photography is about.
So I want to have fun taking pictures again, I don't want to think about whether or not people will like this photo or not because in the end, it doesn't matter. I'm the only one who has to like it and if others don't, they that's fine too. I enjoy sharing my photos with the world because that one photo could make a difference in someone out there. It could put a smile on that one person that's having a real bad day. That's worth it to me.

We just announced several new workshops for May & June! We'll be going to Reflection Canyon and Coyote Gulch on May 16-18. I took this shot of Reflection Canyon last spring and it really lived up to its name with crystal clear reflections! The Escalante workshops will be held on May 11-15 and June 9-13 and will focus on night photography.
You'll want to photograph the wild and vast Grand Staircase Escalante before it all changes! You've probably heard that it will be reduced in size and significant infrastructural changes have been planned for oil, gas, and mining activities. These events will undoubtedly change this uniquely beautiful landscape with increased human foot-print, light pollution, and contamination. As it is right now, the Grand Staircase has the darkest skies in the lower 48 states and is THE mecca for night photography.
