Artist’s Statement:
One of my favorite things to do while I was living in Kyiv, Ukraine was to wander around the city with my camera. I was mesmerized by the beautiful architecture and the culture which is so different than American. I was strolling through the city one day looking for things that caught my eye. While getting ready to cross the street, I tried to avoid stepping in a large slush puddle. I happened to notice an interesting reflection and decided to take a picture of it. I felt like I had discovered a new way to view the world! I began to see the city through its reflections and this process brought me to St. Michael’s Golden Dome Monastery captured in this puddle reflection. It is one of the most significant Orthodox Churches in Ukraine and I love the complementary colors of blue and gold which made it a wonderful place to photograph. I was thrilled to find a puddle which I was able to get a clear reflection of the bell tower with just about the entire onion dome on top.
This image is symbolic of my reflecting on life while living there, my spiritual growth and the creative force that drives me to pursue my photography with a passion.
This is a shot from the Sweetwater Wetlands in Tucson, AZ. It is a magic place where there is still standing water in the desert. Mostly because of the effluent from the water treatment plant. It creates an oasis of life in the area and the place is teaming with life. It is a great place to watch birds and the sunset. This image is actually two different images that I have used to get the exposure correct in the sky and water. I wanted to maximize the color in both so I shot with different apertures then took the best for the water and sky to combine in CS3.

- Look for unconventional reflective surfaces (e.g., metal, glass, puddles).
- Experiment with angles to create interesting distortions.
- Focus on the interplay between the reflection and the surrounding environment.

Getting back to some of my pics that I took a couple weeks ago. We were leaving the park & we came across this puddle. So...of course I want the kids to get in it..haha...their mom, not so sure. In the end..the kids did get to play and I got a few cute reflection pictures :) I'd say it was a win/win!

The clear and still water in the Luray Caverns creates a perfect reflection of the stalactites on the ceiling...the symmetry was so perfect....at first glance, one would think that the reflection was actually stalagmites!
