Markthal, Rotterdam.

Rotterdam, Markthal.

At a historical location at the Binnenrotte, next to Blaak Station and the largest weekly open air fresh food and hardware market in Rotterdam, the first covered market of the Netherlands was realised. Markthal includes a huge market floor on the ground floor under an arch of apartments. Its shape, its colourful interior and the height turns Markthal into an unique spectacle.

Built by the team of Provast developers and architecture studio MVRDV.

The Markthal in Rotterdam is a residential and retail building with an indoor market hall. The opening took place on October 1, 2014 by Queen Máxima. In addition to an indoor market, the complex houses 228 apartments, 4,600 m² of retail space, 1,600 m² of catering and a parking garage for more than a thousand cars.

"Why must we all conceal

What we think, how we feel?

Must there be a secret me

I'm forced to hide?

I won't pretend that I'm

Reflections on the River Severn make this row of river front houses seem like they are almost floating in the air! Helped by the dead calm waters on the evening river.

As the tide was shifting, so the reflections joined the stunning clouds for this beach spectacle.

Reflections in Clumber Park lake...

Pond grass on the surface of Reflection Lake adds an abstract pattern to the refection of Mount Rainier.

The image was taken a few moments before sunset and the camera is pointed towards the sun which is setting behind the church. The light illuminating the cracked boulder in the foreground is the sunlight reflected from a big window nearby, and hence the name. The church is Kópavogskirkja, the best known landmark of my community.

The image is an HDR of 3 exposures, processed in Photomatix.

Reflections on the water at Docklands

An externally perfect example of a small fortified tower house, Smailholm occupies a prominent position atop Lady Hill, near Sandyknowe in the Scottish Borders. The location gives wide-ranging views to the Cheviot, Lammermuir, and Eildon Hills. The tower was built in the early 15th century by the Pringle family, squires of the powerful Black Douglasses who ruled much of the Borders.

The tower stands five storeys high, reaching 20 metres (65 feet), on an rectangular plan, with walls over 2 metres thick.
