Obviously we’re taking a break from “the veiling of the self” collection. We’ll get back to it later though.

Enjoy the summer!

Tower Reflected in Puddle

Duke of Gloucester Street

Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia

Recent rains had left puddles in Colonial Williamsburg when we visited on New Year's Day; walking along Duke of Gloucester Street, I noticed the tower of Bruton Parish Church (over 300 years old -- see next photo) in one of the puddles.

Another shot of the beautiful sunset we had yesterday evening. Reflected in the upstairs landing window. No sign tonight of a sunset as we had heavy rain after a dawn of fog and frost!

Inspired by the young lady sitting on the porch. I consider my work New Wave Regionalism. Grant Wood (American Gothic) painted images of the heartland. Regionalism was considered his style. Mine is New Wave because the images are digitally remastered and primarily from Oklahoma. Each element in the image is something I have taken somewhere else.

Lake Elizabeth at Allegheny Commons Park reflects the cloud formation on a warm spring morning.

This globe was lit by two bare strobes pointed at a yellow faux wood wall in back and one large softbox camera right and above subject. The globe was placed on black acrylic for the natural reflection.

This was the primary subject in one of the setups at the Utah Strobist Meetup tonight. There was a lot of fun conversations and some learning to be had there.

Thanks to Kim Guanzon for getting this moving and everyone sharing equipment and knowledge.

On a warm Spring day, the cooling waters of a woodland stream always feel amazing! No need to stop to remove boots either, just walk straight in :)

Just taking time to reflect on my photography and how much I am getting out of it and found an image that I made in 2009 at Hareshaw Linn that was never processed!

I find it so important to spend a little time in reflection mode nowadays and pause for a while before the next steps forward in developing my style further and gaining a better understanding of photography! I keep saying this to friends but I reckon it will take around two lifetimes to learn what I want to learn but then again, I now remember how little I knew only three years ago!

It is from many hours of research, college work and through learning many things from you dear people on Flickr that I think I now sort of know what I'm doing......so many thanks to you all and I sincerely hope that you all continue as I do, to "Just Love What You Do"!

Unedited puddle reflection of the Red Light District in Amsterdam. Taken with a Sony HX200V. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop :)

Some consider Amsterdam to be the city of sin and unholy pleasures, but to those actually living here it's just a beautiful, tiny and loveable village that has a lot more to offer than Sex, Drugs and Rock'n'Roll, those things are mostly reserved for our visitors, while we locals usually stay away from those parts of town that lure people into the Coffeeshops or red windows, but still, sometimes it's nice to hang out downtown and shoot the pretty buildings and all that :)

I've also made a wicked reflection movie of this puddle, please take the time to watch it on my YouTube channel, thank you :)

India Gate Shot with Reflection on Water...

I came for the fog but soon dissipated before I even arrived! However, clouds I did get but even at 120 seconds exposure they hardly moved! What was a man to do? Well, I sort of like the shallow movement as oppose to a full blown streaks.

Just on the outskirts of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania is the little borough of Rupert. As you drive through Rupert and around a bend out of town, you'll see this interesting little gem. There are a total of three cabooses sitting up on an abandoned piece of rail line that used to belong to the Reading Railroad. It's quite an interesting setup that I'd love to find more information on since somebody had to have put them there for something. I just loved the view and reflections.

Stately beech trees reflected in the waters of our pond in Ceredigion, Wales

Photo taken for Our Daily Challenge: I Have Never Shot One of These Before.

I drove up to the Pittock Mansion in the West Hills of Portland to shot the sunrise, something that I had never done before. (See First Light and The View below.) Then I noticed that the sunrise was reflecting in the large picture window of the mansion. (See Mansion below.) When I returned home, I decided that this reflection was the most unique of my 113 shots. I had to do some serious maniplating to get the original widow frame copied and straightened. Only two sides had been in the original photo. This too was something that I had never done before.

Hadley kindly woke up from his nap and held his pencil for me. Funny how I suddenly discovered I had purple right beneath my fingertips.

More droplets, I like 2 days off so they’ll be a few for now and then I’ll go quiet again.

I can’t seem to resize without losing image quality rather majorly which defeats the purpose of using my macro lens. I have tried GIMP and Microsoft Office Picture Manager, I don’t have Photoshop, any hints?

Orange/yellow water dropped into blue water, 2 Jessops 360AFD flashes backlighting, both on 1/16th power with blue diffuser over half. Used a smaller dropper this time. Got a few more I may upload.

1/200 exposure, F/13, ISO 100. Some edges of the drop @ 100% are slightly OOF, perhaps need to either move the camera back or see if I can get that aperture down a bit.

Over the water goes Amtrak Cardinal #51 with #301 on point and shining in the morning sun. Running just above 8 hours late made for a great and rare daylight run.
