Name: Reede

Species: English Muntjac

Sex: Male

Location from: England

Other: A young adult that was evidently sourced from roadkill. Has some minor post mortem tooth damage.

Species Info: Muntjacs, AKA Barking Deer, are small portly deer with striking red coats. Their most notable feature are their long canines which are used for fighting. They have no seasonal rut- instead mating year-round due to being a tropical animal.

These deer are native to Asian regions but have been introduced to England, where they have become one of the most common deer species.

AUDEMARS PIGUET – Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Yellow Gold

The Tillamook hangar held NINE of the K Class blimps. Still not big enough for even one Hindenburg, though.

This is where I was sitting for the Rays vs. Astros game as seen through my 25mm f/1.4 Panasonic-Leica lens. This gives you an idea how telescopic my 150mm f/2 is on a 4/3 sensor.

"Cola de Caballo"

The Flame Towers (Azerbaijani: Alov qüllələri) are a group of three skyscrapers in Baku, Azerbaijan. The main contractor, Dia Holdings, is owned by actors that are linked to Azerbaijan's ruling Aliyev family's network of offshore companies.

The height of the tallest tower is 182 m (597 ft). The three flame-shaped towers are intended to symbolize the elements of fire, and are a reference to Azerbaijan's nickname "The Land of Fire", historically rooted in a region where natural gas flares emit from the ground and Zoroastrian worshipers considered flames to be a symbol of the divine (notably at the Ateshgah of Baku and Yanar Dag).

The three buildings (South, East and West) consist of 130 residential apartments over 33 floors, a Fairmont hotel tower that consists of 250 rooms and 61 serviced apartments, and office blocks that provides a net 33,114 square meters of office space.

Construction

The cost of Flame Towers was an estimated US$350 million. Construction began in 2007, with completion in 2012. HOK was the architect for the project, DIA Holdings served as the design-build contractor, and Hill International provided project management.

Illumination

The Flame Towers are completely covered with LED screens that display the movement of a fire, visible from the farthest points of the city. The facades of the three Flame Towers function as large display screens with the use of more than 10,000 high-power LED luminaires, supplied by the Osram subsidiary Traxon Technologies and Vetas Electric Lighting. The light show transitions from giant flames, the colours of the Azerbaijani flag, a figure waving a flag, and giant tanks of water being filled. Transition times are approximately 2 minutes.

In culture

The buildings are featured in Extreme Engineering, a documentary television series that airs on the Discovery Channel and the Science Channel. The episode called "Azerbaijan's Amazing Transformation" was broadcast on 22 April 2011 as part of Season 9.

The Flame Towers also appeared prominently in trailers before many entries for the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 hosted in Baku (and, in the next 4 years, with the pre song trailer based in the singer's home area, features in the trailer before the Azerbaijan song).

The towers are also a prominent landmark in the video game Battlefield 4, with the first level of the single player campaign taking place in Baku. Additionally, the towers were shown frequently during coverage of the initial Formula One European Grand Prix held in Baku.

A peer-reviewed publication in 2020 noted that the Flame Towers "...are something of a Potemkin edifice in that one of the towers houses a Fairmont Hotel while the other two are unoccupied."

I took these before I verified all my books in my bookcases were in Excel. I donated many of these around 11/2017.

Ottawa, Illinois

Listed 9/18/2013

Reference Number: 13000718

The Ottawa East Side Historic District is eligible for listing to the National Register of Historic Places under Criterion C as an intact assemblage of residential architecture representing both high-style, architect-designed houses and vernacular structures spanning nearly 100 years. Ottawa's East Side remains one of the city' s most diverse collections of high-style architecture, with a number of significant Greek Revival , Italianate, Queen Anne residences from the 19th century, and Prairie, Craftsman, and Revival-style houses from the early 20th century. The district is also eligible under Criterion A, community planning and development, as a neighborhood with a unique geography and development history in Ottawa. Located on a peninsula created by the Illinois and Fox Rivers, the East Side Historic District developed as an exclusively residential area through the 19th and early 20th centuries. Because of its relative isolation from Ottawa's central business and commercial district, the East Side became a prime location for the city's early professional class, who built gracious homes on large lots, many overlooking the Fox River. As the neighborhood matured through the early 20th century, a mixture of larger homes and more modest structures were built throughout Green's original 1835 Addition, creating a more varied building stock that reflected the district's broad appeal to homeowners in Ottawa. The period of significance for the proposed district is from 1848 to 1940. The year 1848 marks the date of construction of Henry Green's house, the first to be built within the East Side district. The year 1940 marks the point at which the East Side Historic District reached residential maturity.

Name: Jack

Species: Virginia Opossum

Sex: Male

Location from: Ohio

Other: An adult male that dropped dead in my barn when I lived in a rural area in Ohio. He was found in the morning, already beginning to decay, likely died early in the night before. He has evidence of a severe infection in his lower left jaw, and a broken right top canine with sign of beginning infection in the bone of the root canal of the same tooth. His incisors are missing post mortem.

Species Info: Opossums are known for their playing-dead characteristic, which helps preserve them when faced with a threat. They have an unusually short lifespan of up to 2 years (4 in captivity) and are omnivorous, preferring fruit, grain, insects, worms, and small animals like birds and snakes.

Opossum are native to Central and East North America and most of Mexico. They are not native to West US, but a small percentage have been introduced. Opossums do not do well in cold environments and thus are not found in the majority of Canada or North-West states.

The reference area currently stores a lot of equipment and shelves.

Arisaig Canal

-

This ran from Loch nan Eala (NM 66778 85974) past Mains of Arisaig (NM 66619 86249) where there was a steam powered saw mill (according to several websites), crosses the road at NM 66145 86181 before running to the bay at NM 65821 86095.

The channel runs through solid rock much of the way and the rest is lined with masonry.

The sources say that it was used to float timber from the saw mill out to sea.

A masonry bridge crosses the canal to the Mains of Arisaig at NM 66605 86021 and there are the remains of a smaller bridge at NM 66502 86241.

The channel widens at NM 66531 86240 and there is perhaps a "quay" where the swan timber was put in the water to float out to sea.

www.wildlochaber.com/mallaig-glenfinnan/walking/strath-ar...

"The small canal, which cuts through metamorphic rock, was formed from a burn emerging from Loch nan Eala. It allowed sawn timber from the sawmill at Mains Farm to be floated to the sea loch. "

www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2074339

"There used to be a steam-driven sawmill at Mains Farm just by here and this burn flowing by was cut out and deepened so that sawn timber could be floated down to the sea. This lowered area on the far side looks like it may have been where the timber was put in to the water."
