Paschimottanasana reduces fat in the abdomen
Method: Sit on the ground and stretch the legs stiff like a stick. Catch the toes with the thumb, index and middle fingers. While catching, you will have to bend the trunk forwards. Exhale and slowly bend without jerks till your forehead touches your knees. You can keep the face between the knees also. This facilitates the bending forwards. Take your own time. There is no hurry. Young persons with elastic spine can touch the knees with the forehead even in their very first attempt. In the case of grown-up persons with rigid spinal column, it will take a fortnight or a month for complete success in the posture.
Retain the pose for 5 seconds. Then gradually increase the period to 5 minutes.

New trees along 5th Avenue at the Metropolitan Museum of Art plaza in New York, New York during their second growing season.
In 2013, 4,180 Silva Cell frames and 2,250 Silva Cell decks were installed beneath the new plaza to support 92 new trees that were planted as part of a major redesign of what is arguably one of the most popular public spaces in New York City. The Silva Cell system also allows the trees and soil to manage stormwater on-site, providing significant relief to the city's sewer system.
Once mature, the new trees contribute alongside the newly installed parasols to shade 40% of the plaza, reducing the surface temperature by up to 25 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Great White Desert of Kutch - At Sunset & after dark... shooting stars and star trails. Unbelievably there was a fair amount of light pollution.
Great Rann of Kutch
The Great Rann of Kutch is a salt marsh located in the Thar Desert in the Kutch District of Gujarat, India. It is about 7,505.22 square kilometres (2,897.78 sq mi) in size and is reputed to be one of the largest salt deserts in the world. This area has been inhabited by the Kutchi people.
The name "Rann" comes from the Hindi word ran (रण) meaning "desert". The Hindi word is derived from Sanskrit/Vedic word iriṇa (इरिण) attested in the Rigveda and Mahabharata.
The Great Rann of Kutch, along with the Little Rann of Kutch and the Banni grasslands on its southern edge, is situated in the district of Kutch and comprises some 30,000 square kilometres (10,000 sq mi) between the Gulf of Kutch and the mouth of the Indus River in southern Pakistan. The marsh can be accessed from the village of Kharaghoda in Surendranagar District.
In India's summer monsoon, the flat desert of salty clay and mudflats, which average 15 meters above sea level, fills with standing water. In very wet years, the wetland extends from the Gulf of Kutch on the west through to the Gulf of Cambay on the east.
The area was a vast shallow of the Arabian Sea until continuing geological uplift closed off the connection with the sea, creating a vast lake that was still navigable during the time of Alexander the Great. The Ghaggar River, which presently empties into the desert of northern Rajasthan, formerly emptied into the Rann of Kutch, but the lower reaches of the river dried up as its upstream tributaries were captured by the Indus and Ganges thousands of years ago. Traces of the delta and its distributary channels on the northern boundary of the Rann of Kutch were documented by the Geological Survey of India in 2000.
The Luni River, which originates in Rajasthan, drains into the desert in the northeast corner of the Rann. Other rivers feeding into the marsh include the Rupen from the east and the West Banas River from the northeast.
There are sandy islets of thorny scrub, forming a wildlife sanctuary and a breeding ground for some of the largest flocks of greater and lesser flamingos. Wildlife, including the Indian wild ass, shelter on islands of higher ground, called bets, during the flooding.
This is one of the hottest areas of India – with summer temperatures averaging and peaking at 49.5 °C. Winter temperatures reduce dramatically and can go below 0 °C (32 °F).
Many religions are found here, including Hinduism, Islam, Jainism & Sikhism.
Although most of the marsh is in protected areas, the habitats are vulnerable to cattle grazing, firewood collection and salt extraction operations, all of which may involve transportation that disturbs wildlife. There are several wildlife sanctuaries and protected reserves on the Indian side in the Rann of Kutch region. From the city of Bhuj, various ecologically rich and wildlife conservation areas of the Kutch/Kachchh district can be visited such as Indian Wild Ass Sanctuary, Kutch Desert Wildlife Sanctuary, Narayan Sarovar Sanctuary, Kutch Bustard Sanctuary, Banni Grasslands Reserve and Chari-Dhand Wetland Conservation Reserve.
In India the northern boundary of the Greater Rann of Kutch forms the International Border between India and Pakistan, it is heavily patrolled by India's Border Security Force (BSF) and Indian Army conducts exercises here to acclimatize its troops to this harsh terrain.
This inhospitable salty lowland, rich in natural gas, was one scene of perennial border disputes between India and Pakistan that, in April 1965, contributed to the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965. Later the same year, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Harold Wilson persuaded the combatants to end hostilities and establish a tribunal to resolve the dispute. A verdict was reached in 1968 which saw Pakistan getting 10% of its claim of 9,100 square kilometres (3,500 sq mi). 90% was awarded to India, although India claimed 100% of the region. Tensions spurted again in 1999 during the Atlantique incident.
The Indus river had been flowing in to Rann of Kutch area and Rann of Kutch used to be its catchment area forming part of its delta. Indus river branch called Koree river, shifted its course after an earthquake in 1819 isolating Rann of Kutch from its delta. Pakistan has constructed Left Bank Outfall Drain (LBOD) project to bypass the saline and polluted water which is not fit for agriculture use to reach sea via Rann of Kutch area without passing through the Indus delta. The 500 km long LBOD, begins from northern Ghotki district in Sindh province of Pakistan and joins Rann of Kutch in Badin district of Sindh. Rann of Kutch is joint water body of India and Pakistan. Water released by the LBOD is enhancing the flooding in India and contaminating the quality of water bodies which are source of water to salt farms spread over vast area. The LBOD water is planned to join the sea via disputed Sir Creek but LBOD water is entering Indian territory due to many breaches in its left bank caused by floods.
At night, an unexplained strange dancing light phenomena known locally as Chir Batti (ghost lights) occurs in the Rann, the adjoining Banni grasslands, and the seasonal wetlands.
The unique handicrafts of Kutch are world-famous. A lot of women and young girls make their living by selling different types of embroidered cloths. The embroidery is of various styles such as Rabari, Ahir, Sindhi, Banni, Mutwa, Ari and Soof – and some styles include mirror or bead inlay.

Study finds recent influenza vaccination is associated with an appreciable reduction in the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection and COVID-19 severity
Introduction
The influenza vaccine is protective against the influenza virus, reducing the number of cases and deaths that occur with this seasonal pathogen. Flu shots are a high priority for older adults and healthcare workers (HCWs) at a greater risk of infection and complications.
Earlier research suggests a link between SARS-CoV-2 infection/adverse COVID-19 outcomes and prior influenza vaccination. There was a need to make sure that this was not because flu shots are more likely to be taken by the health-conscious, who are also more compliant with protective health behaviors against COVID-19. This is called the healthy user effect and is a potential source of bias in such studies.
The current study, which appears on the medRxiv* preprint server, was performed in Qatar, including over 30,000 healthcare workers vaccinated against influenza during the period between September 17, 2020, and December 31, 2020, when the annual flu shots are usually given. Significantly, this was before the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines.
The vaccinated participants had a median age of 36 years, while a control group had a slightly lower median age of 35. All participants received the quadrivalent Influvac Tetra vaccine (Abbott). Cases and controls were in a ratio of 1:5.
The subjects were tested for the virus by a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test at a median of 1.5 months from vaccination. Of over 30,000 HCWs, over 12,000 were tested, with nearly 600 testing positive and 10,000 always tested negative. About two-thirds underwent testing because of COVID-19-like symptoms.
What did the study show?
The results showed that the flu shots reduced the risk of SARS-CoV-2 over the next two weeks by 30%. Conversely, they reduced the risk of severe or fatal COVID-19 by 90%. Of nearly 130 individuals who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 by PCR after taking the flu shot, one developed severe COVID-19 (requiring hospitalization), and none progressed to critical or fatal disease.
In contrast, among nearly 400 unvaccinated patients who tested positive, there were 17 severe and 2 critical cases, though no deaths occurred.
“Recent influenza vaccination is associated with an appreciable reduction in the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection and COVID-19 severity.” Striking though this statement is, it must be noted that the study included small numbers of severe cases. Nonetheless, the evidence supports the reported effectiveness of the influenza vaccine against both infection with and COVID-19 disease as a result of SARS-CoV-2.
The protection mechanism is as yet unexplained but could be due to a general rise in immunologic responsiveness enhancing nonspecific immunity or trained specific immunity. The former does not usually last beyond some weeks, and given that even specific COVID-19 vaccines are known to wane in efficacy quite rapidly, it may not play a long-term role in protection.
Trained immunity is the response of the innate immune system, the first line of defense, whereby immune memory is formed to provide long-term protection against foreign antigens.
Another effect could be due to bystander immunity, a process whereby infection and inflammation stimulate a prolonged response that exposes autoantigens to the host immune system.
More importantly, the study is not generalizable because it includes mostly young, healthy HCWs. However, this negates the healthy user bias. Overall, therefore, “The findings support benefits for influenza vaccination that extend beyond protection against influenza infection and severe disease.”

The CDC says to think again before getting a second COVID booster. Is it rationing vaccines? – Fortune
The government wants you to wait on getting that fourth vaccine shot, and it won’t say exactly why.
Americans eligible for a second COVID booster shot—including those 50 and older and the immunocompromised—may want to consider waiting before getting a fourth jab, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday, as it launched an online tool to help individuals determine if they qualify.
Per the agency’s booster guidance website, updated Friday, those who are eligible for a second booster should consider how likely they are to get “very sick” from the virus based on preexisting health issues and potential community exposure.
“If you are eligible, can you wait?” asks the guidance, urging those who have had COVID-19 in the past three months or who feel “that getting a second booster now would make you not want to get another booster in the future” to consider holding off.
“A second booster may be more important in the fall of 2022, or if a new vaccine for a future COVID-19 variant becomes available,” the guidance states.
Individuals ages 50 and older, those 12 and older who are immunocompromised, and those who received two doses of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine are eligible for a second booster shot, according to the CDC.
Updated guidance encourages those eligible to think again based on “the benefits and risks of a second booster,” but does not expound. The CDC did not respond to questions from Fortune on Friday as to what the potential risk and benefits are of a second booster, in particular, or whether there are concerns about the continued efficacy of current vaccines, especially in light of immune-evading Omicron subvariants.
It also failed to respond to questions about potential supply concerns, given a lack of renewed COVID funding by Congress. The government is running out of money to fund its efforts to combat the virus, and a $22.5 billion March ask by the Biden administration to fund, among other things, boosters and variant-specific vaccines, was pared down to $10 billion. But it’s still stuck in limbo, caught up in immigration politics, The Hill reported this week.
Meanwhile, Politico reported Friday that the White House is preparing to ration COVID vaccines in light of the continued funding impasse.
“Among the sacrifices being weighed are limiting access to its next generation of vaccines to only the highest-risk Americans—a rationing that would have been unthinkable just a year ago, when the White House touted the development and widespread availability of vaccines as the clearest way out of the pandemic,” Politico’s Adam Cancryn wrote, adding that White House officials are “increasingly concluding that these types of difficult choices will soon have to be made.”
A March 15 White House memo warned that Congress’ failure to fund additional COVID efforts “will have severe consequences as we will not be equipped to deal with a future surge.”
U.S. COVID cases have risen steeply in recent weeks, and hospitalizations have also been on the rise. Earlier this month the White House warned of a coming surge this fall and winter that could more than double the amount of COVID infections the U.S. has recorded thus far.
“Without funding, the United States will not have enough additional boosters or variant-specific vaccines, if needed, for all Americans,” the March White House memo warned.

The end result - reduced part of the way. Eventually he will fit on a finger nail - so the bit of detail I lost on the boots is not going to be very noticeable. Sad but true! :)
OK - so he's not perfect, but I got pretty darn close!
PS AND I got attitude!
According the plaque in front of it: The Wildwood Lake Morning Glory Spillway was constructed by the city of Harrisburg's Board of Public Works in 1908. This circular overflow channel is named for its resemblance to the grooved funnel shape flower of the morning glory vine. The spillway functions to control the waterflow of Paxton Creek as it runs southward from Wildwood Lake through the City of Harrisburg. The maximum discharge rate for the spillway is approximately 300 cubic feet of water per second, which is equivalent to the size of a small school bus or 2,244 gallons. The unique spillway design provides for adjustable board heights which are used to raise or lower the water elevation of Wildwood Lake. As the water level rises, storm water flows are directed to the second spillway located at the north end of Wildwood Lake. The second spillway discharges water directly into the Susquehanna River, thus reducing peak flows of Paxton Creek and providing flood protection for the City of Harrisburg.
