ICE !! lots of it !!
TWO of these 48qt coolers -- one half full of food & drinks.
the rest was all ICE !!
Some shredded but mostly those large, slow-melting blocks. The second cooler was sealed tight and wrapped in a thermal blanket so the ice would make it till the end of BM
To save gas and reduce stress on the engine while crossing the Sierra Nevada, I waited till Reno to fill the containers with ice and also filled the two 5-gallon water containers -- that was the straw that broke my camel's back. When inflated these plastic water containers were so big, they seriously messed up all my arrangements.
LESSON LEARNED -- try this @ home before leaving !!

Progressive learning and environmental education are fundamental at PS 41, a K-5 elementary school in Greenwich Village, NYC. In 2006, the school took to their roof and broke "new ground" with the NYC Department of School Construction Authority (SCA) to create The GELL Project - a Green Roof Environmental Literacy Laboratory - the first green roof ever constructed by SCA. The 15,000 sq. ft. green roof opened in the fall of 2012 and integrates into current curriculum to help teach students green building technologies, "farm-to-table" agriculture, and wildlife conservation, while also engaging them outside of the classroom. In addition, GELL diminishes PS41's carbon foot-print, reduces storm water runoff, improves air-quality, and provides a habitat for local and migratory wildlife.
Under the leadership of Principal Kelly Shannon, science teacher Vicki Sando founded GELL with the primary goal for children to reconnect with nature. The $2 million-dollar project was funded with city, state, and private grants. Working with PS 41 teachers, Architect Murphy Burnham & Buttrick designed the rooftop classroom to be both functional for students and maximized for green space. Under the direction of NYC School Construction Authority, the project engineer was Robert Silman Associates with project management by Jonathan Rose Companies. The extensive modular tray system is by Live Roof and the plant design was by Michael Yoken, with consultation by teachers and New York City Green Roofs.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (born 28 October 1956) is the sixth and current President of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He became president on 6 August 2005 after winning the 2005 presidential election by popular vote, the first president of the Islamic Republic not to be a religious cleric in 24 years. Prior to becoming president, Ahmadinejad served as mayor of Tehran, the governor general of Ardabil Province, and served in the Iran–Iraq War as a member of Army of the Guardians of the Islamic Revolution. He is not the most powerful official in Iran; that role belongs to the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei according to Article 113 of Constitution of Iran. Khamenei(Khamenei Jendeh) is the commander-in-chief of the armed forces of Iran and has the final word in all aspects of foreign and domestic policies. Ahmadinejad is a critic of the George W. Bush Administration and supports strengthened relations with Russia, Venezuela, Syria, and the Persian Gulf states. He has said Iran's nuclear program is for peaceful purposes. He has also refused to end nuclear enrichment despite United Nations Security Council resolutions. Ahmadinejad argues that the sanctions are "illegal", imposed by “arrogant powers”, and that Iran has decided to pursue the monitoring of its nuclear program through "its appropriate legal path”, the International Atomic Energy Agency. He has called for the dissolution of the state of Israel and its government, which he does not regard as legitimate or representative of the population, and for free elections in the region. He believes that the Palestinians need a stronger voice in the region's future. One of his most controversial statements was one in which, according to the initial Islamic Republic News Agency translation, he called for Israel to be "wiped off the map," though the interpretation of this quote is disputed. He has also been condemned for describing the Holocaust as a myth, which has led to accusations of anti-semitism; the interpretation of this quote is also disputed. In response to these criticisms, Ahmadinejad said “No, I am not against Jews, I respect them very much”. During his presidency, Ahmadinejad launched a gas rationing plan to reduce the country's fuel consumption and cut the interest rate for private and public banking facilities.
This is the Trojan nuclear cooling tower when it was demolished in 2006. It was hard getting a spot to take a photo from with thousands of other people who had lined the roadway to get a view.
On this day in 1923, the U.S. Patent Office grants Patent No. 1,475,074 to 46-year-old inventor and newspaperman Garrett Morgan for his three-position traffic signal. Though Morgan's was not the first traffic signal (that one had been installed in London in 1868), it was an important innovation nonetheless: By having a third position besides just "Stop" and "Go," it regulated crossing vehicles more safely than earlier signals had.
Morgan, the child of two former slaves, was born in Kentucky in 1877. When he was just 14 years old, he moved north to Ohio to look for a job. First he worked as a handyman in Cincinnati; next he moved to Cleveland, where he worked as a sewing-machine repairman. In 1907, he opened his own repair shop, and in 1909 he added a garment shop to his operation. The business was an enormous success, and by 1920 Morgan had made enough money to start a newspaper, the Cleveland Call, which became one of the most important black newspapers in the nation.

Found during a day walk in Deer cave, Mulu national park, HQ. Notice the reduced cerci, this is due to the earwig's modified lifestyle in which it has given up its predatory role and instead lives epizootically; which is to say that it lives on or around another animal in either a mutualistic or parasitic relationship. Arixenia specifically feed on the body or glandular secretions of bats (usually Malaysian hairless bulldog bats) in the folds of skin or gular pouch. Unlike other genera of earwigs, some species of Arixenia are viviparous (give birth to live young).
To a lot of people earwigs tend to provoke disgust or a feeling of unease. However this is less due to the mythology that they crawl into the ears and chew into the brain and more to do with the fact that they are typically found in places which we are inherently uncomfortable around; that is to say compost heaps, under wood or bricks and other warm and humid places. Their scuttling behaviour, and menacing pincers hardly endear them any further. Despite people's aversion, they are rather innocuous insects with only some causing damage to crops or flowers.
Earwigs display strong photophobic tendencies, retreating back into the darkness when exposed to light. Consequently they are predominantly nocturnal, their morphology supports this lifestyle, flattened, muscular bodies enabling them to wedge into cracks and crevices. However, they leave behind the safety of shelter when dusk descends whereupon they begin foraging. Diet is largely omnivorous, however some species may be more inclined towards either carnivory or herbivory. In the former case, the long cerci (pincers) are used to catch and kill their prey.
Earwigs typically live one year during which time they undergo ~5 moults. Their sexual identity becomes apparent towards the second moult when the shape of the cerci can be used as a sexual determinant: curved cerci for males and straight ones for females. Nevertheless some species may show other dimorphisms. As previously mentioned the cerci function to catch prey, but they can also be used for defense, assuming a curled up posture when feeling threatened. A more benign purpose though is to help fold their wings under the elytra/tegmina and for use in mating rituals.
Perhaps the caring parental habits of females will help to assuage people's discomfort around dermapterans. Females lay between 20-80 eggs and vigorously defend them until they hatch. During this period females clean the eggs assiduously to prevent fungal colonization of her brood. When the young do hatch the female feeds her young by regurgitating food for them and continues providing care until around the second instar stage when the young are capable of fending for themselves. Though survival is far from assured, as young earwigs have to contend with many predators, ranging from Amphibians and reptiles to Arachnids and parasitic tachinid flies.

Creating a gourmet meal from Christmas leftovers is a fantastic idea for several reasons:
Reduce Waste: Instead of letting perfectly good food go to waste, you can transform it into something new and delicious.
Save Money: Using leftovers means you don't have to buy new ingredients, which can help you save on your grocery bill.
Get Creative: It's a fun challenge to come up with new recipes and ways to use what's already in your fridge.
Impress Guests: If you have friends or family over, they'll be amazed at your culinary skills and creativity.
Nostalgia: Repurposing holiday food can bring back the festive spirit and memories of the celebrations.

I decided to beef up the insulation on the Brewtus' brew boiler and tubing pair feeding the E61 thermosiphon. Using simply some self-adhesive pipe insulation (by Armacell @ Home Depot), cable ties and a pair of scissors, these components now enjoy an additional 1/2" of thermal insulation.
I didn't insulate the steam boiler (yet) due to the possibility that it's higher operational temperature will exceed the thermal spec of the insulating material. What I am hoping to eventually achieve is reduced thermal cycling of the brew boiler, as well as hopefully being able to use a lower offset in the AKO temperature controller.
One note: the additional insulation does push the effective outer diameter of the brew boiler slightly beyond the stainless steel skins of the machine, so there will be a continuous load on the brew boiler as the insulating material is compressed underneath the cover. Not that this will be a problem for the boiler, but rather it will place some continuous stress on some of the stiffer fittings.
I did not worry about losing the E-61's thermosiphon by insulating the pair of feed tubing to the grouphead, as there should still be enough thermal loss through the grouphead to keep the thermosiphon running.
