Buildings o the old flax factory. Taken in my hometown, Żyrardów :)
Former Administration Building - It was built in 1908 to facilitate administrative needs of still growing factory. In the 1970's it houses offices of the technical department and was linked by the platform with the stocking factory. Now on the ground floor is the labor office and on other floors - the district office.

Budynek dawnej administracji - wzniesiony w 1908r. na potrzeby administracji rozwijającego się zakładu. W latach 70-tych XX wieku mieściły się w nim biura pionu technicznego i był wtedy połączony pomostem z usytuowana obok pończoszarnią. Obecnie na parterze mieści się urząd pracy, zaś na pozostałych piętrach Starostwo Powiatowe.
I stopped by this old wreck again, I find it compelling as its such an old place. The "No Parking" sign adds to it all as there's little reason to park here except the City Park across the street (Behind me). Good Hope, Illinois.
These two redbrick buildings in downtown Racine appear to have been connected with a modern atrium built between them. The corner building is the McClurg Building. It was built in 1858 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Can you imagine the listing for the Behunin Cabin in today's real estate market?

The DeSoto County Courthouse is an historic redbrick courthouse building located at 115 East Oak Street in Arcadia, Florida. Designed by architects Bonfoey & Elliott of Tampa in the Classical Revival style, it was built in 1912-1913 by the Read-Parker Construction Company to serve as DeSoto County's third courthouse and the second one built in Arcadia. It was restored in 1976 and is a contributing property in the Arcadia Historic District.
The building was designed by the Tampa architectural firm of Bonfoey & Elliott. In 1989, the DeSoto County Courthouse was listed in A Guide to Florida's Historic Architecture, published by the University of Florida Press.

Otterbein University is a private university that offers 74 majors and 44 minors as well as eight graduate programs. The university was founded in 1847 by the Church of the United Brethren in Christ and named for United Brethren founder the Rev. Philip William Otterbein.
As a result of a division and two mergers involving the church, it has been associated since 1968 with the United Methodist Church. In 2010, its name was changed back from Otterbein College to Otterbein University because of an increasing number of graduate and undergraduate programs.
It is primarily an undergraduate institution with approximately 2,300 undergraduate and 450 graduate students on the campus. Otterbein has over 100 student organizations and a popular Greek presence. Two halves of different Farco bricks, seen on the shore of the River Thames at East Tilbury (a couple of miles east of Clinker Beach).
Farco bricks were made by Farcet Brick Co. in Farcet, Peterborough: it operated from 1896 to 1921, after which it was sold to the London Brick Company - according to brocross.com the London Brick Company was (estimated) to have provided one third of all bricks used in brick built houses in England !

Prescott Lighthouse
A redbrick building, constructed along the waterfront in Prescott in 1900 by the Imperial Starch Company, served as a Dominion Lighthouse Depot from 1903 to 1985. During World War II, war materials were manufactured in the building. The Canadian Coast Guard occupied the building in 1962 but moved into a new facility in 1985, and the old lighthouse depot was demolished in 1986.
An oversized lantern room that was mounted atop the lighthouse depot and used to train lighthouse keepers was retained and placed atop a tower built by the local Rotary Club at the harbour in 1989. The base of the modern tower is home to an ice cream shop during the summer, and visitors were allowed to climb the tower and admire a Fresnel Lens for some time, but due to a change in building codes climbing to the top is no longer permitted.
Since 2003, the St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival has been presenting plays in an outdoor amphitheater near the harbour in July and August.

Czersk is a small town, 39 km from the center of Warsaw, in Piaseczno County. Czersk’s main tourist attraction is its medieval brick castle which was built on a hill between 1398 and 1406 for the Mazovia Prince - Janusz I. It had three towers and curtains which were 8 meters high and almost 2 meters thick. Czersk became the capital of the Mazovian Duchy due to its significant settlement along the Vistula river. Queen Bona Sforza, among others, lived in the castle.
In the 15th century, however, the Vistula river shifted its bed, moving away from Czersk. As a consequence the site fell into obscurity and the castle began to decay. During the war with the Swedes, in 1656, the castle became partly ruined. The retreating land army, close to Warta, under Stefan Czarniecki's command had captured the stronghold and had devastated it. The castle went through a reconstruction between 1762–1766, when Marszałek Franciszek Bieliński had commanded the reconstruction of the stronghold. However, due to the Prussian Partition, the Prussian leader had ordered for the demolition of the castle's defense walls, reducing the stronghold's military importance. From that time, nobody had every again took on the reconstruction of the castle. From the once mighty stronghold, all of the towers; a brick bridge from the eighteenth century; and the north and east wing of the castle had all survived. Today the castle ruins and the pituresque village have become tourist attractions. The towers were recently renovated and there is a fantastic view of the Vistula River valley from their terraces.

Jedna z wież zamkowych w Czersku widziana od strony dziedzińca.
Czersk- dawne miasto, obecnie wieś w gminie Góra Kalwaria w powiecie piaseczyńskim. Jedno z najstarszych miast na Mazowszu i stolica jednego z księstw dzielnicowych. Miasto założone przed 1350 rokiem. Miejsce obrad sejmików ziemskich ziemi czerskiej od XVI wieku do pierwszej połowy XVIII wieku. Obecnie Czersk znany jest głównie z ruin średniowiecznego zamku książąt mazowieckich, które są główną atrakcją turystyczną tej małej miejscowości i równocześnie jednym z najcenniejszych zabytków na Mazowszu. W XI wieku w miejscu dzisiejszego zamku istniał drewniano ziemny gród o konstrukcji izbicowej, który został zbudowany w czasach panowania Bolesława Śmiałego lub Władysława Hermana. W XIV wieku książę mazowiecki Janusz I, rozkazał w miejscu przestarzałego grodu zbudować ceglany zamek, który powstał w latach 1388 - 1410. Była to jedna z najważniejszych rezydencji księcia Janusza I, który zmarł na tym zamku w dniu 8 grudnia 1429 roku. Gdy tereny te zostały przyłączone do Królestwa Polskiego w 1526 roku, zamek stał się własnością królewską. W tym też okresie nadbudowano cylindryczne wieże. Od 1547 roku zamek podlegał królowej Bonie, która nakazała wymianę drewnianej zabudowy dziedzińca na murowaną. W czasie Potopu szwedzkiego, w 1656 roku, zamek w Czersku doznał bardzo poważnego uszczerbku, zaś po III rozbiorze Polski i objęciu Czerska przez Prusaków mury zostały częściowo zburzone. Od tego czasu zamek jest zrujnowany. Do dzisiaj zachowana jest większość murów zamku oraz wszystkie trzy wieże (Brama, Południowa i Zachodnia), z których można podziwiać panoramę okolicy. Obecnie ruiny zamku udostępnione są zwiedzającym.
Early C19 building, actually comprising 3 dwellings, numbers 86 and 86A doors on left return. 2 storeys plus cellar, Doric pilaster doorcase with pediment. Grade II listed. Farnham, Surrey, UK.
This is a four-frame panorama (two above, two below) of a corner block of shops, chambers and flats. Designed by Robert J Worley, it was built in 1901-02 and features red brick, buff terracotta and a slate roof. Historic England describe the style as Free Jacobethan.
The four-storey building is four windows wide on Ryder Street (above), with a seven-window return to Bury Street (round the corner above). The ground floor has original shop fronts, with wood-transomed and -framed windows and doors, between panelled pilasters supporting entablature. The upper floors have mullioned and transomed casement windows, round-headed in narrow bays and with two-storey oriel bows, to the first and second floors to Bury Street and two through the second and third floors to Ryder Street.
Ornate terracotta columns articulate to the first floor, which has a terracotta balustraded balcony, bowed in front of narrow bays. There is terracotta quoining dressing the window openings and terracotta strings at transom level. - Historic England
This building is 31-35 Bury Street and 19-23 Ryder Street in the St James' district of the City of Westminster. The entirety of Ryder Street belongs to the British Crown, and is administered by the Crown Estates Office.
Arnold Wiggins & Sons, the current residents of this Grade II listed building are picture framers providing both antique and reproduction frames for Old Master and Modern paintings and works on paper. Wiggins are renowned for their extensive stock of antique frames, craftsmanship and framing advice. The current head of the firm has held the Royal Warrant as Picture Frame Maker to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and Her Majesty The Queen since 1991. He regularly lectures on the history and craftsmanship of picture frames and has published articles on the subject.
City Hall was built in 1908 as one of the world’s largest YMCA branches, designed to be a significant community center. In 1929, the YMCA moved to a new facility on Monument Avenue.
The city government moved into this building in the 1940s. It features early 20th century architecture and remains a central fixture in downtown Dayton’s civic life.

On 161 Henry St,the northwest corner of Pierrepont Place,Schneider and Hueter (architects of the building) developed a Beaux-Arts style (a fine arts style,categorized by the historical forms and rich decorative detail) apartment building in 1906.9-stories high,161 Henry St has a rustic limestone base with a red brick and limestone trim including quoins (the angled masonry blocks at the corners) above it.Particularly distinguishing is its mansard crown and eight massive limestone brackets (count them) at the seventh floor Pierrepont Place side and seventeen brackets facing Henry St.While Beaux-Arts wasn't a popular style of the time,the distinguish nature of this building stands above the bland architecture of the modern period adding to the beauty that architects have developed in Brooklyn Heights since it's formation.Amen to that!-Architecture in Brooklyn Heights macaulay.cuny.edu

It was a beautiful day last Sunday and while out walking the dogs this lovely Victorian style house caught my eye . . . initially I loved the shadows created by the lovely patterned iron work but I also loved all of the rich Autumn reds . . . a perfect pairing for this warming cappuccino who's grey cup and saucer just happened to match the door and window frame here beautifully!
