Die Rose wird seit der griechischen Antike als „Königin der Blumen“ bezeichnet. Rosen werden seit mehr als 2000 Jahren als Zierpflanzen gezüchtet.
These are a couple of juveniles ("red efts") of the Eastern Newt (Notophthalmus viridescens) that were on a hiking trail on our property in Mars Hill, NC. Efts often emerge after rains and can be seen roaming the forest floor during the day. They are loaded with skin toxins and the bright colors serve as warning coloration to potential predators.
... in our little garden universe :-))

This was a little project that turned into more work that it should have. I ended up having to make too many orders from bricklink.com, and one that took way too much time.
Hope you all enjoy. More pictures can be seen at www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?m=thirdwigg.
I'm stuck in the house at the moment with a bad chest infection so thought I'd try an indoor flower shoot.
Getting the light right is the hardest part, I was either washing out the colours and textures or getting some very harsh shadows. In the end I went with a natural side light from moving closer to the window, but its still pretty harsh.
Now I know why people use/make full on light boxes and have 3000 flashes!

This vixen was amazingly habituated to people and visited our cottage most days, probably in hope of finding some tasty morsels left unattended.
I know I have posted these before but all of them look different to me. I so love the car wash....and yeah - i am anal and love a clean car.
Red crab on the coast of Orissa, India.
They were all over the beach (see picture below). Each one makes a home which is a hole in sand. They are very shy. The moment I stepped on the beach, all crabs within 50 meters around me disappeared into their homes. I had to stay motionless for about 15 minutes before this one came out. It quickly went back in. It was quite far ... I had to use all my optical and digital zooms (40x) to get this shot.

A few more from our photo club outing called Trash the Dress. It was chilly ,and Happy looked so pretty wrapped in red.
Raindrops on red petals. Picture created from a focus stack of 20 photos taken with a Canon 35mm macrophoto lens mounted on bellows. The subject was illuminated by diffused flash.
