The biggest reason I believe this to be one of my best images is mostly because of the striking vivacity of colors. I have always had an affinity towards landscape photography and I have taken many pictures of this mountain, but the opportunity presented itself and I made sure to capture the colors nature was presenting. It is a picture that immediately captures the attention of the viewer, something I am always trying to do and this image is one that does that well. The image does more than show just color though. I captures silhouettes with the shadows of the trees and makes a lovely demonstration of positive and negative space. The lines from the shape of the mountain also leads the viewer towards the most striking part of the image: the pink clouded sky.

"Ikigai", that Japanese concept that alludes to reason and balance, seems to be a guiding thread in Manuel Castillero's artistic search. Pursuing your curiosities and unraveling that mystique, that purpose, is what makes it so interesting. His work does not fail to generously offer a space that allows us to see ourselves reflected in it, feed back on it, make it our own.

Thus, Castillero's painting not only explores its own raison d'être, but suggests that we inhabit in our own flesh the body of the explorers that we find in his pieces. And it is precisely there, in that invitation, where the power of this exhibition lies; the explorers are not the others, they are us, or at least we could be. Through his art, Castillero invites us to rediscover those spaces, to inhabit solitude, to resonate with the human in every corner of his landscapes. Ikigai is perhaps a device that allows us to return to those places and reflect on the particular relationship we have with them.

In one of our talks, Manuel confessed to me: “dystopia is also our mirror. That exercise of imagination raises doubts and problems that are fascinating. They put us in front of a mirror that shows how our species behaves in borderline situations, sometimes pessimistically and other times with wonderful optimism." And that reflection is alive in his work. In his paintings, that tension between the possible and the improbable, between nostalgia and the future, resonates strongly; a desperate struggle between what we are and what we fear or hope to become.

It's as if every corner, every window or every sprout of weeds alludes to the fragility of the familiar, to the impossibility of staying in the beloved. His work is an ode to longing and the feeling of not belonging.

I was just looking to her shots when I red the news about Mladic capture.

I felt a strange feeling reading about present declarations and remembering Giulia

stories told by women , mothers and wives.

I tryied to think different like I wrote in my last posts; I thought that history is always

written by winners , never by loosers.

Like now during the Lybian military action we read about crimes against

humanity but sometimes I don't understand what humanity.

At last I see only bodies , names , lifes broken and by the other side

only words, empty words , empty reasons , lack of reason.

Only a terrible silence , the silence created by mind sleeping refuses

so many holocausts, not one only.

This silence comes back like a wave, and each time creates monsters.

But each days our consciousness improves, grows.

Even if the situation seems never change , so many time we feel ourself

confused among so many actors wearing so many masks, we can understand

and , the most important thing, we can remember.

Io stavo proprio guardando i suoi scatti quando ho letto le notizie

sulla cattura di Maldic.

Io ho provato uno strano sentimento leggendo le dichiarazioni di oggi

e ricordando le storie di Giulia raccontate da donne , madri , mogli.

Ho quindi cercato di pensare in modo diverso come ho scritto nei miei ultimi post;

ho pensato che la storia è sempre scritta dai vincenti, mai dai perdenti.

Come ora durante l'azione militare libica noi leggiamo di crimini contro l'umanità

ma qualche volta non capiamo quale umanità.

Alla fine vedo solo corpi , nomi , vite spezzate e dall'altra parte solo parole,

parole vuote , ragioni vuote , mancanza di ragione.

Solo un silenzio terribile , il silenzio creato dalla mente che dorme rifiuta così

tanti olocausti, non uno solo.

Questo silenzio ritorna come un'onda, ed ogni volta crea mostri.

Ma ogni giorno la nostra consapevolezza aumenta , cresce.

Anche se la situazione sembra non cambiare mai e così spesso ci sentiamo

confusi fra tanti attori che hanno tante maschere,

noi possiamo comprendere e , cosa più importante , noi possiamo ricordare.

Dr. Anurag Batra is a serial Entrepreneur and mentor to many successful entrepreneurs. He also an author, TV show host and an angel investor and the founder of the iconic exchange4media group and chairman BW Businessworld group. According to him, India needs more sportsmanship. As Indians we do not support failure, we only celebrate success and the beauty about sports is that it helps you celebrate failure.

Addressing India's sports Congress held 6 years ago, Anurag Batra the chairman of BW Businessworld stressed 2 things. One is the fact, that he believes that India has been media core. It’s a debatable topic and one can either agree or disagree with his statement. It’s because India does not have a sports culture. According to Anurag Batra, India’s media core is everything. India hasn’t produced a lifesaving drug or we haven’t done an invention that changes life. We are doing the Flipkart for the world which is great but they are cheap imitations of what happens in the West and he believes the reason we haven’t got a product or service that is world-class out of India, in the way Silicon Valley does it, is because we do not have a sports culture.

As Indians we do not support failure, we only celebrate success and the beauty about sports is that it helps you celebrate failure. Because there is nothing like a failure, there’s another game tomorrow. you can extend like that so there is no failure. He thinks sports as a culture glue, as a game-changer in the real sense of the nation’s destiny can play a big role. And he is particularly happy that BW has been doing conferences like this in exchange for media for the last 10 years and we’ve been talking about how non-cricket sports should come to the forefront. when this conference is conducted in the last 3 years, for the first time we can say that non-cricket sports are finally coming to the Fort. He means tomorrow we are the protesting league starting who imagine 5 years back there. Be it a pro wrestling league and you know every possible sport is getting more attention more money and more mind space which occurs well for this country.

Anurag Batra has 2 young children and if there is a choice on their career, he would want them to be sportspeople for the reason that I told him explained above. He also mentioned the event conducted by his team may act as a catalyst to the development of sports in the country.

Chairman of BW Businessworld Mr Anurag Batra believes India is struggling to get one of the top positions. Being a developing nation from more than 5 decades, India is still on the path of development. He concluded by saying we should worship sports as a religion, study as a science and play with enthusiasm as it accepts failures and encourages and inspires to win the next.

Now, for some reason, I look *good* in purple. Spectrally, it's kinda awesome. It's a mixture of blue and red. You can get it with a nice violet spectral peak that sets off your L and S cones... such that you can achieve it with a single spectral peak down around 400 nm or you can achieve it with a combination of red and blue primaries on your screen (or the magenta primary, depending on if you are talking about the positive primaries or negative primaries). So women tend to buy me purple shirts (because, as we all know, men are unable to dress themselves... which is somewhat of a lie)

Now, I was bullied in school. High school wasn't so bad, actually. Most of that petered out around freshman-sophomore years. The real inflection point that, in retrospect, I'm somewhat surprised I made it past, was around 5th grade to freshman year. But I was just *weird*. There's no moral outrage against the weird kid, everybody just teases him because they can't understand why he does what he does.

Being gay, well that's different. See, folks in the Midwest think that, because everybody is carefully closeted if they don't believe the right-leaning mainstream beliefs, that they are normal moderate rational people. Gay people asking to be able to sue if they are denied housing for being gay? That's *special rights* and everybody agrees with that in the midwest.

Perhaps I did believe that, as a kid. Because I'm just not attracted to the same sex. So I was weird, but at least I was straight... or something? It's a sensitive thing, although I'm over it by now. Because, in the interests of not making my place in the pecking order worse, it used to really *get* to me if you accused me of being even the slightest bit *girly* or *effete* or *gay*.

I also said some stupid stuff that, in retrospect, I'm sorry I said. At least I know better now.

Eventually, I realized that it's all bollocks. Reactionaries and fascists alike need enemies to unify folks against. It really doesn't matter who you demonize, just as long as there aren't enough of them to actually fight back and it helps if people already sorta don't like them. So the "anti-gay" thing is just another one of those ways to bring fascism to America.

So, yeah, that's why I'm wearing purple today. Because there's nothing wrong with a gay kid.

For some reason I couldn't help but think of the gangs of New York in this photo. when you look ant the great cultural and ethnic groups that comprise what a city is, seeing a bunch of kilted men marching up the sidewalk on Tartan Day just reminded me of a gang.

Somehow and for reasons... freedom (liberty), familiarity, life... a sense of exaltation and distance the same one sky across all stages of humankind, seems most appropriate for the moment. "The Remembrance Day silence originates in Cape Town, South Africa where there was a daily three minute silence, known as the Three Minute Pause, initiated by the daily firing of the noon day gun on Signal Hill. This was instituted by the then Cape Town Mayor, Sir Harry Hands, on 14 May 1918: one minute was a time of thanksgiving for those who had returned alive, the second minute was to remember the fallen. During the silence a bugler played the Last Post and then Reveille to signal the end of the silence. Remembrance and never again? I often wonder what happened that extra minute. My memory when young was one of 3 very long minutes and not two!. The extra minute (daily) would give us time to reflect on what our future should look like. It appears that not one politician has spent a minute seriously looking at the humanitarian migration crisis now ill prepared for the continental winter.

There is only 1 reason why I continue to do this stupid, ridiculous and crazy 366 challenge......and that is my DH who keeps on saying "but you are so close". Ok, I am but still it is so freakin' far away too. I haven't been able to do anything I have been happy with for the longest time and it is almost working against me now!

Anyways, I am not going to be doing much exciting for some time - until my family has left at least as that is my focus for now!

AUGH!!!!!!

For some reason I am fascinated with this plant. I love the flowers. I am very happy that this plant had 3 inflorescences and 25 flowers this year! This was its best performance for me by far. December was unusually warm so I think that helped prevent damage to the buds. I had this hanging too high to the top of my shadehouse and the spikes were grew crooked because they were touching the shadecloth, but I saw what was going on and moved the plant to prevent further damage. I have to remount this plant for next year and that's a task I'm not familiar or comfortable with doing. I fear the inevitable damage to the roots will set the plant back, but it has run out of room.

Reading is fun.

Books are treasured.

I never know when or where I might find one of the boys completely engrossed...
