I've been doing a lot of street photography lately and one thing that's been catching my eyes is mannequins. They stand in windows, tall and thin like every woman wants to be and wear the most fashionable cloths an many people can't afford. Models of beauty that you imagine yourself in place of, right?
As I take more shots of mannequins I am starting to see something kind of garish and freaky about them.

or perhaps expanding it, if the idea of reality is just a big foggy concept.
Well we got some snow, finally, but the greys developed a subtlety that would have required prefixes like, grey, greyer, supergreyer, gray-ve, subgrey, and so forth...so if I tell you this was the high point of my photography outdoors for the last week, you probably get the idea.
Last Sunday I participated in my first photography contest, and basically it was a walk through around the city of Old San Juan for six hours, taking two pictures for every two topics. It was a very exciting yet nervous day because it was my first competition ever, and there were over forty contestants. But at the end of the day I was quite happy with the results, and I can't wait to see who wins.
All the entries had to be in JPEG and they could not be edited using any kind of editing softwares. Any changes had to be made inside the camera. Basically what you see is what truly happened, and no changes were applied to the pictures.
I'll let the title describe the picture. The title of each picture was the topic of that round.

Bloated Reality GaliMuscle(2009)

Three years ago CREW presented U (raging standstill) at Artefact. This year, you can experience a new version of this controversial experiment. In W (double U), you see the world through another person's eyes. CREW has been investigating virtual reality and digital technologies in their performances for years.
Every 40 minutes, two visitors put on a helmet with a screen in front of their eyes and a camera on their head. From then on, they watch the world with the 'eyes' of the other one. Both have to find their way through the STUK building, depending on each other's instructions. W is a highly intense experience that forces us to question our trust in our own senses.

About Crew :
Led by Eric Joris, Crew is one of the most experimental performance collectives in Flanders. For several years now, they have been researching virtual reality and digital technology in their performances.
"In 2008, as part of the IBBT's (Institute for Broadband Technology in Ghent) Art&D program, CREW received a grant to conduct research in collaboration with Philippe Bekaert of EDM (Expertise Centre for Digital Media of the University of Hasselt). The project enhances technological R&D for CREW, a pioneer in 'technological theatre'. More specifically, the project will focus on the development of three wide-area position and orientation tracking systems for on-stage use. These systems need to be easy to set up in a short time by theatre technicians, they need to be sufficiently reliable for live performance and at the same time be affordable and scalable to tens of targets. This technological development will be used in almost all of CREW's future projects, in first instance in O_Rex and W (double you)."

Don't worry, it's not the effects of a drought. The top pond at Etherow Park has been drained for maintenance work.
Reality: your shoes are little too big for your feet (at least for today), your pajamas are mismatched & I think the only reason you have kept this band-aid on is because daddy wrote your name on it.
I hope you will not look back at this picture years from now as a bunch of imperfections but instead see the beauty in the details of your childhood.
