The delicate shoot of a baby fern reaching out of the water of the jar it is growing in. This was taken through the side of the jar, the sparkly bokeh in the foreground is the water filled with plant material and oxygen bubbles. I just thought it made for a nice picture.
After almost three days of not washing my hands due to lack of water during an army operation, this is the result.
After losing a large branch in the recent strong breezes, it seems the rest of this lovely old Scots Pine has to go.

Coke ovens, Elk Valley, BC, 2010
I set out to explore these deteriorating coke ovens (used for making coal) along the old CPR line in the Elk Valley and was pleasantly surprised by the sun shining through a remnant open hole in the top of this one. Needless to say, I made a little time to play.
On May 9, nearly 320 leaders from Chicago's business, civic and philanthropic communities came together in support of SGA Youth and; Family Services for the Reach for the Stars; annual benefit dinner at the Adler Planetarium. SGA is pleased to announce that the event raised nearly $500,000 in support of the many programs and services the agency offers to change the trajectories of young Chicagoans.
The agency was honored to present Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle with the Jean S. Meltzer Award in recognition of her deep commitment to improve the lives of Chicago youth and their families. Former SGA client and successful entrepreneur Joseph Pedott was the recipient of our inaugural Founders Award honoring his many years of extraordinary generosity and exceptional advocacy to benefit SGA Youth and Family Services and the communities served.
Host Jon Siskel, Emmy Award-Winning Documentarian and Film Maker, introduced the outstanding young poets of Louder Than a Bomb. In his address, Mr. Siskel reiterated the moral and economic imperative of equipping our youth with the skills to lead successful adult lives. The poets of Louder Than a Bomb shared stirring, heartfelt renditions of their award winning slam-poetry.
