Kindness is not without its rocks ahead. People are apt to put it down to an easy temper and seldom recognize it as the secret striving of a generous nature; whilst, on the other hand, the ill-natured get credit for all the evil they refrain from.

- Honore De Balzac, novelist (20 May 1799-1850)

Even with her spiky-heeled pointy-toe boots, she went out of her way to help the older lady get across the slippery ice in the parking lot. On Eastlake Avenue, in Seattle.

My daughter-in-law's 39th birthday was this week and she decided to do 39 random acts of kindness that day. I found this heartfelt note on my door which literally made my day. Some of the other things she did were baked cookies and thank you notes for the fire and police department, lottery tickets on windshields. survival kits for homeless people, and a pile of quarters left at the laundromat.

What a wonderful idea! I wish I'd heard about it before I was 66...lol

“For every fear that shakes your peace,

For every night you feel alone,

For every moment you lose a little hope,

There is an angel who whispers,

I am here.”

Well, it finally happened... after nine years of work, I finally experienced what everyone else has...

I finally got yelled at by a customer. Wow... she was a doozy. I was on my way back from the office when

she called me... or shall I say DEMANDED my attention in the Misses department. And she proceeded to

scream at me because she couldn’t reach the two tops that she wanted. (BTW... do you know how tall I am?

She was probably taller than me). I tried to defuse her, but she just got louder. I handed her the tops and

ran away and as I was leaving, she was mumbling about “Now where did that other woman go?” in the nastiest

tone of voice that you can imagine. “That other woman” was my manager and when she freed herself from Ms.

Congeniality, she came over, put her arm around me and said, “Torrie, you’re creative, do you think you can take

care of this? I just had a woman that yelled at me because we need benches with backs on them, because she

can’t stand that long and needs to sit and rest while she’s shopping... so could you get right on that and maybe add

some backs to the benches in the shoe department.” Yeah, I’ll get right on that... as long as I can move the benches into

the misses department because I don’t want that woman sitting in MY department! Nastiest woman I have ever met! Wow!!

And then I had to go back into my department and clean up a taco on the floor in front of the stockroom door.

A taco. Who eats tacos while shopping? ( I could also ask, who serves their family a chicken dinner in the shoe department?, because

THAT used to happen every Sunday night for awhile.) And then, insert fist pump here.... I said... YES!! I DID, I MADE THE RIGHT DECISION!! (in changing jobs)

I did feel bad about getting yelled at, and about people that keep telling me that it won’t be any fun without me, (because no one else

will lay in the memory foam bed... and encourage everyone else to do the same... and take pictures... and it doesn’t matter to me that they have installed cameras that are piped into corporate... man, it’s comfy!!) and I feel bad about a whole chain of events that has transpired because of me

giving up my full time position, and I feel bad because staying on there part time through the holiday season is not going to be a picnic for me, either, but I have to do it. So, I finally left work, feeling sad because someone called after me as I was leaving... “Tor, we’re really going to miss you.” I had a couple of

annoying errands to do before I went home that were also upsetting. And by the time I was finally in my car heading home, I was in tears. (So I decided to buy a pumpkin, thinking that carving a pumpkin will make me feel better. I haven’t started it yet.)

I was sitting here editing some of the baseball photos from the alumni game that Warner’s son is waiting for, and I got a text message from a co-worker telling me to call her

husband. I did, listened, and thanked him for putting his neck on the line for something he’s doing and he said.... “No, Torrie. I am putting my neck on the line for you. It’s for you. I am doing it for YOU.”

And I thought.... so what if some stupid woman yelled at me, and lots of bad things are happening.... somewhere along the line, in the midst of all the bad decisions I have made, and all of the

things that I have done and said that were wrong... I must have done something right. Somewhere along the line, I didn’t totally screw up, because I have friends that treat me like family, and their families

treat me like family. So, I decided that it’s OK that people that don’t matter think it’s OK to treat me like crap, because every once in awhile, and usually when I need it the most, I find out that someone out there has my

back, that there are still really good people left out there. Wow. To someone that will never see this, Thank you. ♥

Thank God. Angels. Real. life. angels.

The photo: A plaster angel that I found in the mansion that I shot photos in last week. I just added it to a pile of architectural pieces.

Thanks for being awesome. Little cards made from recycled food boxes. We love giving these to people throughout the day when they do anything to be kind or otherwise cool. Tiny gesture that reaps a huge smile.

had a working lunch with H and she whipped out a buncha capsules out of her bag, offering one of them...vitamin C!

it's happened before, people often give each other vitamins they carry in their bag or tonic drinks from the corner shop to colleagues or when they drop in.

Give a Random Act of Kindness card!

Today is Random Acts of Kindness Day. Our trooper decided to assist an elderly stormtrooper with a sponge bath as he thought this would be a kind thing to do.

This is an alternative version for one of my daily shots of 365 Days of Clones.

There is nothing better then a complete stranger in the car ahead of you buying your breakfast or coffee in the morning...or helping you reach something on the top shelf of the grocery store, plugging your parking meter, or merely a kind smile and hello. We all get lost in the hustle and bustle of the season...so, I thought this might be a nice WAW Challenge to close the year, and start in the new one! If you would like to share your "kindness" please repost this photo and describe what you did (optional), it may inspire others! The whole idea of this is to do something KIND for a random stranger. I'm sure most of you have heard of this before, and probably done it many times too...if not, how about, NOW! There are loads of things on the internet if you search "Random Act of Kindness." Also, if you really want to get into it...you can print off messages from your card stock from this site...

...if you would also like to do a Blythe theme...it's the colors RED AND GREEN this week! :D

Feel free to share any personal ideas on "acts" in the comments here.

Some people may like extra ideas!

**Just to be clear...I do not expect you to photograph the "act". Just take this LOGO photo I posted above and repost it on your stream and add to the group (WAW). It's your choice if you would like to tell what random act it represents. :) Merely seeing it show up over and over (hopefully) in the group, we will know you have participated! www.flickr.com/groups/1045728@N21/

Random Acts of Kindness (look up the group on Facebook).

This is all the work of a local person who crochets the PostBox Topper for this particular pillar box.

I went to Panera Bread today to have lunch when something unexpected, yet pleasant happend. As I was in about to pay for my meal, a gentleman beside me in line leaned over and gave the cashier his credit card and said "Its on me". I went on to protest but he handed me a business card and said "This will explain everything". I was in shock and disbelief at first, and then I graciously thanked him for buying me lunch. So now I faithfully carry this card looking for my random act of kindness and hope that person will do the same.

probably my favorite random act out of the book, someone recently did this for me ♥

Backstage after the Grammys,

Taylor Swift came back to

pose and answer questions -

and before the cameras,

trying to balance four

Grammy awards, she dropped

one, and it broke.

She was a little stunned,

but everyone yelled, "It's

okay, they have plenty. They'll

get you another one."

today was day 3 of Ethan's 103 degree fever and day 4 of me not leaving the house. Matt sent me out to get some air and run a few errands. as always, i ended up at the Goodwill. (the one place that makes me feel happy!) i found some decent treasures: these pictures (not marked or dated) a few books for Ethan, a bag of vintage glass Christmas ornaments and a skein of hand spun wool yarn. the bill totaled up to $6.42, a number that often pops up at weird times. it was Matt's old house number, the time that was on the clock when i went into premature labor, ect...

the woman in line behind me asked me about my stuff: "are those books for your child... are you going to knit a scarf with that wool?" then she asked me if she could buy my stuff for me... she would like to give me a New Years gift. I really didn't know what to say, so i said yes. --i started to cry and asked her if i could give her a hug.

this is the same woman i had overheard earlier talking about her perfume scent..." it is Clinique Happy, don't you just love it!" i think that every time i smell that perfume, it will truly make me "happy!"
