Because I truly cannot find my own voice in expressing my gratitude to my dear flickr friend, Danny Mansmith,
I have chosen some quotations which speak to me.
I met Danny years ago and have ordered various art works from him from time to time. Inside every package he generously encloses some of his whimsies, bits of ephemera, and amazing Polish paper cuts, aka *wycinanki* . . . His original works of art are part of his genius. My favorites are the clutch bags, all stitched meticulously on his vintage sewing machine. Seeing is believing! I think it's now time for me to make a special album for Danny . . . check it out!
Two days ago I received a *surprise* package, filled with the silhouettes which I have placed together to tell a bit of a story.
Because Danny is solely on Instagram, I rarely see him over here, but I do know he has seen my recent Monarch butterfly adventure!
I can't help but think that tweaked something within his brain and inspired the above random paper art and sewn pieces!
The little girl in the lower right hand corner was totally hand-stitched (as is all of Danny's work), and she has amazing moving parts!
ENJOY! And if you have a chance, you can click on Danny's flickr site which is still up, but not active, or go to his Instagram account, and please tell him I sent you!

This is one of my rock painting creations which is painted and hidden for someone to find as part of my involvement in Love on the Rocks UK - Love on the rocks uk (Painting Rocks ~ finding and hiding).
This Random Acts of Kindness group describes itself like this on the home page ... "this is how the group works... paint a rock, write love on the rocks uk on the back and hide it! Then make a stranger smile when they find it!
If your lucky enough to be a finder, you may keep your treasure or rehide it for someone else to find, thank you for posting your find and where you found it in the group. It's very exciting to know who found your rock and great to see them travel!"

i've gotta have you, i've gotta have you.
It's the simple things that make me the happiest. Everyone always says that I'm easy to please and it's true. Because I strongly believe that it's the thought that counts. The second you take out of your day to think and do something for someone else. Notes left on the kitchen table, texts to say goodnight, a cupcake brought home from a party, unexpected emails, an Amy Adams replacement, a coffee from my mom on her way home from work. It all makes this life that much better.
I try to do my best to do the same for others. To bring at least a little bit happiness into peoples days. Even if only for a second. What's better than making someone smile?
Anyway, something that makes me really happy? Starbucks holiday cups. Simple but awesome enough to make me smile for extra long at the counter.
Oh, and a happy thanksgiving to you all. We all know I have my reservations about this holiday but it doesn't make me any less grateful.

Everything.
The current series at Indy Metro Church is entitled 'Everything'. The focus is simple, yet profound...an act of generosity, big or small, will produce a ripple effect that will impact each person it touches.
As the church, we are committed to living generously and inspiring others to do the same. This recent 'challenge' has further fueled my desire to live a Christ-centered, grace-filled, life of generosity.
I'd like to share a couple quick stories in hopes that you will be spurred to take a step outside of you comfort zone and let that chain of generous events start happening wherever you are.
Dollar Store.
Last weekend, I ran into the dollar store to grab a couple things and noticed a older woman and a sweet little lady she kept calling mother. As I overheard bits and pieces of their conversation, I just wanted to 'awww' at their comments about the cheesy knick-knacks.
As I walked to the checkout, they stepped in line behind me. I heard the daughter say, "Mom, that is beautiful." As I turned to see what she had picked up, the mom was holding one of those dream catchers, telling her daughter that it would bring her good luck (I didn't think that was how those 'worked' but...nonetheless).
I swiped my card and the cash back option popped up. I quickly turned around to count how many items the ladies had sat on the counter. (This dollar store happened to be a 'real' dollar store...where everything is actually a dollar.) I chose my cash back amount and as the cashier handed me my $10 bill, I handed it right back and asked her to put it toward the ladies behind me.
My attempt to be discreet about the whole thing, was foiled by the cashiers response. She kept asking what I meant and looking at me like I was a crazy person. But, I guess that is a valid response to our culture's 'it's all about me' attitude.
Gatorade.
Today, I was on my way to drop a carload of stuff off at Goodwill and drove by a couple guys holding up those side-of-the-road-advertising signs...you know, like the Cash 4 Gold ones. It wasn't extremely hot, but it was the middle of the afternoon and pretty sunny...so, I decided I'd stop and buy them a cold drink.
I drove up to the next gas station, bought them each a Gatorade and pack of cookies and headed back to drop off the little snack. I hoped out of my car and walked up to them. I'll admit, it was a little awkward at first, but that didn't last long. The first guy asked me why I was doing this and I told him just because...he asked if he could give me a hug. The second guy was a little hessitant to take my tiny gift and told me to give it to the other guy.
I told them to have a good one and started walking back to my car. As I turned around the second guy yelled at me and asked to 'see my ink'. So, I walked back and I got to explain what my tattoos meant and before I knew it, he was talking my ear off.
He showed me an old gang-related tattoo on his arm that he was in the process of getting covered up. He told me about the amazing things Jesus had done in his life and how He had rescued him. He even invited me to his church.
The three of us chatted a little while longer as the traffic zoomed by and then I jumped in my car and drove away.

This photo was taken on 12th Street between Greenwich and West 4th St.
***************
This set of photos is based on a very simple concept: walk every block of Manhattan with a camera, and see what happens. To avoid missing anything, walk both sides of the street.
That's all there is to it …
Of course, if you wanted to be more ambitious, you could also walk the streets of Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and the Bronx. But that's more than I'm willing to commit to at this point, and I'll leave the remaining boroughs of New York City to other, more adventurous photographers.
Oh, actually, there's one more small detail: leave the photos alone for a month -- unedited, untouched, and unviewed. By the time I actually focus on the first of these "every-block" photos, I will have taken more than 8,000 images on the nearby streets of the Upper West Side -- plus another several thousand in Rome, Coney Island, and the various spots in NYC where I traditionally take photos. So I don't expect to be emotionally attached to any of the "every-block" photos, and hope that I'll be able to make an objective selection of the ones worth looking at.
As for the criteria that I've used to select the small subset of every-block photos that get uploaded to Flickr: there are three. First, I'll upload any photo that I think is "great," and where I hope the reaction of my Flickr-friends will be, "I have no idea when or where that photo was taken, but it's really a terrific picture!"
A second criterion has to do with place, and the third involves time. I'm hoping that I'll take some photos that clearly say, "This is New York!" to anyone who looks at it. Obviously, certain landscape icons like the Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty would satisfy that criterion; but I'm hoping that I'll find other, more unexpected examples. I hope that I'll be able to take some shots that will make a "local" viewer say, "Well, even if that's not recognizable to someone from another part of the country, or another part of the world, I know that that's New York!" And there might be some photos where a "non-local" viewer might say, "I had no idea that there was anyplace in New York City that was so interesting/beautiful/ugly/spectacular."
As for the sense of time: I remember wandering around my neighborhood in 2005, photographing various shops, stores, restaurants, and business establishments -- and then casually looking at the photos about five years later, and being stunned by how much had changed. Little by little, store by store, day by day, things change … and when you've been around as long as I have, it's even more amazing to go back and look at the photos you took thirty or forty years ago, and ask yourself, "Was it really like that back then? Seriously, did people really wear bell-bottom jeans?"
So, with the expectation that I'll be looking at these every-block photos five or ten years from now (and maybe you will be, too), I'm going to be doing my best to capture scenes that convey the sense that they were taken in the year 2013 … or at least sometime in the decade of the 2010's (I have no idea what we're calling this decade yet). Or maybe they'll just say to us, "This is what it was like a dozen years after 9-11".
Movie posters are a trivial example of such a time-specific image; I've already taken a bunch, and I don't know if I'll ultimately decide that they're worth uploading. Women's fashion/styles are another obvious example of a time-specific phenomenon; and even though I'm definitely not a fashion expert, I suspected that I'll be able to look at some images ten years from now and mutter to myself, "Did we really wear shirts like that? Did women really wear those weird skirts that are short in the front, and long in the back? Did everyone in New York have a tattoo?"
Another example: I'm fascinated by the interactions that people have with their cellphones out on the street. It seems that everyone has one, which certainly wasn't true a decade ago; and it seems that everyone walks down the street with their eyes and their entire conscious attention riveted on this little box-like gadget, utterly oblivious about anything else that might be going on (among other things, that makes it very easy for me to photograph them without their even noticing, particularly if they've also got earphones so they can listen to music or carry on a phone conversation). But I can't help wondering whether this kind of social behavior will seem bizarre a decade from now … especially if our cellphones have become so miniaturized that they're incorporated into the glasses we wear, or implanted directly into our eyeballs.
Oh, one last thing: I've created a customized Google Map to show the precise details of each day's photo-walk. I'll be updating it each day, and the most recent part of my every-block journey will be marked in red, to differentiate it from all of the older segments of the journey, which will be shown in blue. You can see the map, and peek at it each day to see where I've been, by clicking on this link

On Monday, October 24th, our Hereios just might be caught in a Random Acts of Kindness (R.A.O.K.).
We became aware of the cause of Amy, who is making a medical appeal. I thought I would offer two acts of kindness today – the first being to mention Amy and her video, and the second to return a kindness extended to me a few weeks ago.
When I was a little girl the people in the United States were “on the move”. It was just after WWII – yes, I’m a Baby Boomer – and people were trying to get their lives back in order and re-start. It was a custom when someone moved into the neighborhood to arrive on their doorstep with food, in order to help while the family was so busy unpacking. Then, a bit later, a second visit was in order, with some kind of a little “housewarming” gift. These visits were helpful to the newcomers in the obvious ways, but it also gave them an introduction to someone willing to help with questions about the neighborhood, etc. I think it provided the givers an opportunity to also give the newcomers the onceover. :-)
I have moved 16 times as an adult – and that doesn’t count college. When I moved to the City of Vallejo this summer it was the first time anyone paid a welcoming call. With a pumpkin pie. And then that neighbor followed up with a little housewarming gift of an ivy cutting. I was so touched by that. I bought this little gift in return – and I had to take a 3-second snapshot because I saw her out in the yard. She hasn’t been well and I wanted to get it down to her right away so as not to bother her later.
So that’s the story of this poor shot of a box of cookies.
And, here is the link to Amy’s video. Amy is trying to raise awareness of how kidney donations can be made, and hoping that her wishes might come true:

I am inspired by this quote and wanted to share it with you in the hope you, too, would be inspired. .
It was 100 degrees here yesterday and I ran out quickly to take some shots for my 366 project before my sister picked me up last night. I am not crazy about any of them, but this will have to do. :)
It was a really nice day yesterday. I took another half day off work, picked up my son and met my sisters and the kids for lunch, then back to my sister's for a while to hang out. Then we had "girls' night" at my other sister's house. It was my mom, my aunt, my sisters, sisters-in-law, cousins and a few nieces and nephews hanging around. Her neighborhood lost power for several hours, but we made do with daylight coming in and then lit a bunch of candles. Fortunately, it didn't get too warm in the house before the power went back on. Great food, great wine and even better company. Wonderful night!
I'm off work today and I'm having everyone over this afternoon to hang out and for dinner. Then we're going to do cosmic bowling later tonight. I better get moving and head out to the store!!
Have a great day and weekend!!

was taking longer than usual at the framers with bH, discussing the works in her next show. and the super super nice man next in line with his wife bought us all tonic drinks! omg!
over the years, have found it's not uncommon for friends to give you little snacky poohs, etc, inc these health tonics. the most common is when they come to visit you or arrange to meet you on the corner, they have a cold/hot mini can of coffee. sweet!

I needed a smidgen of this yarn in order to finish a washcloth/dishcloth and made an open appeal to appropriate groups on Ravelry, and also here on Flickr. I got several responses, fortunately, and offers from those who had some extra yarn in this colorway.
It was so kind of mcclendon1 to send this remnant to me as a favor. It is just a smidgen, but may actually be enough to finish my washcloth/dishcloth to be gifted to Huguette (Seaglass addict).
I’ve gotten several RAKs from sweet Raverlry members and I intend to reciprocate by sending a little surprise to them in the near future. mcclendon1 will definitely be on my list!
As well as some wonderful Flickr friends! I'm a little slow responding to those here who've gifted me so generously, but I'm in the process of getting ready to make up for that shortly. I can't wait! Everyone's going to have squeaky-clean faces, bodies, and/or dishes and kitchen counters. ;o)
“For every fear that shakes your peace,
For every night you feel alone,
For every moment you lose a little hope,
There is an angel who whispers,
I am here.”
Well, it finally happened... after nine years of work, I finally experienced what everyone else has...
I finally got yelled at by a customer. Wow... she was a doozy. I was on my way back from the office when
she called me... or shall I say DEMANDED my attention in the Misses department. And she proceeded to
scream at me because she couldn’t reach the two tops that she wanted. (BTW... do you know how tall I am?
She was probably taller than me). I tried to defuse her, but she just got louder. I handed her the tops and
ran away and as I was leaving, she was mumbling about “Now where did that other woman go?” in the nastiest
tone of voice that you can imagine. “That other woman” was my manager and when she freed herself from Ms.
Congeniality, she came over, put her arm around me and said, “Torrie, you’re creative, do you think you can take
care of this? I just had a woman that yelled at me because we need benches with backs on them, because she
can’t stand that long and needs to sit and rest while she’s shopping... so could you get right on that and maybe add
some backs to the benches in the shoe department.” Yeah, I’ll get right on that... as long as I can move the benches into
the misses department because I don’t want that woman sitting in MY department! Nastiest woman I have ever met! Wow!!
And then I had to go back into my department and clean up a taco on the floor in front of the stockroom door.
A taco. Who eats tacos while shopping? ( I could also ask, who serves their family a chicken dinner in the shoe department?, because
THAT used to happen every Sunday night for awhile.) And then, insert fist pump here.... I said... YES!! I DID, I MADE THE RIGHT DECISION!! (in changing jobs)
I did feel bad about getting yelled at, and about people that keep telling me that it won’t be any fun without me, (because no one else
will lay in the memory foam bed... and encourage everyone else to do the same... and take pictures... and it doesn’t matter to me that they have installed cameras that are piped into corporate... man, it’s comfy!!) and I feel bad about a whole chain of events that has transpired because of me
giving up my full time position, and I feel bad because staying on there part time through the holiday season is not going to be a picnic for me, either, but I have to do it. So, I finally left work, feeling sad because someone called after me as I was leaving... “Tor, we’re really going to miss you.” I had a couple of
annoying errands to do before I went home that were also upsetting. And by the time I was finally in my car heading home, I was in tears. (So I decided to buy a pumpkin, thinking that carving a pumpkin will make me feel better. I haven’t started it yet.)
I was sitting here editing some of the baseball photos from the alumni game that Warner’s son is waiting for, and I got a text message from a co-worker telling me to call her
husband. I did, listened, and thanked him for putting his neck on the line for something he’s doing and he said.... “No, Torrie. I am putting my neck on the line for you. It’s for you. I am doing it for YOU.”
And I thought.... so what if some stupid woman yelled at me, and lots of bad things are happening.... somewhere along the line, in the midst of all the bad decisions I have made, and all of the
things that I have done and said that were wrong... I must have done something right. Somewhere along the line, I didn’t totally screw up, because I have friends that treat me like family, and their families
treat me like family. So, I decided that it’s OK that people that don’t matter think it’s OK to treat me like crap, because every once in awhile, and usually when I need it the most, I find out that someone out there has my
back, that there are still really good people left out there. Wow. To someone that will never see this, Thank you. ♥
Thank God. Angels. Real. life. angels.
