A short while ago when 'my' trusty Javelin was being prepared for its latest MoT, it was necessary to borrow a bus off another local operator. His fleet contains three or four coaches, a couple of reasonably high value, and this Optare Tempo service bus. He'd acquired it to perform rail replacement as it ticked the PSVAR requirements in the way that half (or more) of his small, more luxurious fleet didn't.
I'd borrowed a coach for odd days whilst we awaited a test date for the Javelin but was keen to try this bus (I've always preferred buses and DPs for school contract work). Unfortunately I was a tad underwhelmed, some details of which I can't discuss here. One of the more amusing aspects (other than for a blind which wouldn't move off 'Rail Replacement) was the on-board computer which apparently measured my competence as a driver. It gave me a numerical score as I made my way around my usual tortuous circuit (about which the Javelin doesn't complain), with the computer marking me down severely for having the audacity to climb the three quarters of a mile of 1:8 to 1:6 incline I need to reach my third pick-up. Even coming downhill with my foot off the gas, around twisting bends and rapily changing cambers, down went my score further. I'm convinced that back in its old life, when the depot computer produced its findings, I'd have been summoned to the office! My interest in the bus has peaked I'm afraid.
The Fiat 1200 TV was the successor of the 1955-57 1100 TV Spider with a very identical body. Some sources say that Pininfarina was the designer. Others say it was styled by Fabio Luigi Rapi. I believe this is correct. Pininfarina was responsible for the Fiat 1220 Cabriolet which had a more flattened windshield. It replaced this 1200 TV.
For the domestic market this Fiat 1200 cabriolet was called 'Trasformabile'. For foreign countries 'Spider' was used. TV stands for 'Turismo Veloce'.
Note the characteristic panoramic windshield.

Jacob Jordaens (Antwerp, May 19, 1593 - Antwerp, October 18, 1678) - The Rape of Europa (1615-1616) oil on canvas 172.6 x 236.2 cm - Gemäldegalerie, Berlin
Jacob Jordaens (1593-1678) was undoubtedly the third most important Antwerp history painter after Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640) and Anthonis van Dyck (1599-1641). The painting of the "Abduction of Europe" is one of his earliest major works.
The myth of the abduction of Europa by Jupiter was handed down by Ovid in the second book of his Metamorphoses.
The king of the gods, in love with Europa, took the form of a bull and mingled with the herd of King Agenor of Phoenicia. Full of admiration for her beauty and friendliness, Europa mounted the snow-white back of the bull and crowned his head with a crown of flowers. At that point Jupiter abducted her and swam with her to the island of Crete, where she assumed her true form again.

This temporary exhibition was set up to honour the old Ghislain Mahy, by bringing back some iconic items from his collection to the place where it all began: the Ghent Wintercircus.
Unfortunately there were only 10 vehicles on display.
Ghislain Mahy (1907-1999) was a Fiat car dealer and classic car enthusiast who rented this old Wintercircus building for over forty years. Starting in the early 1950s he built up a collection of old and classical cars from more than 950 items. He bought them mainly in France. And many of them were just saved from the hands of car scrapers.
In 1995 Mahy had to leave this special place. His collection was partly sold, the rest was divided over two museums. Restored top cars went to classic car museum Autoworld, Brussels (about 230 items). But the majority, most unrestored cars, found a new home in a new founded car museum in the south of Belgium called Mahymobiles, Leuze-en-Hainaut.

In the postwar years, Fiat was working on an eight-cylinder engine which was internally known as Tipo 106. Dante Giacosa originally designed the engine for a luxury sedan, but then that project stopped. Rudolf Hruska, at the time working at S.I.A.T.A., was given the task to design a car around the V8 engine. Development took place in absolute secrecy. To not stress the experimental department of Fiat, S.I.A.T.A took up the production of the chassis. Styled by chief designer Fabio Luigi Rapi, the Fiat 8V or OttoVù was presented to the Italian press in February 1952 and first exhibited in the following March at the Geneva Motor Show.
The Fiat 8V prototype used an art deco grill that extended into the hood. A second series was made featuring four headlights with some of the later cars have a full-width windscreen. A high-performance coupé destined to compete in the GT class, the 2-litre 8V model, was a departure from the usual Fiat production. It was well accepted by Italian private drivers and tuners and was the car to beat in the 2-litre class, also thanks to the unique versions built by Zagato or Siata. The Fiat V8 had a 70-degree V configuration of up to a 1996 cc of volume, at 5600 rpm the engine produced 105 hp (78 kW) in standard form with two two-barrel Weber 36 DCS carburettors giving a top speed of 190 km/h (118 mph). Some engines were fitted with substantial four-throat Weber 36 IF4/C carburettors offering 120 bhp, but the intake manifold was very rare. The Fiat 8V is the only eight-cylinder built by Fiat. The engine was connected to a four-speed gearbox. The shapes of the car have seen several changes over time: the prototype had an art deco grille that extended into the bonnet. A second series was made with four headlights; finally, some of the latest cars had a large windshield without divisions. Only 114 of this high-performance coupé were produced, 63 of which with a “Fiat Carrozzerie Speciali” body, 34 first-series and 29 second-series. It was made available in different body styles, offered by the factory and by various coachbuilders like Zagato, Pinin Farina, Ghia and Vignale. The production ceased in 1954.

Hands down one of the most unique trains in the Kansai region, if not all of Japan, is Nankai Electric Railway's "Rapi:t" Airport Limited Express.
This train connects Kansai International Airport with Namba, right in the heart of famous Dotonbori. Built in 1994, the design was stylized to a "Retro Futuristic" motif, kind of like what you'd see from, say, The Jetsons cartoon. The design keeps with the aircraft theme with its blue color, oval windows, and spacious interior. Gotta say, its a gorgeous looking train.

It is very unfortunate that this Autobianchi Bianchina from 1964 is damaged. This car is almost always on the street in this neighborhood, which is not good for the well-being of this classic car.
Autobianchi Bianchina
The Autobianchi Bianchina is a minicar produced by the Italian automaker Autobianchi, based on the Fiat 500. It was available in various configurations: Berlina (saloon), Cabriolet (roadster), Trasformabile (convertible), Panoramica (station wagon), and Furgoncino (van). The car was presented to the public on 16 September 1957 at the Museum of Science and Technology in Milan.
Initially, the car was equipped with the smallest Fiat engine, air-cooled 479 cc producing 15 PS (11 kW). In 1959, the engine power was increased to 17 PS (13 kW) and in 1960, the cabriolet version was launched.
In the same year, the Trasformabile, whose engine cylinder capacity was increased to 499 cc (18 hp), was made available in a Special version with bicolour paint and an engine enhanced to 21 PS (15 kW). This body style featured fixed B-pillar and partial roof, as the rest of the opening was covered with foldable fabric hood, whilst the Cabriolet version had no B-pillar. The Trasformabile was the only versions to feature suicide doors and in 1962, it was replaced by a four-seat saloon. The engine and chassis were the same in both.
In 1965, a minor facelift was made. In France, the models were sold under different names: the Berlina became the Lutèce, the Familiare the Texane, and the Trasformabile was marketed as the Eden Roc.

The Ariane was presented in April 1957.
In fact it was a kind of hybride: it had the Flash engine of the Aronde 1300 and the body of the Vedette Trianon, the most simple version of the Vedette-Series.
The basic design for the Vedette-Series came from Ford, Detroit, but the finishing off was done by Fabio Luigi Rapi (It, 1902-?). The Vedette had all luxury of those days incorporated.
Simultaneously there was also offered a Ariane 8 with the famous V8 Vedette engine.
The Ariane was replaced in 1963 by the new 1300/1500.
This car was for sale in Saclas, France. I found her on the digital trade site 'Leboncoin'. Asking price: € 4900, which sounds reasonable for this beauty.

The Bianchina range was designed by Luigi Rapl (born in 1902) and technically based on the Fiat 500. The Berlina was first presented in Sept. 1957.
Autobianchi was a joint-venture between Bianchi, Pirelli and Fiat and was erected in 1955. In 1969 Fiat took over all the company shares and became full owner. After termination of the Y10 production in 1995 the company merged with Lancia and the brand name Autobianchi disappeared.
