The Nankai 50000 series (南海50000系) is a limited express EMU operated by the Nankai Electric Railway. These 6-car trains were introduced in 1994 on the new rapi:t limited express service on the Nankai Airport line serving the Kansai International Airport which opened on 4 September 1994.
The external styling of the train was the work of Hiroyuki Wakabayashi, an architect who was also responsible for designing Uji Station on the Keihan Electric Railway Uji Line. The design theme was "Outdated Future". The end cars feature streamlined cabs with no gangway connections. The cars are painted an all-over metallic deep blue colour. The side windows are elliptical in shape, giving an aircraft-like appearance.

Displacing just under two liters, the Tipo 104 motor V8 featured an unusual 70° architecture, as well as advanced racing components such as a finned aluminum sump, forged crankshaft, polished intakes and ports, and tubular 4x1 stainless steel exhaust manifolds. As Giacosa later noted of the V-8 in his autobiography, "the idea of mounting it on a sports car for a small production run was attractive and aroused the keenest interest among the design engineers."
And so was born the Fiat 8V, which featured the only overhead-valve V-8 that Fiat ever built during its long and storied history. Known in Italy as the Otto Vu, the new model was positioned as a luxury grand touring sports car.To maintain the necessary quality-control for such a high-end product, the fabrication of the chassis was farmed out to Giorgio Ambrosini's Siata, the tuning specialists that had long served as Fiat's in-house competition and customization department. This choice was probably further facilitated by Ghia owner Mario Felice Boano's 1950 hiring of Luigi Segre, a former Siata sales manager, as Ghia's sales director.
The Otto Vu made its public debut at the Geneva Salon in March 1952, and immediately impressed all who saw it with Fiat's ability to produce such a jewel-like automobile. Over the following two years, about two hundred tipo 104 motors were produced (though more than fifty of these were eventually installed in the upcoming Siata roadster).
The Otto Vu automobile was even more rare, with approximately 114 examples built through 1954. While at least forty of these cars were bodied with the factory coachwork by Rapi, the other chassis were clothed by coachbuilders such as Balbo, Pinin Farina, Vignale and Zagato.
The 8V Rapi Corsa presented here was delivered new in Milan where it was owned and raced by Scuderia Ambrosiana. The car was fitted with lightweight body and sliding windows, it was raced in the 1953 Mille Miglia finishing 18th overall. Sold to Vincenzo Aurricchio in 1954 and it participated again in the Mille Miglia that same year where it didn’t finish.

Following the Fiat 8V coupé limited edition, the auto maker introduced a prototype at the 1954 Turin car show, with its body built out of fibreglass (it only weighed 48.5 kg), an innovative material at the time. In a way, this marked the end of the brief career of the only sports car with eight cylinder engine ever made by Fiat. In total, 114 Fiat 8V cars were built.

The Fiat 8V (or 'Otto Vu') is a V8-engined sports car produced by the Italian car manufacturer Fiat from 1952 to 1954. The car was introduced at the 1952 Geneva Motor Show. The Fiat 8V got its name because at the time of its making, Fiat believed Ford had a copyright on 'V8'. With 114 made, the 8V wasn't a commercial success, but did well in racing. Apart from the differential the car did not share any parts with the other Fiats (but many parts were made by Siata and they used them for their cars). The 8V was developed by Dante Giacosa and the stylist Luigi Rapi. The engine was a V8 originally designed for a luxury sedan, but that project was stopped.
The Fiat V8 had a 70 degree V configuration, displaced 1,996 cc and was fitted with two twin-choke Weber 36 DCF 3 carburettors. In its first iteration (type 104.000) the engine had a compression ratio of 8.5:1 and produced 105 PS (77 kW; 104 hp) at 5,600 rpm, giving the car a top speed of 190 km/h (118 mph). Improved type 104.003 had different camshaft timing for 115 PS (85 kW; 113 hp) at 6,000 rpm; finally type 104.006 with an 8.75:1 compression ratio, revised camshaft timing and fuel system put out 127 PS (93 kW; 125 hp) at 6,600 rpm. The engine was connected to a four speed gearbox. The car had independent suspension all round and drum brakes on all four wheels.
Top management were preoccupied with more run of the mill projects, however, and only 114 of the high-performance coupés had been produced by the time the cars were withdrawn from production in 1954. Nevertheless, they continued to win the Italian 2-litre GT championship every year until 1959.
Ghia designed and produced a limited run of cars named 'Supersonic', with special 'jet age' bodywork. Ghia had recently been sold by Boano to Luigi Segre, and a one-off Alfa Romeo 1900 had been built for a wealthy entrant in the 1953 Mille Miglia race. The car was displayed at the Turin show same year and the reaction inspired Segre to plan a limited production of cars based on the Otto Vu, aimed at the American market. Only eight were completed, after mechanical issues ended the project. Design of 'Supersonic' is credited to Giovanni Savonuzzi.
The Bianchina was developed in cooperation with Fiat and was based on the Fiat 500.
The Autobianchi company was found in 1955. Co-owners were Fiat, Bianchi and Pirelli. Production of cars started in 1957 with the Trasformabile.
This Quatroposti was presented in 1962 and produced till 1970.

ANATOMY OF A JEWEL
A diamond that emerged from a figurative coalmine, the Fiat 8V was a shocking anomaly for a mass-market manufacturer better known for pedestrian models like the diminutive Topolino or the 500. Upon its introduction in 1952, Road & Track magazine described the jewel-like 8V as “the biggest surprise of the year.” It was understandably a shock to the automotive world that, after decades of producing entry-level models, Fiat would suddenly introduce a boutique-production sports car featuring an advanced overhead-valve light alloy V-8 engine, Siata-fabricated chassis, and four-wheel independent suspension.
The Otto Vu, as it was known in Italian, went on to be successfully campaigned by racing privateers all over the world, notably finishing fifth in class at the 1952 Mille Miglia, third in class at the Giro della Toscana, and becoming the eventual 2.0-liter champion in the Italian Sports Car Championship. A majority of the competition 8V examples were bodied in lightweight coachwork by Zagato produced in two discreet series, an arrangement that was no doubt precipitated by Elio Zagato’s success in racing one of the earliest examples. The Zagato-bodied cars shared the general proportions of the factory coachwork, a sublime design penned by Fabio Lucio Rapi.
Two other coachbuilders were responsible for clothing double-digit batches of the 8V, as Vignale built at least 10 examples, and Ghia built 15 cars, ranging between chassis numbers 000035 and 000056. All but one of these cars wore the Giovanni Savonuzzi-designed Supersonic coachwork. The lone exception, the featured lot, was clothed in one-off aluminum coachwork attributed to Chrysler design boss Virgil Exner, though undoubtedly with significant input from company principal Felice Mario Boano, who was soon to exit Ghia to found his own eponymous design concern.
ONE OF ONE
According to Tony Adriaensens’ authoritative book Otto Vu, chassis number 000042 was dispatched for the Ghia plant as a rolling chassis in June 1953, occurring about halfway through the sequential and chronological output of chassis to the Turinese coachbuilder. It is not entirely clear what prompted the company to mount the chassis with a different design than the Supersonic, but it is easy to discern the coachwork’s relation to any number of cars that constituted the Italian-American design partnership, including Chrysler models such as the K-310 and d’Elegance concept cars, and the GS1; as well as roughly concurrent Ghia design projects for other manufacturers such as the Alfa Romeo 1900C Supergioiello and the Ghia Cadillac.
As attested by period photos from the Ghia archives of the Ford Motor Company, 000042’s coachwork was graced with characteristically thin protruding fenders that framed inset headlamps, and a wide elliptical mouth grille adorned with two crossbars and foglamps. A decorative beltline gave way to a fastback tail surrounded by delicate tailfins, not unlike Savonuzzi’s Supersonic. The interior also showed special consideration, with leather upholstered seats and a driver-focused instrument panel dominated by a large binnacle housing a symmetrically facing half-moon speedometer and tachometer.
According to a deep file of research by the collection manager of a former owner, bolstered by period advertisements from Road & Track; period auction catalogues; prior bills of sale and titles; former owner’s correspondence; and the research of John De Boer’s Italian Car Registry, the 8V was imported to the United States circa 1957 by a director or actor in Los Angeles, California. Advertised for sale in August 1957 by a Mrs. Weber of Downey, California, the car passed in 1958 to Charles Trammel of Culver City, who reportedly stored the car for the following 10 years.
The Fiat was next acquired in 1968 by Dr. Lynn Gill of Palos Verdes Estates, although a divorce settlement prompted him to offer the 8V in September 1973, and he eventually sold the car at auction in May 1976 to Rick Cole of Marina Del Rey, the budding auctioneer. By this time the car’s original engine, number 000067, had been replaced with a proper 8V engine stamped with BS099 (reflecting that it was part of the 8V engine allotment sold to Siata for use in 208 S production). The car’s nose was also reconfigured with a more standard period look that included bulbous fenders with integrated headlamps, and an eggcrate grille. The alloy coachwork had been painted from its original light shade to rosso, the seats were reupholstered in matching red leather, and the original disc wheel covers were removed to expose the attractive wire wheels that lay beneath.
During the ensuing decade, 000042 was sold to Tony Clarkson of Brewster, New York, before being acquired in April 1987 by 8V expert Tony Krivanek, who in turn sold the car to Larry Harvey and commenced a restoration that was part of the transaction. Before the work could be completed, Harvey decided to the sell the car, and buyer Paul Forbes of Redondo Beach, California, assumed the remainder of the refurbishment, for which the Italian car expert Tony Nicosia was retained. Steve Beckman was entrusted to conduct body corrections as needed and to refinish the coachwork. The quality of the restoration was recognized when Forbes presented the car at the 2002 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
Mr. Forbes later sold the Fiat and in 2005 it was purchased by David Kelley of Woodside, California, and he presented the car at the 2005 The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering before driving it in the 2006 California Mille. In 2007, Kelley sold the Otto Vu to a collector based in Belgium, who exhibited the car a year later at the ultra-exclusive Villa d’Este Concorso d’Eleganza where it garnered a class award, and the Paleis Het Loo concours d’elegance before offering it at RM Auctions’ London sale in September 2009.
The 8V was purchased there by one of the most respected collectors in the United States, who presented the coupe at the 2010 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, eventually selling it at RM Sotheby’s Arizona sale in January 2014 to the current owner. Under the consignor’s ownership, the coupe was notably accepted for participation in the Colorado Grand, generally recognized as the most exclusive touring event in the United States.
In addition to being one of 114 total 8V examples built, and one of just 15 completed by Ghia, this unique 8V carries the unusual distinction of wearing one-off Ghia coachwork that distinguishes it from every other example. Characterized by the unmistakable design cues of Virgil Exner and Felice Mario Boano, and the veteran of an impeccable concours record, this truly unique Ghia is poised for further concours exhibition or driving enjoyment, being eligible for ultra-exclusive tours like the Mille Miglia Storica and the Colorado Grand. It would make a singular addition to any collection, particularly suitable for enthusiasts of the groundbreaking Italian-American concept cars of the 1950s.

Tampak dalam dilihat dari samping: kompak dan rapi, serta dibangun dengan komponen-komponen pilihan: metal film 1% resistor, transistor pilihan, anti-noise modul untuk modul pre-amp mic, dll.
Menyukai Wayang Sejak Usia 15 Tahun, Prihatin Peminat Wayang Sepi
e-wonosobo - Kuo Ping Siung akrab disapa Handoko merupakan warga keturunan Tionghoa yang selama ini berperan dalam melestarikan wayang kulit. Peran ini memang tidak banyak dikenal oleh masyarakat Wonosobo. Namun, dimata para dalang Handoko sangat dikenal, karena dari tangannya telah banyak melahirkan wayang kulit.
Rumah bercat biru di tepi Jalan Jogonegoro, tepatnya Desa Singkir Wonosobo terlihat lenggang. Di halaman depan bederet bunga sansivera serta deretan bunga lain tertata rapi. Memasuki ruang tamu, tampak deretan lukisan lama berderet. Disebelah ruang tersebut, tampak pria berkulit putih tengah sibuk. Tangan kanannya memegang palu sedangkan tangan kirinya membawa pahat. Sesekali pria itu memukulkan palu pada pahat diatas skestsa wayang yang telah dibuatnya.
“ Silahkan duduk, saya sedang menyelesaikan wayang gatot kaca,” ungkap pria itu yang belakangan diketahui bernama Kuo Ping Siung alias Handoko.
Pria yang intim disapa Handoko ini mengaku tengah menyelesaikan tiga wayang yakni Gatot Kaca, Krisna dan Buta. Ketiga wayang ini berbeda dengan wayang kulit produksi Jogjakarta maupun Solo. Karena wayang yang dibuat untuk gakgrak wayang kedu, yang mempunyai ciri yang beda.
“ Bentuk wayang kedu beda dengan wayang solo dan Jogjakarta. Saya menguasai semua, namun mengkhususkan untuk gakrak kedu,”aku pria berusia 43 tahun ini.
Pria yang memilih masih melajang ini berkisah, mengenal wayang sejak dia masih berusia 15 tahun. Saat itu, dia rajin mendengarkan wayang lewat radio maupun melihat pertunjukan langsung di desa –desa saat ada merdi desa. Hobby menonton ini kemudian berlanjut ingin mencoba membuat wayang.
“ Dulu kalau ada pertunjukan pasti saya nonton,bahkan sampai sekarang,”katanya.
Diakui Handoko, dia menyukai dunia wayang jawa lantaran mempunyai lakon dan kisah yang menarik. Kendati dalam budaya Tionghoa ada kesenian wayang potehi, dia tidak begitu suka dan hanya sedikit tahu. Namun, untuk wayang jawa dia menguasai beberapa lakon. Bahkan mempunyai tokoh idola meliputi Hanoman, Dewi Sinto, Kokrosono serta Bimo. Menurutnya masing-masing tokoh ini menginspirasi dalam kehidupan manusia.
“ Hanoman misalnya, saya sukai karena meski berujut kera dia satria dan mempunyai sifat kemanisiaan yang tinggi,”katanya.
Berbekal mengidolakan empat tokoh ini, sekitar usia 17 tahun, Handoko mulai mencoba membuat wayang menggunakan kertas karton. Hasil karyanya tersebut kemudian ditunjukan kepada dalang di Wonosobo dan dinilai penggarapanya rapi. Sejak saat itu, Handoko memilih belajar secara serius kepada para dalang di Wonosobo. selain mengasah keterampilan dalam memahat, juga mengetahui filosofi wayang. Menurutnya tiap pahatan wayang mempunyai arti yang melekat pada sosok tokoh wayang tersebut.
“ Misalnya untuk Gatot kaca ini, pada pahatan kalung jumlahnya pasti ganjil, ilmu tersebut saya dapatkan dari para dalang,”katanya.
Selang waktu berjalan, Handoko terus mengasah kemampuanya, orang yang dijadikan guru tidak hanya satu. Dia menyebutkan para dalang yang selama ini mengajarinya membuat wayang meliputi Ki Kuat, ki Cokro, ki Wiking, ki Tukino, dan Ki Parman. Dari para dalang inilah kemampuan membuat wayangnya semakin lihai. Bahkan pada dalang kerap memesan wayang kepadanya.
“ Semua dalang itu sekarang sudah meninggal. Mereka merupakan guru yang telah mengajarkan saya tahu seluk beluk wayang,”katanya.
Untuk mengerjakan wayang, Handoko menggunakan dua bahan baku yakni kulit dan kertas karton. Pengerjaanya untuk wayang karton satu wayang bisa selesai dalam satu pekan, sedangkan wayang menggunakan kulit satu tokoh membutuhan waktu mencapai dua pekan. Harga jualnya tentu berbeda, untuk bahan karton kisaran Rp 100 sampai 125 ribu. Sedangkan berbahan kulit mencapai Rp 500 ribu tergantung ukuran.
“Dulu hampir semua dalang memesang di sini, untuk saat ini kebanyakan dari dalang cilik menggunakan bahan karton,”katanya.
Selain mendapat pesanan para dalang, Handoko menyebutkan pesanan juga sering datang dari para penggemar wayang. Bahkan tidak hanya asal Wonosobo. Sejumlah pemesan datang juga dari luar daerah. Namun, sejak lima tahun terakhir pemesanan menurun. Menurutnya hal ini karena penggemar dan pelestari wayang terus merosot. Untuk tetap bertahan dalam seni pahat, Handoko sekarang juag membuat kaligrafi dengan paduan ukiran wayang.
“ Kaligrafinya ternyata laku. Saya buat dengan tetap menggunakan khot (gaya tulisan) arab kemudian kita padukan dengan seni ukir wayang,”katanya.
Merosotnya minat masyarakat mencintai wayang kulit, Handoko mengaku prihatin. Sebab wayang kulit merupakan kesenian warisan adiluhung jawa. Namun belakangan anak muda seolah gengsi mengenal wayang. Untuk itu, pihaknya membuka diri dan meluangkan waktu saat ada generasi muda utamanya pelajar ingin belajar tentang seni pewayangan.
“Saya ikut prihatin, wayang merupakan warisan budaya luhur jawa. Kalau tidak generasi muda yang meneruskan, bisa-bisa punah,”pungkasnya. (rase)
