non-descript building with one circular-ish room inside. there are 14 gorgeous huge rothko panels hanging around using mostly purple shades. the room is illuminated by a skylight and diffuser so that the direct sunlight doesn't damage the paintings. as the light changes throughout the day, the shade of purple on the pieces change with it. this was a great find and i wish i could have taken photos. the room is a peaceful setting for prayer, but is not affiliated to any one religion, thus open to all. the large canvases give a sense of calm and peace the longer you stay there, which i would think was the point of it all :)

Violet, blanc et rouge suit le format caractéristique de l’œuvre de maturité de Mark Rothko, dans lequel des rectangles de couleurs empilés semblent flotter à l’intérieur des limites de la toile. En colorant directement la toile avec de nombreuses fines couches de pigment et en accordant une attention particulière aux bords où les champs interagissent, il a obtenu l'effet de la lumière rayonnant de l'image elle-même. Cette technique convenait aux objectifs métaphysiques de Rothko : offrir la peinture comme une porte d’entrée vers des royaumes purement spirituels, la rendant aussi immatérielle et évocatrice que la musique, et communiquer directement les formes les plus essentielles et les plus brutes de l’émotion humaine (cf. Art Institute).
