Just out of Deramus Yard, CP 2816 brings the Final Spike Steam Tour into downtown Shreveport, passing a proper KCS-looking local at Harriet Street Yard.
Thus began one of the most fun days I've had in this hobby, as I and several others gave chase on the day-long 300+ mile run back to the Houston area. The train departed Shreveport on schedule at 0700, but thanks to multiple delays involving PTC and navigating the UP in Texas, they didn't make it to Kendleton until after dark!
The next vertical in my planned series of vertical uploads is from Lake Oberon last year. This was a memorable evening not only for the environment but for how queasy I was feeling. I have since made plans to alter my eating habits while on the track to minimise freezed dried meals! Moonrise, milkyway rise and sunrise all coincided within 2 hours on this magical morning.

For a few short minutes, the auroras transformed from a small low arch along the horizon to rapidly moving pillars and curtains of intense brightness and colour. It's a spectacular sight, no matter how many times you witness it.

Bonus of early morning birding, i love drinking coffee and watching sun rise but this time i couldn't stop capturing this wonderful moments, intentionally under exposed to see the dramatic Sun behind clouds.
Big thanks to Eric Kim for the interview over at his ever popular international street photography blog. Great guy.
Bangkok had a severe problem with smog at the start of the year; a "positive" side effect is the pollution diffuses the sun and gives such nice colors.
The sun rises over a fog filled marsh Monday morning.
The best thing about early spring and possible late fall is fog. As the water warms and the air temperature drops overnight, you get treated to this spectacular fog hanging over the marshy wet areas. Its one of my favorite things to photograph.

“Every time you try and fail,
Every time your hope gets stuck in the deeps,
And you wonder just how you'd get through the sail-
Don't forget that underneath your pain,
Is an anchor of great strength and fortitude
Keep digging until you find it...
And when you do,
RISE!”

I'm feeling very much like summer is already over... and I'm not sure if that is a good...or a bad thing... every year I say I am going to go tubing down the Delaware.... it hasn't happened yet.... so maybe.... it's a bad thing.

Like the fiery Phoenix rising from the embers of the ash, a kestrel, it's gossamer wings ignited by the morning sun, rises beautifully...triumphantly...into the open sky. A reminder for all...never to be daunted by the circumstances of a fleeting moment.

This is the Devils Tower in the Black Hills. Yes, no apostrophe “s.” Aside from the poor grammar of its name, it was never actually supposed to be its name. Some fat, old, white military dude in 1875 must have had his wooden AirPods in, because the dude misinterpreted the name the Native Americans had given it. He somehow had the translation all screwed up from what it was actually called (Bear’s House/Lodge/Tipi/etc depending on the tribe) and thought it was “Bad God’s Tower.” So he was like ok sweet, let’s call this thing Devils Tower… and forgot the apostrophe “s” because his grammar was as piss-poor as mine is.
I just posted all of my 2022 storm-chase photos on my website. Consider check them out if you like severe storms… hopefully you’ll like at least two of them.
Anyway, thanks for scrolling far enough to see my dumb little picture. If you are interested in seeing how I create my dumb little pictures you can head to www.ryandyar.com or check out the link in my profile.
When, when the fire's at my feet again
And the vultures all start circling
They're whispering, ”You're out of time.”
But still, I rise
This is no mistake, no accident
When you think the final nail is in; think again
Don't be surprised, I will still rise...
