One of my ripped jeans

I was sorry to hear my old art school friend Simon Goldenberg died recently . He went on to be a musician and composer with many awards, an Ivor Novello award and many soundtracks in the movies. Here is Simon in 1974 (with Dave Earl) in the white t shirt playing chopsticks. He taught me a simple riff on the guitar which whenever my fingers find those same notes I see him again, right there teaching it to me. He was also an extraordinary painter.

RIP Simon.

Floki waits for me to give him one of his chew toys each morning, then he proceeds to rip & tear it. The vet has commented on his teeth being in great shape, so it’s a healthy routine for him!

Thanks to the homie's piece....

Let me be another to say, I always looked foward to going on flickr and checking The Joy of the Mundane's flickr photostream. When I found out about what happened, I was poisoned with a sour stomach and a shock which stayed with me the entire night. Rest in peace to one dedicated mother fucker. I still cannot believe this happened, and I can't believe how strongly it hurts just from someone I knew threw the interweb.

This is the last candid picture I took of JJ before I had to put him to sleep last week. He's standing inside the front doorway and I shot him right thru the storm door from outside..

He wasn't showing any major signs of illness except panting and a slight distended belly. Turns out he was very sick on the inside. The vet said it was time... once again... I was completely unprepared. This is the second dog I've lost in 18 months. For now, it's just me and Tank, my english bulldog. I may have to get another dog, because Tank is more depressed than I am. He doesn't understand where JJ went and keeps looking for him throughout the house, breaking my heart.

Perhaps best outlining my growth as a photographer, Rip Curl, taken on the Leeward Coast of Oahu, Hawaii, is the last image taken in this series of 35. Using everything I’ve learned up to this point, this image, while seemingly simple in colour and content, is relatively complex in its composition.

Here, in early April, I wanted to capture a single wave, but not just any wave. My hope was that the resulting image would look somewhat like a painting. My objective here was to quickly capture a single wave in perfect focus, while simultaneously blurring its surroundings.

First, I visualized what I wanted the image to look like. Then I sourced the location. And, finally to capture something clear and crisp, I purchased new gear which included a lens that had a much longer focal length so I could get as close to the wave as possible while standing back on the shore.

The colours of the ocean in Hawaii are outstanding. Panning the ocean before me this day, I could see the colours of the water from a very vibrant aqua colour to royal blue. Important to me in this photograph was my ability to incorporate a wide range of colours helping to showcase the tropical nature of the water.

For most images, it’s crucial my camera (most often sitting on a tripod) lacks any vibration. Movement of any kind easily ruins most photographs. But, capturing the perfect detail of a moving wave works a little differently. With my camera on my tripod, I horizontally panned the camera, working to match the speed of the wave while keeping the cresting wave in perfect focus. With consistent focus on the wave, the balance of the image was left blurred, appearing like horizontal painted lines. If I’m honest, this technique stretched the boundaries of my comfort zone.

In 2018, Rip Curl, was awarded with 2018 Bronze Award at Epson International Pano Awards. Subsequently, it also received a 2018 MPI (Master Photographers International) Award of Distinction. Making it the very first image in my collection to achieve two seperate international awards.

Originally constructed as an attempt to fill a highway gap, the pile of old crushed cars have been wired together to help prevent erosion on the sandy hill during storms. The cars are known as the Catstair Rip Rap or Detroit Rip Rap, constructed in the 1960s.

I believe this was the last day I was with him before he died. RIP

I loathe the killing of civilians (or any life in fact) in any arena, whether it be Gaza, Syria, Sudan etc.

These guys often pushed the barriers in all fields and religions, but did that mean that they should have been murdered. I don't think so.

RIP to the 12 that died today, and to all those civilians who have lost their lives in any of the world's horrible conflicts.

Thanks for all the views. Please check out my other photos and albums.

I'm reposting this because Riley's godmother passed away and this is the last photo of the both of them together. This was taken during my last 365, and was my pic of the day. Just when I was getting frustrated with doing this year, this photo reminds me of the power and memories that doing a 365 creates. She pass away on Sunday after a very aggressive form of MS.

Read the caption from when I originally posted it:

Riley's Godmother, a really good friend of my wife, always makes a point of staying involve and in touch with Riley. She hasn't missed one birthday party, even when they are attended by young screaming girls, and often comes to see Riley play soccer in the summer. I really like the bond they have and the effort she has made to stay in touch.

And we won, 2-0 and Riley had one of the goals.
