Willie was laid to rest today. He wanted to live to be with us, but his body just wouldn't cooperate. He was as much a member of the family as any of us. As smart a dog as I've ever seen. The house feels empty without him. Rest in peace pooch. You will be missed
I painted this piece September 6, 2009 in memory of my tattoo artist Jose "Nasty Nes" Carrera. Jose was the founder/owner of www.ochoplacas.com tattoo shop in Miami, Florida and was the best tattoo artist I knew personally. He had a giant heart and a intense catalog of work. We're gonna miss you homie. One love.
I just got off the phone with my vet. She told me that Tuxedo boy was sedated and she had taken xrays of his front paw and she needed to know what to do.
I was told that he had the most severe polydactyl paws she's ever seen and that three "toes/ claws" on the front right were deformed and inbedded into his paw causing a chronic infection inside his foot. Polydactyl she says is caused by inbreeding and although most poly's do ok, he is the exception.
We discussed every option available at great length including amputation before we both came to the conclusion that euthanasia was the only choice that made sense.
My heart is broken.
This is why we mustn't let farm/ barn/ feral / stray cats interbreed......it affects their genetics in so many bad ways. And it goes w/out saying that ferals/strays should be neutered/ spayed. I wish I would have caught him sooner so that he didn't have to endure the pain he was in.
