Big Lots FINALLY reopened its Olean store after a nearly 6-month long remodel....

The store actually shrunk a bit a bit and honestly left me a little disappointed with their new product selection. The store cut back many departments back to move furniture from its prior alcove space into the store itself. Furniture has been expanded to cover at least 1/3 of the sales floor.

Big Lots stupidly cut toys back from 4-5 aisles before to 1 and 1/2 now. Electronics (taking an aisle) is now just the basic headphone and cellphone accessories. I don't recall seeing any movies or video games. Home Office (previously two aisles) supplies looked to have either been cut entirely or share space with the electronics in that one aisle by offering basic pens and pencils.

This location previously sold at least an aisle's worth of hosiery and at least a 1/2 aisle for diy and auto care products. Those departments looked to have been removed entirely.

Remodel, Week 24

In this view, you can see the (padlocked) entrance doors to the fresh island construction area, as well as a couple of the newest refrigerated cases, with the older frozen foods bulk units beyond that. You’ll note that only the bottom halves of the remodel walls here have been made of plywood; the tops are plastic sheeting.

I used to have an office here but wasn't good enough for the nicely remodeled version.

This doll came with a sewn-on dress whose skirt was too short and not full enough. My friend Gwen yesterday added an underskirt and remodeled the top skirt. Now she looks appropriately Victorian! (A Caco doll)

WEEK 23.2 – RRT, Greenville Kroger

An attempted look at the dairy sign, obstructed a little by how far out the shelving is (as you can see on the right). Looks like I also captured one of the many shoppers here on December 15th, 2015, leaving the aisle!

The reconfiguration of the store into 60% of its former space on one level has also brought about a complete remodeling, which is something I had not seen in a Sears in a very long time.

Interesting cross-merchandising of Craftsman tools and apparel here.

If mall anchor stores have a future, the future is much smaller than what we see today. In this post, we visit the downsized Sears store at the Danbury Fair Mall in Danbury, CT. Sears opened with the mall in 1986 and was built with 177,000 sq. ft.. In 2014, Sears agreed to downsize its store to 107,000 sq. ft. to allow for Irish retailer Primark to move into the vacated space. The resulting configuration is very interesting and provides a glimpse into a smart reconfiguration of retail space which we probably will see more of in the future.

The original Sears store sat on 2 levels with exterior entrances from 3 sides (South, West and North). The store also had entrances on each level of the mall. The reconfiguration has given most of the upper level to Primark with Sears maintaining only its Merchandise Pick-up on the upper level; the main store exists all on the lower level, and most departments have been downsized.

Adding whimsy to the interior of the cabinets we'll be hanging. I'm painting them myself and then we will hang them and add doors later.

This is the same Burger King that I took a picture of at Family Dollar. As you can see, it's been renovated to the newest style of BK's design, which is funny because this same restaurant remodeled less than 10 years ago.

Stokesay Castle is a fabulous 13th century stone manor house with a stunning yellow and black half-timbered 17th century gatehouse. It was built by a very wealthy wool merchant, Laurence of Ludlow, between 1285 and 1291 after Edward I’s conquest of Wales in 1284. Laurence was wealthy enough to lend money to Edward I, as well as many of the great lords of the Welsh borderlands. He drowned when his ship transporting wool to Flanders sank in a storm in 1294 but his descendants remained lords of the manor at Stokesay until 1498.

The Great Hall is the earliest part of the castle, with its oak roof and staircase dating to its original construction in the 1280s, making it one of the oldest such structures surviving in Britain. The fabulous gatehouse was added in 1640-41 just before the Civil War when it was in the ownership of William Craven, a Royalist. The castle surrendered peacefully in 1645 and was left largely intact except for the curtain wall which was demolished.

William Craven recovered all his estates after Charles II’s restoration in 1660 but he did not return to Stokesay. It was occupied by tenant farmers, the Baldwyn family, who remodelled the Solar (living room) in the 1660s with wood panelling and the elaborately carved wooden fireplace overmantle which was originally brightly painted. The Baldwyns left in the early 18th century and subsequent tenants let the buildings deteriorate, the Solar, for example, being used as a granary. In 1869 John Derby Allcroft, a successful London glove manufacturer, bought the estate, and began an extensive and unusually sympathetic programme of repairs which restored the main structure of the castle to its original state.

The only way to get from the accessible tree to the one with the nest with a mouthful of leaves to remodel was to jump.

You may do a kitchen remodel in Merrillville at any time, and you will find that there are a number of people who will enjoy helping you build a new kitchen that your family will fall in love with every day.
