I don't often like remodels (as they take away uniqueness), but this one was needed.

Remodel, Week 7
After what I dubbed “not much progress” occurred over weeks five and six of its remodel, the Hernando Walmart has stepped it up for week seven! One of many accomplishments since my last update is the replacement of the exterior signage (all minus the big Walmart sign itself). The left photo shows the home and pharmacy sign removed, and the right, installed anew, along with a new outdoor living sign to boot (you can see the original, which was placed slightly lower, here).

This is another photo from grand reopening day, May 23, 2018. As can be seen here, the overhead bakery sign was moved to the side wall. Looks like there were more of those free samples on top of that corner case, but (unfortunately!) I missed seeing those while in the store.
The music samples for this week are not to be missed though:
Weezer (Weezer (Teal Album)) - Billie Jean
ZZ Top (Afterburner) - Stages
Sting (The Dream of the Blue Turtles) - If You Love Somebody Set Them Free
Flyleaf (Flyleaf) - Breathe Today
Papa Roach (Infest) - Binge
Rodney Crowell (TEXAS) - Deep in the Heart of Uncertain Texas (f. Ronnie Dunn, Willie Nelson & Lee Ann Womack)
Godsmack (The Other Side) - Keep Away
Paul McCartney (Tripping the Live Fantastic (CD1)) - Got to Get You Into My Life
Nazareth (Hair of the Dog) - Hair of the Dog
Orleans (Work at Home with Orleans) - Dancing in the Moonlight
Papa Roach (F.E.A.R) - Gravity
The Raconteurs (Consolers of the Lonely) - Attention
Styx (Cornerstone) - Never Say Never
U2 (The Joshua Tree) - Bullet the Blue Sky
The Police (Flexible Strategies) - Flexible Strategies
Lindsey Buckingham (Gift of Screws) - Great Day
Blackfield (Blackfield V) - Salt Water
The Wallflowers (Bringing Down the Horse) - God Don't Make Lonely Girls

Sears at the Temecula Promenade is remodeling their store since they have consolidated to the second floor with Round 1 Bowling coming to the mall in the first floor of the Sears store; we'll see how that works out for them...
Some “current events” news now – as first revealed to the world by l_dawg2000, the freezer case replacement currently taking place at Superlo Foods Southaven is evidently just a harbinger of bigger things to come: a full-scale remodel of the whole store! This certainly came as a surprise to the both of us, and I’m very glad l_dawg took the time to study this floor plan posted along the front end of the store and notice the tiny note reading “Remove tin from all walls – demo existing wall finishes – provide new décor,” or else we would’ve been caught totally off-guard just walking in one day to see all the old Schnucks décor suddenly removed and replaced!
On that note – yes, sadly, the old Schnucks décor appears to be not long for the world at this point :( Your opinions on the décor aside (if you haven’t seen it, it’s pretty divisive – “tin” is definitely a good way to describe the entire package, lol!), it’s still going to be a shame to see it removed, 1) because with recent improvements Superlo has been taking care of at this location, it was looking better than ever, and 2) because this is the very last example of 100% intact Schnucks décor in the Mid-South, and its removal will erase away yet another element of local supermarket history. (I say “100% intact” because the Cordova Farmers Market also kept some old Schnucks décor up, but they’ve substantially altered its appearance.)
Right now we’re not sure when exactly the décor swap is set to begin; could be as soon as the freezer cases are done (which seems to be right about now – they looked to be wrapping up this past weekend), as soon as remodel crews are done over at Orange Mound (new Superlo set to open next month – more on that here), or perhaps as late as January, assuming Superlo doesn’t want to employ the remodel crew over the holiday season – who knows. No matter the start or end dates, I know the two of us will definitely do our best to stay on top of the situation, and of course I’ll be sure to bring y’all a post-remodel set and some point in the future (as well as one final pre-remodel set, too).
Concerning the décor Superlo will be remodeling to… I didn’t quite think Superlo would ever remodel this place, or in fact that they bothered to remodel most of their stores at all, but upon further research it seems they’ve actually been making an effort to introduce a common décor package to a number of their stores. I’ve got conflicted feelings on this: obviously, this is an admirable effort, one I can certainly appreciate the value of. But the décor itself – yikes! Elements of it are good (in fact, “yikes” is likely too harsh), but there’s one major, central thing that’s just not right at all… I’ll spare y’all for now, seeing as how we still can’t say for sure this is what the Southaven store will receive, but here’s a quote from l_dawg that should serve as an indication of the stuff: “never *ever* thought I'd say this, but it would seem the Southaven store might soon be - downgrading - from Corrugation Abomination XD How is that even possible!??” Consider yourself warned… XD

Remodel, Week 8
Back in town for the weekend, and it's never felt so good, haha! Full disclosure: I'm an (introverted) only child who's now a college freshman. So, it's a little hard on all of us.
BUT I'm also excited to be home because so much has gone on retail-wise in the ongoing projects I've been documenting! Today is dedicated mostly to the Hernando Walmart remodel, but there's a couple other updates thrown in as well. Seen here, from last week, is the vision center, which has become all-black on the inside to match the incoming black décor 2.0. Not pictured is the new, also black vision center desk, which I saw today.

Stopped into my local Kmart to grab some lunch yesterday and I found that it was closed. My first thoughts were it closed permanently, but as you can see it is getting a remodel.
Between this and the newly added Moneyhub, I feel my local Kmart must be doing rather well.
I have a suspicion that this might become a Nathan's Famous similar to how Williamsport added one, but I could very well be wrong.

Walmart #1537 1270 York Rd Gettysburg, PA. This store is set to start a remodel tomorrow 8-15! I talked to a friend who works here and they told me this will STAY a Non-Supercenter but it will add more food and frozen/dairy. He says it will look like the Westminster, MD store now that they completed their recent remodel. By now most people know that Walmart pulled it's plains to build a new Supercenter in town after finally getting Township approval after at least 10 years of planning. It will be interesting to see what Walmart will do with this remodel here. I will be stopping by this location to keep an eye on the progress as I do live near by.
At least it isn't eyebrowed.

Quinne: Oh good....I need your help!
Me: With what?
Quinne: The remodel. Now that you are done paying attention to Rylee you should have time for me again.
Me: I'm not done with her.
Quinne: Yea yea. Anyway it's time to get the candy and desserts in here.
Me: Ok, let's get started.
Quinne: Don't forget I'm in charge here.
Me: Don't forget not to push your luck.
Though no excuse but if I don't get back to your comments or fav pictures that I know I'd love this is why. The carpets have been torn up, the cabinets to be taken down, walls are painted, and furniture to be replaced or updated. I had a week of vacation off and now have to return to work so when I come home I and my husband will probably be doing some work.

WEEK 22 – Clarksdale Kroger Closing, Set I
Inside the store, as you'd expect with a Kroger greenhouse, in the front right corner we find the produce department, complete with those signature curved walls. What you may not have expected, however, is the décor: yes, this store was remodeled sometime fairly recently, to the 2012/bountiful package.
It's strange to try and analyze this decision, because a lot of the facts seem to contradict each other; for instance, you would think that the store must have been doing well enough to warrant this remodel, but at the same time, clearly it wasn't doing as well as Kroger would have liked for it to be targeted for closure. Seems like in that case, it would have made more sense simply to leave the store as-is without spending all the capital necessary to upgrade it only five or so years out from closing it...

Yup, the Harborcreek Walmart is remodeling to the brand new Black Decor 2.0, they started 2 days ago and they are the 2nd Walmart in Erie to remodel. The first one is Downs Drive near Peach Street in Summit Township. They should finish around August or so but they are already getting some work done! This Walmart store opened in 2004 to serve the Harborcreek area, built on former farm land. In 2010 or 2011 they remodeled the Walmart like most did to the 2011 era of Walmart.

Remodel, Week 7
Remember the remodel frustration I mentioned earlier? Well, here's a conglomerate of pics illustrating it. The reset in grocery started back in mid-July and (thankfully) seems to be over now. A whole bunch of items shifted from their aisles to new ones, multiple others moved around on the aisles they were already on, and several more were simply put on closeout altogether, likely not to be carried again. Now customers get to relearn where everything is located. Hooray! (extreme sarcasm...)

Big Lots FINALLY reopened its Olean store after a nearly 6-month long remodel....
The store actually shrunk a bit a bit and honestly left me a little disappointed with their new product selection. The store cut back many departments back to move furniture from its prior alcove space into the store itself. Furniture has been expanded to cover at least 1/3 of the sales floor.
Big Lots stupidly cut toys back from 4-5 aisles before to 1 and 1/2 now. Electronics (taking an aisle) is now just the basic headphone and cellphone accessories. I don't recall seeing any movies or video games. Home Office (previously two aisles) supplies looked to have either been cut entirely or share space with the electronics in that one aisle by offering basic pens and pencils.
This location previously sold at least an aisle's worth of hosiery and at least a 1/2 aisle for diy and auto care products. Those departments looked to have been removed entirely.

Remodel, Week 24
In this view, you can see the (padlocked) entrance doors to the fresh island construction area, as well as a couple of the newest refrigerated cases, with the older frozen foods bulk units beyond that. You’ll note that only the bottom halves of the remodel walls here have been made of plywood; the tops are plastic sheeting.
