Yes, I'm pulling up the original hardwood floors. Some people are giving me a hard time about this. I love old, original floors, too, and it was a tough decision, but it's one I don't regret making - 1) the floors in the dining room are in worse condition than this - unsalvagable, really - so the good floorboards from here were saved to replace ones in the dining room later on. 2) because I knocked down a wall, I'd have to try and match these floorboards where that wall was - which would be pretty much impossible not only because of the stain color, but because of the size of the boards themselves.
Yes, of course I'm really far behind uploading my regular photos, but friends and family members have been wanting to see the remodel progress, so bear with me while I post some "boring" photos!

This is a picture of the new Behr, "Oat Cake" paint in the dining room. It seems a lot more "peachier" than I thought it would be.....
The original wall color can be seen below the chair rails. I plan to paint that a darker, contrasting color.
Since the last photos, the counters have been added (in addition to some electrical, plumbing and detail work). We're thrilled with the results so far and can see the completion of the project coming up!
About all that's left here is the backsplash in the kitchen.

Another area where it looks like an eight year old cut the drywall. This gap is about 9 inches long and as much as an inch wide. No amount of plaster will make this right.
I gave the Fixit Team contractors hell for this. This is terrible work, even for California, where shoddy remodeling work is the norm.
I do my own drywall now. No more "professionals" being paid to do work like this.

The sink went this week. We had to wait for the countertop blemish problem to clear up. It looks good, nice and clean. To the left of the faucet is the air gap for the dishwasher. We also had our neighbor, and "old school" tile guy stop by to measure and order our backsplash for us. It might take 8 weeks or so for that to arrive.

Our project began with a kitchen remodel...that grew to den remodel, floors, and master bath....just because we need some left over granite.
The entire process began in the 2nd week of January and finished in May.
Remodeling my attic really stresses. In the same moment it is great fun of course, too. I love my old house!

We performed a studs-up gut rehab and remodel on this Pilsen neighborhood apartment. We demolished the old crumbling plaster, replaced the old, plumbing lines with new copper, and updated most of the electrical wiring. Then we installed new drywall throughout. We added an extra bedroom closet, a pantry, brand new bathroom, and modern kitchen. We decided to keep most of the original millwork, to maintain the apartment's charm.
