Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw: On February 1, 2026 at 5:46 AM, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded for a contents fire located in a first floor unit of a 2 story garden style apartment. The blaze was quickly extinguished by 28 firefighters in 19 minutes. A 52M was located in the unit and transported to a local hospital in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries. Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety responded for structural assessment. Red Cross will be assisting the displaced occupant(s) due to the uninhabitable condition of the dwelling. Cause of fire is unknown. No injuries to LAFD members.

Jenny Block wrote an incredibly honest, interesting book called Open: Love, Sex, and Life in an Open Marriage. She lives in North Dallas and has a husband, girlfriend, daughter, and thriving career as a writer.
I read a preview copy of the book while in Marfa last week and just the sight of the cover sparked some fascinating conversations in the car between Tanya, Erica, Andrea, and me. The whole concept of open marriage usually causes some sort of reaction in people, whether fascination or judgment, curiosity or condemnation. Personally, I alternate between "ick" and "interesting."

On the front porch at 601 Market St., Laredo, TX, about 1930. The porch swing had not been hung yet. She (my ggmother), was a pretty woman even in old age. She had married three times, to LeValle, then Quick, lastly a McKenzie, who either died or abandoned her. John A. Quick fathered all her surviving children.
